For some reason it feels so weird to see Tekken Tag Tournament with Tekken 3's graphics instead of the PlayStation 2 version with much better graphics. Kinda cool.

It also would’ve been cool if they included this version of the game in Tekken 5’s Arcade History mode.

I believe the reason they didn't was probably because around that time, the PS2 version would've still been on store shelves, and then there'd be no real incentive to buy that if Tekken 5 had this version. Either that or space limitations.

No, the board that the arcade version ran on was more powerful than PS1, they would've had to greatly downscale the visuals to get this running on that console. Although in my opinion, I think TTT's arcade version looks way worse in comparison to Tekken 3's arcade version.

But as you can see, it only shows 2 fighters at the same time on the screen, I don't know if the PS1's RAM can hold 4 fighters at the same time, but at least it wouldn't need more power than the original Tekken 3 needed to render them.

The difference between Arcade and Console game: - The Stages have different soundtrack arrangement. - KO screams is heard only 1 time on Perfect/KO screen, while in console KO screams is heard 3 times on Perfect/KO screen. - Characters designs are different.

Better yet, the entire soundtrack of the arcade version is just PCM samples. There's no Redbook audio, just a bunch of high quality samples that took up lots of space on the memory chips.

Also, Unknown is unlockable in the console and she’s the only character who has FMV ending while in arcade, she is unplayable.

4:38 - That transition with the thunder sound effect still playing over the loading screen, then straight into Lei's china stage at night is pretty darn cool.

I remember at 9 years old I went to Disney World and they had this game in one of the arcades there. This was my first exposure to Tag 1 and around my birthday I got my very first PS2 and Tag 1 was my very first l game and I was blown away with the graphics for the home version. This game will be in my memories forever.

There should be screen/color test menu that allows the screen type to be changed between non-interlaced and interlaced. The interlaced mode actually has a higher screen resolution.

I played and beat this arcade during one of my first trips to Malta back in 2005.the hotel was so cool as it also had metal slug, spin master and wonderboy. after placing my name in the tekken tag hall of fame i came back a year later to the same hotel and my name was still in the rankings! moved drastically down but i was really impressed as it must of never been turned off. my team was Bryan Fury/Ogre, for their quick paced and unblockable attacks.

Tekken 3 on steroids :D It is definitely a must play!

Tekken Tag 1 arcade version is my very favourite Tekken game ever.

Tekken 3 had the best graphical and textures engine for its classic first games of the franchise ever made. Glad that Takken Tag used the same visual and made better for the fighters of Tekken 1 and 2.

There was this go-kart place in my city and they had an arcade. That is where I first played this gem! I have a Ps2 copy as well that I enjoy playing from time to time. This game is fun as hell.

They need to have 4th Main Tekken Installment Sequel on The Canonical Storyline already instead of this

This game was the very first game I got to play as a little kid in the early 2000s and I never thought the arcade version had the graphics from Tekken 3. It made me wonder now that the game was gonna be on PS1 originally before the PS2 was on its way but since it ended up on PS2, I'm glad because the game managed to both look and sound better than the arcade version and back then, it wasn't common for games to look better in consoles than in arcades.

​@@chris-om6bqIt ran well enough. There were very minor stuttering, but it was there. Which means doubling the amount of fighters while keeping it graphically similar to Tekken 3 would be impossible. Harada said as much, the game wouldn't run at smooth 60fps. Tekken 3 struggled with that. It was certainly at the limits of hardware.

I live in the Philippines and whenever me and my family go to this mall in Ormoc called Robinsons, i would always ask my parents to play in the arcade, and then i would always play this game and nothing else in there

Honestly I prefer the music better in the arcade over the console version while I like the graphics more in the console version more

I like the Tekken 3 models 100x more than the PS1 Tag 1 models so I prefer the way this version looks

Due to lack of RAM, this could not come out of ps1

Yup, to run this game, you'd need at least 6 or 8mb of ram to hold all of the characters and stages's textures

it looks like a overclocked ps1 and has large sprites like maybe 5-10 % better than ps1

I use to dominate the local mall at this game but only after having it for ps2 for a bit. I’d use Eddy and Hwoarang

This is the arcade version of TTT. TTT was release for the PS2 not PS1.

Quite difficult, because there's a reason it took a lot of time to port Tekken 3 from arcade to PS1. Namco's System 12 is essentially an overclocked PS1, and the arcade versions of Tekken 3 and TTT have rendered backgrounds. Converting them into pre-rendered images and doing black magic to squeeze 4 characters onto both the CPU and the limited 2MB of RAM will not be easy.

There would be no point, because Tekken 3 was a major hardware pusher. Not just in the moves department, either. Besides, Tag Tournament was just fine on PS2.

Ps1 couldn't have handled it. Too little memory to fit all scenarios of a battle without loadings.

@Dragunov I recently did some more research and found out tag 1 was essentially a upgrade kit for tekken 3 (Mainly just adding extra memory to support the tag mechanic) think of it like a mod for Tekken 3. Again it is still almost 5 years behind the ps2

I Obviously agree,this one looks like its based on the tekken 3 engine from the graphics to the stages but with new mechanics and characters,dont get me wrong,i LOVE the tekken 3 asthetic,but i love how unique the ps2 ver. is,even tho they should have added an option to switch between OSTs like in the older games since some of the arcade tracks are better than their PS2 Counterparts imo :)
