A general rule of thumb for helping a disabled person (Who you don't personally know). Ask them if they need help, before assuming they do. And if they say no, respect that. I've been using a cane regularly since I was 16 (I'm 17 now). Since I usually only have one hand free, some things are a bit harder for me than non-disabled people. But I can still do a lot of things, even if they take a bit more effort. Obviously, everyone is different so different disabled people will have different preferences, however, most disabled people (at least from what I've seen) tend to prefer you asking if they need help instead of outright assuming they can't do whatever task they're trying to do.

I was literally about to start crying during this video. It's always a pleasure to find out that Alex's team never let him down, and he just kept on going. This will always be one of my favorite vids in the entire KZread "universe." Keep going, Alex. Stay strong.

When people have disabilities, other people tend to assume aspects about their lives by bullying them, which makes the aspect complicated for people to comprehend with empathy. However, for people with disabilities, they can overcome the obstacles. Because they believe they are willing to go the distance because of their unique talents and their courage. Also, they are more likely to be well-respected and inspirational heroes for not their skills, but also for their character. Thank you for the message, Dhar Mann.

As a disabled soccer player with 2 prosthetic legs I love this story. I faced very similar issues to Alex, but I Went on to win league's, cups and earlier this year the Disability Europa League. I'm now the league's all time leading scorer. This is a lovely story ❤

My friend got a prosthetic leg, but before that she got lots of help opening doors and said she didn’t need it. I always asked if she needed help before doing it. She is doing amazing now, living her life.

I like how the dad did so much for the kid by being there when his parents did not want him and trying to make him feel like he is more capable of doing things like other people. Thanks dharr. I love your videos.

Alex’s energy is crazy

I love this vid!! I have a friend in my class that has autism. He is my best buddy. Although he may not be able to speak clearly, he still brings light to everyone’s day in my grade. I love how Dhar said at the end of one of his videos, “I don’t think of it as a disability, I think of it as a different ability.” And omg that really made me think about how blessed we are to have different people in our life! Just think, if we were all the same, we wouldn’t be able to share our interests and passions in life! So I thank Dhar for making these videos to spread different ability awareness! ❤😊

There is no shame in saying someone has a disability if someone’s disabled. It’s not a rude thing to say and it isn’t a different ability. People who are disabled struggle a lot more than normal people who don’t have a disability. Doesn’t mean it’s impossible to live but more is needed to do to achieve the same outcome as normal people. I have certain mental illnesses that sometimes get considered as disabilities and, I'll admit, sometimes the abilities they create for me are unique in their own way. They even have their moments of being beneficial (like OCD). But, for the most part, they're actually quite AWFUL to deal with.

I know some people think the term "different ability" is somehow destigmatizing? But I think more often than not, it's invalidating. Though I appreciate his intention to destigmatize, it's frustrating how Dhar Mann has overgeneralized about disability in every disability-related video he's done, essentially claiming that disability doesn't exist, only "different abilities". He is non-disabled and neurotypical, so this (ignorant) assertion is particularly frustrating. In a previous video, he cast a non-disabled actor to play the role of a character with a disability... it was inspiration porn/trauma porn.

As a disabled person, I personally don't mind someone's offer to help with opening a door. I've seen people offering to help a non-disabled person open a door to just do a kind deed, so even if the person helping me does it because they assume I can't do it, I feel I am setting a good example of allowing people to do kindnesses to me. I'm glad the dad was given assistance to get a prosthetic leg for his son, but not every parent will get such help. The video didn't cover that.

Since this true story was so inspirational, the coach’s biggest regret is that he should’ve put Alex on the team as the 8th player instead of Ben the bully. So despite Alex getting a Nike sponsorship from Phil Knight, he deserved way better than being disqualified from the team which obviously Ben should have been disqualified for having discrimination and extreme disrespectful behavior against Alex (who made fun of him when he only had one leg at the beginning before his video went viral which earned him about $8000 to get a prosthetic leg). So in other words if I were the coach, I would have put Alex on the team as the 8th & last player in the tryouts and I would’ve disqualified Ben immediately regardless if he was way better than him and for winning the one-on-one matchup against Alex with the new prosthetic leg. Period

I loved how they used an disabled guy in the video! For me this shows that anyone who is ever disabled can still do what they want to do! And follow their passion! This might be one of my favorite Dhar Mann videos❤❤

As a person with a disability, this hits home for me in so many ways: I was always picked on growing up, my parents couldn’t always afford certain things related to my disability like braces, and my parents couldn’t be more supportive if they tried! I’m so blessed to have them!❤

Some people with disabilities don’t know that. I have a feeling that this will help them to understand that their disability is not what defines them.
