I rewatched Aliens just the other day, and I had the same thought. Hudson was a grade A complainer, but did everything he needed to do when he needed to do it. He even went down swinging, though he probably could have lived longer had he followed Corporal Hicks through the door in a timely manner instead of going berserk on the xenomorphs.

The post processing really sets this off!

Hudson is a wildly misunderstood character, and the movie doesn't help. In previous versions of the script all marines had more of a backstory, fragments of them remain in the film. All members of the marine squad are lifers except Hudson, he signed up for ten years. His dream was to buy a bar, then he could live the rest of his life in luxury. He's been saving his wages for the whole time he's been a squad member. We hear him say he only has four more weeks of service, so when he bitches about things, its because he's literally watching his lifelong dream, his entire future, slide down the toilet. He's lived for ten years in a crack Marine squad, so he's not a bad soldier, just overwhelmed by events....the squad are used to alien encounters, though its not explained well by the film, they just haven't encountered an alien race as aggressive before. Same thing happens to other squad members to varying degrees, if youve ever wondered why Vasquez reacts differently to Drake's death than the others, thats a previous script moment too I realise this is all beside the pojnt here, but it annoys me somewhat when Hudson in particular gets flak 😂 i feel like i have to stick up for him! Great use of the sample, and the whole track is pretty cool
