Eddie joined in for Hunger Strike and also contributed backup vocals for a few tracks, but Chris was officially the singer for Temple. Eddie had come in to Seattle from California as the new singer for what would become Pearl Jam (with rhythm guitarist Stone Gossard and bass player Jeff Ament, who were trying to put together a new band after Mother Love Bone fell apart following singer Andy Wood's death.) At the same time: Chris, Stone and Jeff... plus PJ's Mike McCready on guitar and SG drummer Matt Cameron, were rehearsing for Temple as their cathartic Andy tribute album. Eddie was at the studio waiting while the others were working on Temple. During Hunger Strike he saw Chris trying to do the 'going hungry' section, which jumps an octave, up and down/back and forth. Eddie stepped up to the mic to assist. Chris loved it, and invited him to record that track with them and do backup on a few others. It was Eddie's first recording. Chris became his mentor and close friend. PS - Chris thought this would be a throwaway track. It's just one verse, performed twice with different singers, but it became the big Temple hit, along with Say Hello to Heaven.

Chris did write it as a throwaway track, so the album would have 10 songs because he had a superstition about uneven numbers. He said it took about 15 minutes to write.

Great album...period

Hunger Strike was the first track released by temple of the dog and was the most successful. Soon after Eddy Vedder joined Pearl Jam and recorded "Ten" one of the greatest grunge albums ever made. BTW.....song is about humanity not losing yourself in gaining sucesss or money(paraphasing Chris Cornell) Rory happy you enjoyed it😁

@@a7n7t7o7n7y Yes...i know what u mean but. All the bands that came out circa Nirvana were a grunge movement. Pearl Jam was in this movement of grunge bands. Pearl Jam in the end is a Rock band w/ties of grunge.😎

Eddie was playing with the Pearl Jam guys at this time, though I’m not sure they were even Pearl Jam yet. May have still been Mookie Blaylock.

Mate you’ve got to check more Pearl Jam. Mike Mccready was the lead guitarist on temple of the dog. Remember the solos from reach down and say hello to heaven? That’s him. He’s what sets Pearl Jam apart from their contemporary bands - a solid blues rock soloist they got in mc cready. Stone the other rhythm & sometimes lead guitarist was no joke either. I put stone and Mike on top 10 rhythm & lead guitar partnerships in all rock n roll

Elderly woman behind the counter by Pearl Jam Mother Love Bone became Pearl Jam with Eddie Vedder after they lost Andrew the The lead singer of Mother Love Bone… In between Chris did the vocals on Temple of the dog, and Eddie joined during that time. I believe….Chris continued Soundgarden Pearl Jam became what it is

I read that Chris was struggling to record this in the studio and Eddie came in there and helped him through it. Apparently they totally clicked while recording it. Is it true, idk.

Chris was having a tough time jumping an octave, back and forth, singing 'going hungry.' He clearly *can* sing the low part, as we hear in the first verse.

@C Summers Could be about both Chris and Eddie's brother. But "Comes Then Goes" most definitely seems to be specifically about losing Chris and how life circumstances (let's call them that) had created distance within their relationship
