I'm pretty sure the "Ultimates" label means they should make everyone who's interested in these style of figures happy. Meaning if you want to completely recreate the vintage figures with the older style heads and plastic colored weapons, you can do that. If you want the more upgraded figures with newer head sculpts and painted weapons, you can do that too. I happen to prefer the playmates heads with updated weapons. That explains the redundancies in the accessories. I got pretty much the same figures you did, minus April and Baxter, plus Slash, Mutagen Man, and Muckman. That's really all I wanted and am overall happy with them, other than feeling like some of the joints on the turtles are sketchy. They are overpriced, but the toys are why I love ninja turtles, so these appealed to me more than Neca's animated figures. You did a great job of quickly running through these figures' positives and negatives.

Re: "why the foot clan were crawling around on their knuckles" I worked for years with Scott Hensey, the original sculptor on the line, who said Shredder and the Foot Soldier were made standing upright before word came down that the turtles would be 3.75". Instead of resculpting the characters he just squished them down into a crouching position to match the new height of the line. You can see it when they're next to other figures like Casey Jones that if they stood up they'd tower over him haha

Great watch, as always. Super 7 makes such… “interesting” choices with their stuff. I’m not the biggest Turtles fan, but I can 100% understand trying to find that perfect sweet spot of a uniform style of collection and just hoping they all make sense when put on display. Great to see Bebop and Rocksteady get some height and bulk with the line. Side Note: I grabbed dinner while watching this. Wife ordered pizza, so something about poetry and rhyming.

The worst thing about being a TMNT fan is being torn between what you grew up on and the more realistic variants that are offered now! Slash is my favorite and I always felt the playmates original was too small but super 7 got it right! The neca comic version is nice too but I hate the lack of detail on his shell and the color they chose for his armor!

Krang needs to be in his humanoid body. As mentioned elsewhere, there would be some other great side characters from the first season to add, but this is a pretty comprehensive collection. I'd have loved a swappable Baxter Stockman head that was his original human face too...for comic effect if nothing else...great vid as ALWAYS Michael!

I know I’m late to the party, but regarding whether or not the excessive packaging is adding to the 50$ price tag… they are not. My local Best Buy has a couple of the Ultimates for sale, and they’re all the same price as they are online. If I had to guess, that massive price tag has a lot more with some of the more superfluous additions like the extra heads and uncolored accessories.

Super7 Ultimates TMNT is my favorite Turtles toy line so far. The size scaling is great. It fixes things like Shredders eyes being on his helmet and I love that the Turtles themselves have alternate 2003 style heads. I'd love to see character designs from that series incorporated into the line much as MOTU Classics had all eras incorporated into the line.

That's interesting you prefer them over the toon or movie NECA ones. I guess that just comes down to preferring the Playmates styling. I have a handful, but the only Super7 stuff I like is ReAction figures (which most ppl hate), and ThunderCats. I'd be over the moon if Mattel got the license back, or NECA...but if you want ThunderCats, that's the only option. At least they've overall gotten a bit better with releases like Monkian and Vultureman.

There is an answer as to why so many of the human characters are awkwardly hunched over in the playmates toy line. According to a documentary on the toys I saw, the dictate from playmates was that the figures had to not exceed a 5-in or so height in packaging, and since shredder was so much taller than the turtles they opted for him and the soldiers to have a sort of strange hunched over position. Even April is standing with her knees weirdly bent a bit to keep her short. I also have the April from the super seven line, but that's likely to be the only one I ever pick up because yeah these are far far too expensive for the average collector who dabbles in other lines

I'll never 4get going to Kmart in my hometown on my 6th birthday and buying master splinter with the 5 dollar bill my grandfather gave me for my birthday. I opened the figure in the backseat and his arm fell off. It was the only 1 in the store and I cried because I knew he was headed back to the store. I never saw another splinter on the store racks after that. Man this video brings me back. I was a huuuge GI JOE and Turtles fan growing up. I started collecting action figures again 2 years ago and have been lucky enuff to find sum great deals at Walmart and gamestops to start recollecting my childhood. I found a Michaelangelo figure at Walmart a couple months ago it was in the electronic section of the store and not the toy aisle. It was sitting on a price on a shelf that said 7$. he was the only 1 in the store and I took it to the electronic checkout and it rang up for 23$. I told the guy it was sitting on a 7$ price tag and since he wasn't able to find any other figures to price reference he was awesome and sold it to me for 7 bucks. It's a decent figure I haven't taken him outta the box. I don't even know what company manufactured the toyline but I can tell by looking at it that it's definitely different than any turtle figure I've ever seen. Even the color of Mikey is a strange off colored green. Anyway great channel very insightful. I wanted to start collecting again for years but was embarrassed to start seeing's how I'm almost 40. You and a few other KZread collectors made me realize collecting figures isn't nerdy it's extremely cool.

I used to have the old Turtles toys and I think it's cool that they resurrected them and gave them the exact card backing and accessories and figure. However, I'm such a huge fan that I had to get screen accurate TMNT figures and s. h. figuarts definitely kicked to ass at them. Thanks for the videos as always. You're very lucky to have grown up in the 80s. You got to see a lot of the great eighties movies when they first came out in the theaters and I'm sure you got the original Nintendo when it first hit the shelves. I know it's not really your thing, but I'm glad to see you reviewing modern toys. Super7 especially seems the perfect fit for you to review. These figures just occupy a strange place. They're not quite modern and not quite vintage, with an added dose of weirdness. The accessory sprew is just... pointless, and I've yet to see anyone actually use them. They seem to just stay in the boxes or get shoved into an accessory draw. The articulation is incredibly limited for a premium, modern action figure, too, so they're kind of hard to slot into a modern action figure collection. And the QC... Super7's QC makes Hasbro's look good. It just makes them feel overpriced. For me, usually, Super7 a company I only go to if nobody else has a license they have. So, ThunderCats and SilverHawks. The only reason I've been considering these for the past year or so is because they can pass for the 2003 Turtles. But Super7's design philosophy just feels outdated and sometimes even strange.

I collected the the first four waves, plus the variant wave. I even got an extra figure of each of the turtles so I could display them and still have the collection in their boxes. Then, I cleared some shelf space. I was going to put the four Super 7 turtles where I had been displaying the Revoltech versions from the 2010 Nickelodeon animated series. I opened Leo… Manischewitz, was I disheartened! The figure is decent, but the “groin-al” region where the ball joints attach to the shell is so loose the figure keeps wanting to do a split. He’s barely posable. I honestly like my NECA Turtles in Time figures better. I haven’t even had the heart to test out the other three. Maybe it was just bad luck. Eventually, I’ll find out. Since then, I’ve only bought a couple that are of sentimental/nostalgia value (like that anthropomorphic duck pilot(?) and samurai Leonardo). By the time I found out that the quality control was not perfect, I had already purchased four or five waves of ThunderCats, Ren and Stimpy, a couple different Toxic Crusader figures (I think one glows), and the first wave of Transformers. I’d also pre-ordered the GI Joe waves that are live, the Animaniacs, The Simpson’s, The Power Rangers, and SilverHawks. Plus, the upcoming waves of the lines I’d already started collecting. I’ve since cancelled all my BBTS Super 7 pre-orders. I’ll still give one figure a try from each line; like Snake Eyes. But I’m only giving them a few more chances. I understand manufacturing isn’t going to be 100%. If it turns out that Leonardo was an aberration, I’ll just replace him. There doesn’t seem to be a real hurry, as Super7 stuff doesn’t seem to sell out at BBTS. There’s really no reason to pre-order, especially since they can’t seem to hit their release dates. I’m not as annoyed about that as some. I don’t really care if they have supply chain issues. Hasbro misses the mark regularly and they’re Hasbro. All I care about is that the figures are made well whenever they do finally arrive. I really want to like this company and to support them. Updating classic toy lines and reintroducing them. Great idea in principle. There’s so many I’d love to see get the Super7 treatment. Visionaries, MASK, DC Super Powers, re-release the MOTU figures I missed… But I’m just not sure I trust them. Like, I’ve always liked the ReAction line. I love classic toys, I love collecting stuff; so a toy line as large and diverse as ReAction makes perfect sense. I like the retro 5 point articulation… But the cool thing about limiting the articulation should be that you can charge less, right? Right?? Alas, they’re like $17.99 each. I mean, I get it: expensive licenses, but almost $20?? And even then, I’d consider them, but they insist on using the flimsiest card stock on the planet for the figure’s backing cards. For $17.99 there’s no excuse for the figures to come direct from BBTS with warped cards. I’ve tried a few (Jem, Glow in the Dark He-Man, glow in the dark Snake Eyes and Firefy); not one had an acceptable backer. Again, quality control.

A respectable look at an uneven line. If the prices were lower, and the QC better, I'd be tempted to pick up at least the hero Turtles. If only Super7 was as detail-minded and quality focused as you are when you produce these (always entertaining) videos. And the ending was #chefskiss. "OMG, it's like Retroblasting's greatest hits! Next thing you know he'll do another Freeze Chamber video!"

Yeah, I stuck with NECA and Playmates for my turtle collection. I got two things from Super 7 and they are neat but they don't wow me, especially at that price point. I was excited for the silverhawks until I saw the poor QC they had and the wild drop in detail and paint apps. I sure hope the party wagon is going to end up ok at its price point when it finally hits.

TMNT was my first toy franchise as a kid, and Michael’s 2-part review of that line was my introduction to RetroBlasting. Was anyone else admiring Michael’s DVD collection during Pandermonium?

I bought all 4 of the Turtles earlier this year, and they might be the only Super 7 TMNT figures I'm gonna get. Maybe Beebop and Rocksteady, but I never liked the Playmates design for the rest of the characters. Probably just find the right figures to kitbash and customize Shredder, April, Casey and Splinter. I'd like to see Super 7 make like a Turtle Accessory Pack with different original style heads, Communicators, a better Bow Staff etc. to kind of fully round out the Turtles better, but knowing Super 7 it would probably be like 50-60 bucks for less plastic than a Vintage Series Star Wars toy.

I just got both of the mutagen man variants and metalhead. I don't know about going deeper on the line. They look great but their a lot of work to set up properly, and there is the worry their just going to topple over and fall apart since the joints are so loose.

These look much better than the Super7 Disney Robin Hood I was eying. I went the NECA route as despite their plastic issues, they look completely cartoon accurate, which I value over looking like the original toys.

I feel like if you want highly articulated modern figures based on the 80s Turtles, you've already got the very extensive NECA line, the much more expensive and incredibly articulated SH Figurarts and the not as good but much more affordable BST AXN from Loyal Subjects - plus, if you're REALLY on a tight budget there's those superarticulated Playmates Turtles that the company keeps re-releasting every couple of years. Four options that between them cover pretty much any requirement or budget. Super 7 don't really bring anything to the party besides a slavish love for the vintage Playmates figures. Their figures are expensive but they're not as detailed and well sculpted as NECA's, and they're almost 3 times the price of the Loyal Subjects figures yet they have less articulation. I just don't see where they fit into the market.

Although I do collect a lot of Super 7 figures, I also collect MOTU origins and it amazes me that those figures are $18 and look amazing. I’d love to see Super 7 drop all that packaging and send me my figures in a bag if it shaved off $15 for each figure lol.

I have all those but baxter. I assure you even with those changes they would charge that much for them. They should for the price they are charging have had 4 heads toy, mirage, original and a unique one. They need to fix them damn hips too. They have all those issues cause they don't want to hire us actual fans. To this day idk why companies seem to avoid that nes box art art style. That is my fave art style.

Excellent review once again Michael, every point you made was spot on. I love your format, it's so carefully crafted and precise. Made the same choices, except I got Mutagen Man instead of Baxter, as Baxter was one of the first TMNT figures I was offered as a kid, and I hated it, I wanted a Turtle! Like you, I passed on Krang, too expensive for what it is, and I doubt I'll buy another figure from this line. The only one I may be interested in is the Gorilla, as he just looks so cool, but it's too expensive for what it is. They should do a 2-figures pack when the figure is too small, like Ace Duck or Krang. The nice boxes & extra accessories just don't cut it. Everything feels premium but when you fail to deliver on the headsculpt, which is the most important thing, it's a big problem. They completely failed April. I knew it & still got her, but can't help wishing for a reissue with proper headsculpts, like the customs you showed. On a side note, I'll join your patreon as I love your work, but I feel you should activate the membership/member only option on your channel. I use it on my channel and I feel it's more rewarding than using Patreon or other platforms (maybe you're more taxed with KZread, haven't compared, but the engagement is better). Very easy to use, you can host all of your videos on youtube (and create a separate playlist with member videos that everyone can see but you need to join to see the actual videos), create badges, stickers, and so on. And since you got over 100K suscribers, you'll have even more options than I do ; )
