    Good video and explanation. I made the YT video about the battery mod. It was a bandaid. But, I'm glad to see another option. I will most definitely try it! I have played around with the pills, but never for arm sweep. Thanks for sharing.

    that's some good insight. ill try it on my 410.3. pushing the front arms forward also increase your wheels base, hence moved the center of gravity back a little as well.

    Hey! Wow! In the start I did not find any others with the same problem or issues when searching the net. (Mid 2015) but when going trough my very few videos on YT, I got linked to your video. And it is as you described, my Tekno Truck do hard noise dives on every jump. Even with or without throttle to compensate as we do to with buggies, right? So, I built the truck as spec setup and tested. Nosedive, then did the usual thing, as you said by adjusting oil weights and springs as this is 'usually' the culprit. No luck, then went in to the balance of the truck and everything was ok. I even moved battery back by removing tray and just taping battery the the chassis. No luck. I even though the new body was causing lift, so that got drilled like a swiss cheese lol. No luck. Then contacting Tekno. That had some ideas. But as far I remember (almost 3 years ago) that did not help either. I think they really did not test the truck enough before went for the Tekno 410 v.1.0 at all. Anyway, seeing your video is making this hopeful again. But honestly should be explained better by Tekno. That aside, truck is awesome. If I can get it to work. With your inputs I think this is possible! Here is my short video of my issues on my channel, made for Tekno to review back in August 2015: kzread.info/dash/bejne/h3Z1qcZ9m67Udbg.html Thumbs up and subbed! Thank you!

  • @doctormosfet

    @doctormosfet

    2wd cars typically have 25deg or 30deg of kick up. 4wd cars have a similar amount, although the execution may be different - rather than bending the chassis nose, it may be done at the inner hinge pin mounts.

    My Tekin Pro4 seized up, due to the rotor falling apart. That's actually the second time that happened. It seized up once, then I bought a replacement rotor, then it seized up again. The motor in there now is my backup motor, a Turnigy Trackstar 550, I think a 4.5T motor, with a 13T pinion. I'm not too picky about motors, so for me, this motor is great, especially considering how it's so much cheaper than the big name brand motors.

    Old video and not really the topic covered but if someone was setting up a new SCT (or any new RC car) and wanted reliable, long-term, set-it-and-forget-it performance, what electronics would you recommend? Is there a Toyota equivalent in the world of RC electronics? Motor, ESC, batteries, charger, servo, transmitter; all of it.

  • @doctormosfet

    @doctormosfet

    Жыл бұрын

    My favorite servos are made by Hitec. I have found them to be very reliable. Although I use a Tekin RX8 in my SCT and EB48SL, generally Tekin does not have the reliability record of others (at least in my experience with their motors, and I've had one of their ESCs go bad). Hobbywing makes a good ESC for this application, but I can't speak to its reliability. For the motor, a lot of times I just throw a Turnigy motor in there because they're so cheap, and I haven't had one go bad on me. Transmitter...I'm a Sanwa/Airtronics guy. I still use the same Super Exzes Plus I've had for over 10 years.

  • @backbayhound563

    @backbayhound563

    @@doctormosfet Thanks for that. Hitec 7950 comes up a lot in forum posts. Savox is popular in local shops. Futaba used to sell a kit that included transmitter, receiver, servo, and ESC which was nice for its all-in-one simplicity. That was about the time vintage RC was new. It seems like there was a move to a la carte electronics at some point with a ton of new options and names.

    Have you had any issues with the rear being loose on power? I know that's the other big issue with this truck. For me indoor on clay coming out of a long straight and then in summer on outdoor loose dirt going in and coming out of a straight into a sweeper. Tried many spring setups. Still have issues.

  • @doctormosfet

    @doctormosfet

    7 жыл бұрын

    I have not had issues with the rear being loose on power. My setup is mostly stock, with some change in the front pivot blocks and a thicker shock oil (40wt all around), and that's about it. If you find that, on your particular surface, your truck is loose on power, then it could be for two reasons. The first is that your rear suspension could be too stiff (springs, oil, etc.). The second is that you could be running too much rear camber gain (i.e., rear camber links too short). As you apply power, weight transfers to the rear and the car squats down. This causes the wheels to camber inward. With more camber gain, this effect is pronounced and you end up with less rear tire contact patch with the track surface on power. If you lengthen the rear camber links (less camber gain), you'll reduce this effect and the truck will have more rear grip on power. There are other things you can fiddle with (anti-squat, downtravel limiters, etc.), but camber gain is the first thing to look at with this problem you're having. Go back to a completely stock setup (this should be your baseline) and see how it feels. Then lengthen the rear camber links and see how it feels again.

  • @doctormosfet

    @doctormosfet

    7 жыл бұрын

    I should add that, if the suspension is stiffer, and/or if you have more anti-squat, then the rear will squat less on power and you can run a shorter camber link for the same amount of forward bite. However, if the suspension is too stiff, then the total acceleration force applied to the tires will exceed the grip limit, whereas a softer suspension will absorb some of that force. You want to run the suspension at a stiffness that does not exceed the grip limit of your tires (by transferring too much force to the tires).

    does addin more front kick up help this

  • @doctormosfet

    @doctormosfet

    8 жыл бұрын

    I'm not sure. I think adding kick up will allow the front arms to compress more on the jump face, increasing the chance that the nose will drag. So you may end up wanting less kick up.

  • @fondfarewell2
    @fondfarewell28 жыл бұрын

    I thought that having a stiffer rear spring would help from nose diving, preventing the rear from slapping when hitting a jump and bucking the rear up while coming off the jump?

  • @doctormosfet

    @doctormosfet

    8 жыл бұрын

    Yes, that can happen as well. I noticed more wear at the front of the chassis than the rear, though, so in this case I think it was the front that was dragging.

    This is where I was going with my question above. Stiffer springs helped the nose dive for me by reducing the rear chassis slap but the trade off is less rear traction on power. I've tried everything and still can't get it.

    Could you give me your opinion on the following: can a SCT, more specifically the 410.3, be controlled mid-air during a big jump, so as to cause radical changes in the car pitch, as is possible with a buggy? In SCT videos I've watched, most of the jump physics seem to be determined during the approach and launch, with very limited control available after that, whereas a buggy driver is able to completely control the flight (radical mid-air pitch changes, flips, backflips, etc) using throttle control. Can you do that with a properly tuned SCT? To the same extent? Thanks! Bonus points if you can point me to a SCT410 video demonstrating the aforementioned ability!

  • @doctormosfet

    @doctormosfet

    5 жыл бұрын

    You can, yes. SCT just has larger mass and therefore more polar moment of inertia, so it will take more torque to achieve the same effect. This is actually rather necessary with trucks like the SCT 410.3 that tend to nose dive off of jumps due to the nose hitting the jump face. You can try looking at some of my racing videos with this truck and maybe you'll see some mid-air adjustment there. I assure you, though, it is very possible, and I've seen plenty of it on tracks with large jumps.
