I have always liked mma and boxing. What both have in common besides from boxing and ko's, it's a hunger that breathes into the charachter of a fighter and reveals who the fighter really is inside the ring or the octagon.

Nah, fighters love watching and talking about fighting, its easily relatable, also they have a great understanding of a certain element of MMA, not just the boxing either, mental warfare and many other aspects

I love the fact that Teddy Atlas, a world class trainer in boxing, spends 22 minutes breaking down a 5 second MMA fight. Teddy's understanding of fighting, life and the mindset of a fighter is second to none. I can listen to Teddy breakdown the most mundane activity all day long. Ken Rideout deserves credit as well, he does a great job keeping the show moving and making sure Teddy stays in the topic because Teddy can just go off in another direction and start talking about some random fight from 1912 that nobody has ever heard about. Great podcast and I can't wait for them to start getting some big name fighters on the show starting with Shannon Briggs and Mike Tyson. Iron Mike HAS to be a 5 part series where every episode is at least 2 hours because there is so much history between those 2.

@T Morales you never know. Mike has changed and grown a lot over the years. I think he might be willing to put the past and his ego behind him and talk it out. It's not just Mike, Teddy also has to put his ego and the past on the shelf. Mike's best years as a fighter happened with D'Amato and Teddy in his corner, Teddy and Mike also had a lot of beef. They need to get it all out so they dont go to the grave with all this animosity in their hearts. They can move on from any differences they've had in the past, they have both grown and changed since those days. Men have hashed out bigger differences than anything Teddy and Mike have between them.

People aren't mentioning Askren's mistake of taking the center of the cage immediately and Jorge's genius of applying meta game tactics. Masvidal takes two slow paced towards the black line to close some distance and immediately changes rhythm into a sprint. Masvidal essentially bluffed a striking distance and then put extreme pressure on Askren by sprinting forward. This is a general game theory tactic, put pressure on someone to force mistakes. Pressure forces someone to make decisions quickly and it can often make people go into auto-pilot and you exploit their tendencies. As Masvidal mentioned "as soon as I saw how eager he was to come forward, I knew he was going to take the bait." Masvidal took Askren's soul. Jorge knew what you were going to do before you knew. Masvidal is for sure decent at poker and I've heard him say he plays in interviews.

Witnessing Teddy Atlas beginning to fall in love with MMA warms my heart
It's awesome that Teddy Atlas instantly knew what he's looking at and that he was able to recall a fight where a similar thing happened.
Apologies to Paulino Hernandez. That's PH holding the pad in the practice video, not Mike Brown, as I incorrectly stated on the show. I made a mistake. Congratulations to Paulino and Jorge for the awesome strategy and win!

Awesome video and break down of the set up of both fights by teddy atlas
It is so awesome to see the Great Great Teddy Atlas giving respect to MMA. He is a FIGHT specialist. He understands the special circumstances of MMA. Two men, with all their weapons, going head to head. Wow. This is where the fight game was going. It was inevitable. I love Boxing. I love Teddy. I love Mike Tyson. I love MMA.
This is the first time I have watched this podcast, great content, could listen to Teddy talk fighting all day, subscribed

Teddy Atlas has such a great understanding of combat sports. Thanks champ.

Fantastic commentary! Thank you.
Well that knockout has even boxing experts talking about it
Great to see you talking about ufc and mma
God DAMN love listening to Teddy. Legend.
I love how ar 19:20 they talk about that "silent agreement" two fighters have where some rounds they'll take it easy just via composure and body energy its mutual. So true,so true
It was truly brilliant. Imagine practicing a game plan for a couple months and then on fight night you execute it perfectly. It must feel amazing.
Awesome gems being dropped by Teddy. It’s always great to hear from him!
Always love Teddys insight thanks guys
Teddy is so passionate about not just boxing, but fighting in general. Has incredible insight about the psychology behind it, as well. The man is a legend.
Awesome analysis and insight!
This will be one of your most watched videos of all time. That was Awesome to have Teddy Atlas commenting on MMA.
Good to hear people from the boxing world talk about good UFC fights in a positive light 👊 Do one about the main event, Santos is badass and throws with heat.
Great breakdown from a true teacher and student of combat sports
Alright love hearing some MMA talk. Teddy's opinion on any fighting is gold in my book. Thanks guys.
Power without delivery "will make a big hole in the ground... and you can go swimming!"
He tailored the idea originally I believe from yoel Romero if you watch that fight vs Chris Weidman another wrestler who shot for a takedown ended by a brutal knee in the middleweight division
Listening to Teddy Atlas talk about boxing/fight game is a true gift #LEGEND
Great to see u guys break down Ufc. Would like to see more💯
Teddy Atlas inspired me to become at some point of my life a boxing commentator for a Romanian television.I hope I will meet him someday.I am a boxing trainer with Team USA,I become an American citizen since then, but all the time when I see Teddy Atlas,I remember how much he influenced me.Thank you ,Sir,I wish you and your family health and all the best.

I love this moment of acknowledgement!I love that they gave credit to who deserved it! If anything has been left out by anyone any experts that have commented on this it would be the humble nature that Jorge has displayed giving credit to his team and coaches and acknowledging the skill set brought to the Octagon by Ben not taking him for granted! Now having noo said that this was Jorge's idea ,plan, and strategy! He practiced it for a long period of time and studied Ben Askren. You for sure know this now and this was the ultimate Gamebred Gameplan! The genius was not only to have this stategy but he is genius for putting it out there on purpose so it can be seen by trusted warriors that did not let the proof of his genius fall into the enemies fight camp, but put it out so it can be no question that this was no accident ! It was well thought out ,well executed ,and no matter what anyone may think about Ben Akren's fight I .Q. it reminds me of a question someone asked Einstein "How does it feel to be the most intelligent man on planet Earth?" Albert Einstein replied," I have no idea ?you would have to ask Nikoli Tesla!" Ben Askren was flat out wrong about Jorge! He is a Fighter he is not a thug that got lucky! He is a student of the fight game who is continuously improving! Great job Jorge Masvidal you will win again because he still disrespectfully mispronounces your name.Congradulations from me to you way to follow through with your promise you deserve a shot at the title real deal fight reel!
great video
Not many people would see that setup except experts like teddy atlas of course. Masvidal even said later that he was setting up Akron with the hands behind his back. Atlas is a genius
teddy we love & need your honest sport analysis thank you sir
For me the best thing about this video.... I'm going to watch this with my dad, he's 70, I'm 36. Over time my preference shifted to mma, dad prefers boxing (and kickboxing, we're Dutch). A video like this on the overlapping games and strategy in both disciplines pointed out by Teddy is something cool to share with him. Thanks for doing this. ++ P.S. Just something to add. A while ago Masvidal had a backstage altercation that was caught on video. Jorge also approached the situation with hands behind his back. Masvidal after that altercation explained that he purposefully had his hands behind his back to show the other guy that he had no intent to be violent. He said this over and over, but he said it casually. Could that moment and how he explained it afterwards have helped built the hand placement be seen as non-violent?
Bridging the gap between the two sports. Thanks gentlemen
Love the podcast even more for breaking down an MMA fight. Teddy is a genius. Amazing!
Damn. You know that KO shook the world outside of MMA when teddy atlas discuss it. Brilliant.
Teddy is the shit! I love hearing this guy talk about fight strategy.

Teddy is fighting. The man is a legend and truly a good man. He can see the greatness in every combat sport and how all combat sports use each others tactics in a fight.
He gave him the Double Dragon 2 Knee
It felt good knowing what fight Teddy was talking about and seeing it like 10 times before.

How can you not love Teddy I just love the insight and the history . Great podcast
I wanna hear more Teddy talking MMA striking. It's not his game but Teddy knows striking and combat. Boxing and MMA should be 1 community.
Great sound

Teddy loves the fight game. His genius is his passion - thanks for the breakdown!!!!
This is awesome 👏 👏👏
You can jus hear the passion that comes outta teddy atlas he has for combat sports
Lovely to hear about the great Jersey Joe and the originators of fightology
Truly grateful to have access such in-depth analysis, and I don’t have to worry about feeding it incorrectly into anything. However there was one small issue, the man in the cage is Paulino Hernandez Masvidal’s striking coach. Mike Brown is the head coach and wrestling coach for Masvidal, but he was filming the training not the one in the cage. Not trying to sharpshoot you just wanted to give the Great Paulino Hernandez his due. Thanks again.
Wrestler v striker? Masdival can do it all and has legit wrestling himself. Good vid.
@jTech50
4 жыл бұрын
it's still fair to call masvidal a striker. yes he is extremely well rounded, but his major fighting style is standup kickboxing and boxing. he can wrestle, and grapple, and submit people, but he prefers to trade and exchange in the striking department. the same is true of his opponent. yes, askren can throw punches. although the contrast is obviously a bit starker with him.
Brilliant commentary
I'm an MMA fan but was a Jersey Joe fan long before. It's cool af to hear Atlas compare MMA to boxing legends I adore. Thanks for the vid.
The discount code for the shorts only works on individual pairs not the 2 packs?
I can listen to Teddy Atlas talk MMA all day long.
Teddy should watch more of Masvidals fights. He has some of the best hand speed and combinations in the division, probably the best for me. Ruthless body shots, punches from everywhere, great defense. Masvidal is an amazing puncher.
This made me like this KO even more, I didn't even think about the setup. even when they saw each other before the fight Jorge had his hands behind his back each time haha, truly brilliant.
People need to start realizing that boxing itself is a martial art and is incorporated in mma
"BANG" Teddy Atlas Keep these coming!
I was born in Jersey, my boxing gym is in the Queen city. Loved this clip. Joe is one of my boxing idols so to get Charles is makes him more impressive.
It'd be really cool if you could get Jorge masvidal on the show. He's a fan of boxing and has been training it for a lot of years. When Jorge first started fighting he would imitate Roberto Duran, one of his favorite fighters ever. Great Show Ken, I like how you are informed and took the time to mention people's names.
Awesome hearing Teddy on this blowout if a fight. Legend.
