Telescopes and Eclipses - Safe Solar Viewing
How can you safely watch a solar eclipse with a telescope? We cover that in this video. Probably the most important thing is knowing how to inspect your solar filter to see if it is safe to use. It is the kind of thing that everyone talks about as if you would automatically know what to look for. My old solar filter finally went bad, so I can show you exactly what it looks like when a solar filter is no longer safe to use.
I'll also talk briefly about solar wedges (a.k.a. Herschel wedges) for solar viewing. The theme throughout the video is safe solar viewing and what equipment is appropriate for each type and stage of solar eclipse.

I don’t have a solar filter, so I’m sacrificing my phones camera for this. Will update if I got good footage lol
my telescope has a holder for my phone so I can take a picture on my phone but I don’t have a solar filter could I still do it

Not unless you have a good enough solar filter place on the front of the telescope. Otherwise the suns rays will burn right thru your camera lens.
How can i take photographs of the eclipse? I bought an eclipsmart 102mm solar filter, is that enough?
If I don’t have a filter what could I use for my telescope??

There are diy filters you can make, but it’s best not to risk it. Looking at the sun through a telescope without a proper filter can blind you almost instantly

Good question. There are quite a few. I like telescopes.net because they have really good intermediate and advanced equipment. Orion Telescopes (telescope.com) is better known for beginner to intermediate equipment and is often a little more budget friendly. However, I believe both sites have a section for USED gear.
