Good question... Here are my initial thoughts: The Pit would be bad. Whisper Cache and Helltide Chests drop targeted Gear but not in large amounts. NM Dungeon 41+ would be strong contender for multitasking it. Uber versions of Tier 1 boss ladder would be good if they would drop xTimes summoning items. And obviously Duriel/Andariel 500+ runs for endless uber farming.

Nightmare Dungeon/Helltide. Do your whispers as well, you get a ton of XP, as well as really good loot, and money.

So, did they change the levels to 1-30, 31-60, 61+ for the 3 different tiers of materials?

And how does resetting the Masterwork progress work? Do you start over on lvl 0 masterwork or within the last 4 lvls (upgrades stages)?

So I am running the pit right now and tier 26 isn't dropping ingoloth. Was this changed? Edit: Just got to tier 30 and the pit UI says Ingoloth, so it looks like they did change it.

My experience with PTR was Neathiron and very small amounts of Ingoliths

so what if you get a stat u want on the 2nd temper and u dont wanna reroll, does that mean u cant masterwork the item, since ull risk losing the stat u dont wanna lose? tempered an item twice now and got a 43.5 vuln dmg roll, i dont really wanna lose that, but im at 2/3 tempers now, so cant masterwork the item

Rerolls are per category. If I roll a utility temper and a resource temper, I have my two chosen categories. At this point, I can reroll any of those two a total of 5 times combined.

if you reset masterwork at rank 12 does that take you to rank 8 or drop you to rank 1 as an example?

Handful of questions here so bare with me please... With tempering, you get two free rolls before it starts counting towards your 5 affix rerolls on a piece of gear correct? So 7 in total? So when leveling and gear being replaced, I dont need to be stingy? Just hope I get something useful in the 2 free rolls? After the 2, it will cost mats and start the 5 counter? With tempering, if I got a low value rolled affix, and I try rerolling it but dont get a higher value one, can I keep what I currently have on the item or am I forced to choose one from the new options window I just rolled? First question: Yes, your first two ate the initial selection. It's free in terms of not using rerolls but it still costs materials. Second question: It does not work like enchanting, a reroll will be permanent and the only choice. This will trash your "BiS" attempts.

Great video! Question - when you say you can temper up to 5 times, is that that total and not per category? For example, if I try and apply an offensive temper like, say, 45% damage increase, and it takes me 5 times to finally get that roll of 45% damage increase, would I then be able to add a new category (e.g., utility) and temper that category for another five times? Or at that point would I not even be able to add a fifth and final affix because I already tempered my item 5 times to add a 4th affix? Thank you so much!

Yes I did. So, this is how it works. You have a total of 5 temper rerolls, BUT you get two “free” tempers, one in each of the two categories you select. This is good because you’ll never be in a situation where you are only able to affix 1 category (instead of two) because you exhausted all your rerolls. For example, let’s say you want to add damage to close. The first time you attempt to temper damage to close, it doesn’t count as a reroll. Then let’s say you exhaust all five of your rerolls trying to get damage to close, you will still have your second and final “free” temper to use on a second category of your choosing, thereby give you a total of five affixes for that item. However, in the scenario I described, whatever affix you get for the that second and final category will be your permanent affix because you only have five rerolls total, not five rerolls for each category.

@@Arhan28 that’s fair criticism and definitely possible. For what it’s worth, in my small sample size (10-12items) I’ve only bricked one. It was annoying though. I tried adding movement speed to my boots and got “mobility cooldown reduction” after five attempts. Now I’m searching for new boots.

Upgrading was fairly useless early-mid game anyway.

How do you reset masterworking

So until you hit wt 4 beat a lvl 45 nightmare dungeon to activate the pit quest which is beating a lvl 46 nightmare dungeon and entering the pit,? You then have to grind helltides and whispers to get materials just to enter the pit which you have to grind even more to get the materials you need for masterworking which only drop in the pit? So insteadof the previos upgrading system which let you upgrade stats on an item you are essentially level and material blocked from masterworking which besides tempering by 1 or 2 times and socketing gems is the only way to upgrade or add any stats ? Seems to me the pit could've been completely avoided by having those materials drop in all dungeons , helltides, and whispers. Besides having to hope for rng luck and wait for a masterwirkable drop, the old upgrading system was besides the cost of crafting was just fine. All that was needed was to add tempering and masterworking. Once an item was fully upgraded it could then be eligible for masterworking regardless of level pending you have the materials which could've been made to drop anywhere. I see no real need for the pit nor a reason for any crafting system to be level and material blocked for two thirds of the way to level one hundred.

I actually like that Diablo IV has an endgame specific gear system. Helps fill out the 100+ portion of the game instead of only duriel.

@@LambAndWolfGaming Let me rephrase. More end game is always good. In that I couldn't agree with you more. However, not being able to upgrade weapon or armor stats during the leveling process feels lackluster at best. There are a lot people who will never make it to the endgame content and will miss out on a whole crafting system. Although the new gear is easier to understand, legacy gear stats are still much better, previously upgraded through the old system. Yes you can add gems and temper the new gear, but overall stat enhancement is blocked until reaching and beating wt 4 nightmare 45 and 46 dungeons. On top of that there's the grinding of helltides or whispers just to get mats to enter the pit. Unless you're lucky enough to find a full set of uniques that suit your play style or build. Why not have the old style upgrading, tempering, and masterworking but have it accessible throughout the entire leveling process? Why have the pit mainly for masterworking materials when those materials could be made to drop anywhere? Each big main town could've had their own unique pit ending with an echo of mephisto , diablo, etc. I think the pit was a wasted opportunity that could've been implemented on a larger scale. Like randomly the giant worm that belches out demons in helltides could swallow you, and takes you to the first circle of hell where you have clear a random lord of hell's castle or something. So yes, more endgame is always good, but a level and material blocked crucial crafting system in a game where stats matter is just poor game dev design choice.

Masterworking is available after completing a Tier 46 NM Dungeon in World Tier 4 and completing runs of The Pit for the materials. By this point you should be in full ancestral. Sacred and Normal gear can only be tempered once.

Tried masterworking a 925 ancestral raiment armor piece. Took glass cannon from +1 base to just +1 but it turned blue. Anyone know why? I thought all of them had a base skill of +1 now. Since it showed no range in the tool tip.

Ahh gotcha so it won't go to + until it gains another 15% im guessing? Since it's 40% total right now from 3x 5% rolls and the 25% from the 4th? Assuming i understand the system correctly.. So does that mean ideally if i get all 4x 25% rolls on it + the 40% from the 8x 5% rolls. Best it would ever get is 140% increase? (And I'm assuming that is still only going to be +1skill gain overall?) Just want to see if i got the math right. Correct me if I'm wrong

Assuming you're at rank 4, you should be at 1.4, at rank 6 it'll be at 1.5, see if it becomes +2 at rank 7. If we're correct it'll rank up. Side note: 3x crit and rank 12 = +120% or 2.2x. +45% from regular rolls, +75% if all 3 crit same affix.

Correction: You get ingoliths after pit 30+ :D

As soon as you enter WT4 you'll get a priority quest to complete a Tier 46+ NM Dungeon. After that you'll need to do the Pit which need runeshards to enter. After collecting enough materials you will be able to masterwork.

You'll need to make it to endgame before being able to masterwork. Assuming you're brand new you'll need to 100% the story, unlock world tier 3 and 4 via capstone dungeons, run a Tier 46 Nightmare Dungeon, then go to cerrigar to run your first The Pit. You'll then be able to masterwork your gear.

Needed to watch this video as ingame the explanation is bs... why is masterworking so late in the game... with no paragon points in endgame like in D3 there is no reason to play after you hit lvl 100 except for gear optimisation... but even then, whats the point... vessel of hatred coming out in a few months or so, all the equip goes into the trash 😂 Im just happy after i finish the season bar and i quit until next season 😂
