If you look up artwork, Ken's hair looks a lot better. I have no idea WTF happened in game. Same thing with Akuma's.

For sure… I think the games anime style art direction really messed it up by making hair quite solid. So Kens hair got spiked blocks of hair instead of the flowing hair it needed to be

Heard a translation from Knee that said Tekken 7 Hwoarang is very different from Tekken 8 Hwoarang. Your video so far was the only one that told me why. Much appreciated

I love playing Hwoarang in a hit and run play style since he has some of the best whiff punishment in the game to punish keepout and obviously a tremendous offense against turtling

Hwoarang, the character many will insist is hyper broken, but never actually is. From what I've seen, Hwoarang really gets messed up by good movement in this game.

​@@azuresaiyan9005 For Hwoarang alone, there are setups that Tekken 7's movement didn't let you avoid, but 8's movement does. Side stepping in particularly is better in this game

Hwo is dope as f good choice 👌. If you are creative and can switch on the fly you will be a nightmare to play against.

miss you Baek, Hwoarang has now many of your moves.

The best way to beat him is to learn him, then you'll realize how bad most Hwoarangs are.

These videos are super helpful, thank you. I'm a noob and I still have a hard time dealing with King and Hwoarang (and also Paul).

adding a little popup of the frame info (example how punishable double claymore is now) would be helpful to more experienced players and wouldn't take away from the new players watching this. nice vid

When balance changes tweak the frames, video will go out of date faster

Great guide, been waiting for something like this since Tekken 8 dropped. I've always loved this character, and the new mechanics helped shore up some of the difficulty he had safely approaching, and along with chip damage from heat as mentioned in the video, it really makes him feel like an aggressive monster. I'll surely return to this video to refresh my memory with some of the moves that got swapped around.

Watching these guides make me want to try out the character showcased great job

Also has a complete throw game and a throw that ground breaks. Trying to learn to mix in some throws with his pressure game. With armored, (practically) homing, advancing mids from both flamingo stances (b+ whichever foot is flamingo you are in), Left/Right Thunderbolt, you can pretty much condition an opponent to not duck or sidestep or interrupt.

I've always liked the character, but in this game he's SO fun to play

hwo has always given me trouble so that's the reason why i'm gonna try to main him this time around

Remember how Tekken 8 was supposed to be Hworangs game? So it turns out that wasn't the case...but he's fun to play and his default outfit is great.

This was a nice guide and overview. He has some other new moves as well that weren't covered here, the video K-Wiss made with Dash Fight is also a good overview that's a little more in-depth. Also I don't think double claymore is hit confirmable. You either commit, cancel the first hit, or do only the first hit. It's not like a Mishima 1,1,2 or something.

It's not hit confirmable but you can confirm after absorbing an attack.

He's been one of my favorites since his debut. I'm glad he looks like his old self again in T8 after that odd design they had for him in T7.

I would also say Alisa is one of the strongest in heat because her moves chip so much.

Imo they made backlash easier to punish on whiff. Characters like Steve will struggle but most of the cast can while standing launch it easily.

With backdashes nerfed hwo is so much more consistent to play now, I think he’ll be a manace in years to come as long as they don’t nerf his heat stuff

The glow up is insane

You gotta learn his stance flow off of various strings. He switches stances alot and so you have to practice every move in his arsenal. This is true, he is not a beginners character. Beginners will mash his kicks but without knowing his more intricate moves, they will hit a wall.

No mods, but if you can avoid FSR upscaling. Even DLSS quality looks better I think. Best option is TSR but it's quite intensive.

It doesn't launch anymore. You used to get a full combo off Backlash in Tekken 7.

Combo strings in video looks like he doesn't have many moves

Nice video. Just a tip from someone that speaks a bit of Korean and married to a Korean wife:- don't pronounce the "o" in "Hwoa". No idea why it's there as his name is from a Taekwon-do pattern called "Hwarang" named after the historical group "Hwarang". It's like if you put an "o" in "Harada" 😅 Also, the "rang" should sound like "bang", "fang" etc.

Sidestep is a good option but u need to train the timing if ur new to tekken. I do recommend using the replay feature whenever u met hwoarang or any player u dont know the matchup against ur character

Learn to KBD to make space. Typically you'll want to sidestep Hwo to the belly side. Punishment practice in practice mode will help. Also if he jabs you from flamingo he has more plus frames than from a normal jab so be careful about mashing. Aside from that, try learning the character yourself to be familiar with his tools. Also try noticing which particular moves are giving you trouble and train options against them in practice mode.

I fought hwoarangs 7 times when I dont know the match up only to get plugged by a reina in my promogame i hate pluggers

Great vid but I disagree! He might be hard to master but if a beginner wants to spam buttons vs their beginners he’s a good choice

It’s not mentioned but Hwoarang also has the strongest back out of the entire Tekken 8 cast. This is a necessity since he has to carry so many players to high ranks.

He doesn't carry trust. It feels that way sure when he's mixing and pressuring. But he gets ducked launched and dick jabbed all the time. Hwo has to be creative. If you don't believe me pick him and play him. See how far you get in ranks. You'll quickly learn he's complex and actually requires thought to play. I played miguel Lars gigsass Leo and lastly hwo. And I found he was the hardest to learn outta all of em in t7. That said is he scary to fight against and annoying yes. Carried no sir.

@@marcusjones9084 Taking a risk is irrelevant in the face of someone who doesn't know you took a risk, and that's the majority of players. Saying that they could actually have pressed a button twice during a flurry of 15,000 attacks is meaningless to them.
