@RS - 04MR 838978 McClure PS it was their souls and yes they were probably scared of Valak. Remember when Sister Oana keeps talking to Irene? It always gets cut off because they are not allowed to tell Irene what kind of Inhumane spirit (Valak) lives there. And also in Conjuring 2, Valak used Bill's soul as a pawn but Bill was also not allowed to tell the Warrens so he instead gave them hints and Sister Oana was already giving hints to Irene. She just shook it off believing the ground is still holy

That's what made the movie so scary to me. They were alone in the Abbey the entire time. She thought she was talking to nuns but all of the nuns had been dead way before they arrived. The Father was also by himself the entire time.

Fun Fact about what happened to me when I watched the teaser trailer of the nun, I went from BDE mode to being so cold and in so much internal pain that I felt like my chest was being ripped opened and my ribs were being forced to break open from my sternum. Now my I am shaking and my anxiety and fear is sky high like I actually feel like Valak is in nun form and is toying with my sanity and soul.

I think the sisters are all dead before they even arrive. Don’t remember if she’s actually speaking to their spirits or if it’s an illusion created by the demon. I’m guessing it’s the latter but I can’t say for sure.

I think the sister were an illusion. To be honest I doubted their existence from the start since Frenchie said that the locals have agreed that the castle is abandoned. Frenchie also said it's empty, so how come all these people say it's empty and somehow two holy people found nuns inside. Never made me feel right, seemed off. Also the Sister Irene said she has visions
