Producer, writer and director of Indian films. As a director, is known as Black Friday (2004), a controversial Indian film award-winning, about the attacks occurred in Mumbai in 1993 in India. Also famous for No Smoking (2007), Dev.D (2009), Gulaal (2009), That Girl in YellowBoots (2010) and Canadian film by Oscar-nominated Water (2005). In 1999, Kashyap won the Best Screenplay by Satya at the Star Screen Award. The following year, his short film Las Train to Mahakali won the Special Jury Prize in the same award. Black Friday, its prestigious film debut, won the Grand Jury Prize at the 3rd Annual Festival of Film Indian Los Angeles (2005) and competed at the Pardo d'Or (awarded Best Film) at the 57th Locarno Film Festival (2004), in Switzerland. At the Venice Film Festival in 2009, had highlighted Dev.D and Gulaal Kashyap and also participated in the jury of the festival, with film director Ang Lee as president. Dev.Dgrabbed most of the awards including six Filmfare and four Screen Awards in 2009. In the same period, although he was nominated for the Asia-Pacific Academy Awards forthis film.
In 2010, won the Indian of The Year Award (Indian of the Year) on the television networkNDTV, voted among the 100 Indians more reliable by the readers of Digest. It was ranked in 2011 among the 100 most influential people of Mumbai. The film Udaan (2010) was selected in Un Certain Regard in Cannes (2010), and won the Audience Award at the Giffoni Film Festival, and Best Film and Best Soundtrack. The production also won the audience award in the following international film festivals:Seattle, Palm Springs and Houston - all in the USA. Nominated for best children's film by Academy APSA (Asia Pacific Awards) in Australia. And accumulated the largest number of awards in India, including best screenwriter andfilm.
His new production, Shaitan, was a critical success and box office in 2011.
The next movie, Michael, opened earlier this month at the International Film Festival of Toronto. He also co-produced Trishna, Michael Winterbottom, who was released at the same festival.

    No smoking was one the only kind of movie made in Bollywood having multiple interpretations. obviously people were unable to understand at that time

    He definitely is the most under rated film maker in a land where we worship actors, plagiarize western themes and are down right unoriginal, he stands out for being a master story teller, and has to be given credit for being original.

    When I saw Gangs of Wasseypur i liked it, when I saw Black Friday i liked the the Director for making such kind of movie, But when i saw Paanch my respect towards this man came in to picture for making movies which can be compared with hollywood and unnoticed...\\m//...
