Ted Mosby Was Really The Villain of HIMYM
Фильм және анимация
Ted Mosby is framed as an idealistic "good guy" on How I Met Your Mother, but looking back it kind of seems like he's... the bad guy.

We don't love Ted because he is a good guy but because he is real.
He’s a human being, we are both selfish and unselfish creatures

Yeah, but their is a different between being a selfish person and being a walking red flag of a person. Ted's whole charcter is that he falls in love with women he just meets and the moment they don't fall in line with the fantasy versions of them self in his head he either dumps them or stalks and manipulates to try and change them the fantasy versions he has in his head.

@@annamarie1914 You mean like Robin who had daddy issues, slept with Barney and when he broke his relationship with Nora, she didn't with Kevin. Wants Ted when he is going for Stella. They are all flawed.
What I like though is that older Ted acknowledges that his younger self did some crazy stuff. He knows he was crazy with dating but at least he changed

Exactly! He is the major reason I keep coming back for a rewatch. His journey through so many doomed romances is kinda inspiring... he always gets back up and is ready to go through all of it again because he believes 'love is the best thing we do' and it's just endearing yet realistic and relatable. Also, all his efforts in making Robin not feel the same way he feels(losing a chance with someone you love) and literally swimming for the locket and never even letting her know that, makes him such a villain, right??? Ted's a fool, but he ain't a villain. He wanted his friends to be happy and he always goes the extra mile for them. Also, Ted learns from his mistakes.

Its not about the writing of the character, it’s the character itself
Uh... okay? Or maybe he's just human, and he's going through life like any human would, making mistakes, learning from them, and making memories with his friends... I think you missed the point of the show if you're looking for a 'bad guy' :/

My friend and I had a conversation about exactly this last week. The version of the story Ted tells his children is very specifically and intentionally a romanticized version of his experiences. Because to him it's the story of how he became the person that could meet Tracy. Nothing makes this more clear than the real version of the St Patty's night when they flashback using Ted's voicemails.

Yeah but he tried to make Barney look the bad guy. So he's an asshole
He may have exaggerated his good behavior, doesn't make him a bad man, he's desperate but WTH who's not, some people don't show it, some people like ted do it
I don't know what to say but one thing is certain that Ted Mosby can never be called as villan Yes he has done very bad things with her last girlfriends But the amount of pain he has suffered is immeasurable. (Especially watching your ex-girlfriend getting married to your own friend) +Even in the last his love Tracy also died then there's that. I can't call him as a villan. Never Or friendship overrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...

Who's that?
Disagree. Ted was selfish when he was younger, but then grew and changed over time. All people do. Look at how he did marry his wife… they were together for years and years and had children before they ever got married. This was in stark contrast to younger Ted who wanted love and marriage now, on his terms. People change over time. They start out selfish and demanding, and then (hopefully) grow and mature. This show demonstrated that.
Barney n Robin deserved to end up together
You know what, find me a real person who's as good as you feel "a good protagonist should be" Ted might not be a hero, but he's not a villain!! He's like any other person, not perfect. Also, you're totally overlooking all the great things he did for Marshall, Lily, Robin, he freakin let his love of life go for Barney so that they can live happily
Wow... You must be a really fun person.
What a pathetic, short-sighted take based on ONLY THE FIRST season of the show.

@@Mani26031981 LOL! He and Robin were a train wreck totally as he created an ideal image of her in his head(obsession) and Tracy was just a baby making machine for him and he never evolved throughout the show clinging on to the fantasy but sure defend his nice guy image! Ted is the villain who thinks he's not and it also has been well pointed out by almost all big critics.
I guess... he just stood for what he believed. And over the time he changed... and so did his beliefs. And if one doesn't do that... (by 'that' I mean standing for what they believe in), then it would be a perfect definition of a 'dead person'.
There's no good or bad guy of this show. That's the beauty of it. The whole point is that everyone is human. Everyone does real shitty things that they regret doing, even if they're an overall good person. If you say you've never done anything shitty, you're just a liar. It's only human. The point of the show is growing, learning from your experiences, from your own mistakes, and becoming a better, happier person.
Nahh if you think Ted is the villain, you just don't get the point
Thats exactly the problem with the viewers where they are trying to look at how someone is a bad guy or a good guy... But I'll tell you what, this show made me realise that my bad parts and times are as important and should be acknowledged as my good times and parts . It's life nothing can be so idealistic. Ted , as human being can let go and as the same can act selfish it's totally normal. It's about how you learn slowly to love and not be that way.
no, Ted was not a villain, he is a great guy, he has his bad things and makes mistakes like a human being; ted is the person in the group who has helped others the most, he has been everyone's best friend
"Unlucky women" *shows stella* Yes cuz he was definitely the bad guy there. She was the most uncompromising character in the entire show 💀 Plus, the whole second half of the show, the majority of the time, Ted puts other people's feelings first even if it means he's miserable. He makes mistakes, but he's human. That's the whole point of the show. Life isn't a fairytale where everything is perfect. People are human beings. They can do good things and real shitty things. Every single character in the show does
Didn’t ask
If you think ted’s a bad guy, you’re overly critical and don’t understand sitcoms
Ha Classic Shmosby
Ted is the best character which I have ever seen.
This nobody is commenting about a sitcom that was successful for 9 seasons and the lead character is Ted Mosby, offcourse the idea of writer is to show human flaws in each characters. 🙏
Interesting I’ve never heard a forest armpit feminists take on Ted mosey before
I didn’t like the story of the show, what I think would have been best is Ted dating Robin, then they broke up because both are looking for different stuff at the time, then they dated other people, but decided to date again and then Ted realized he has this impossible image of his true love/Robin and Robin that she in fact changed what she wanted in life, but not with Ted, he was just like her comfort zone, so both decide to break stuff again so Ted can go learn and date other women to make a more realistic image of the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with for him then to met Tracey and Robin falls in love with Barney, they don’t have kids, but both have a fantastic career and are happy love and career wise. Instead of Ted being super toxic and super inlove with Robin until the very day she gets married until she becomes “available” again, plus almost all his relationships after dating Robin were sabotage by him knowingly or unknowingly
Besides Marshall I think you can make a case on how they’re all bad people but that’s why they’re great characters cause there human
I love ted mosby he was a loving husband to tracy, loving father to his kids, legendary bro for barney, and best friend to marshall and lily. and althought deep down some part of him still loved robin but he never let that destroy his family, and was always loyal and faithful and 100% commited to tracy.
This is true. But Ted is relatable, In many ways, he is all of us.
I just disagree with this. He made mistakes and was desperate to find love so he did things attempting to find that. When he finds the one all of that falls away. There are much more obvious bad people in the show compared to Ted. I would argue that really Marshall is the only one with his hands clean.
You used examples for literally only season 1. He evolves as a character as everyone else
Well this show is meant to be more realistic, we are all selfish at times like when he made Robin get rid of her dogs, and unselfish at times like when he told Robin Barney was going to propose to Patrice so she could stop it.
Well lets see 1) One girl left him at the alter 2) The other wanted him to get away from one of his best friends-robin(one of the reasonable one which is actually a mature decision from both sides) 3) a girl used a secretly recorded clip of him in the court to win against him and wanted him to support her and never did the same for him 4) Robin was also reasonable as she wanted something different from ted and she was the one to break up with him And a girl who was a literal psychopath And two reasonable girls who were robin and the first gf(idr her name) broke off with him not the other way around so you can see who is in the wrong here People always forget how ted got broken up with so many people he called the one, the dont remember that he never wanted to but they made him break up Ted is made to be the nice guy thats how the protagonist of a story goes not the other way around
The story wouldn’t be what it was if Ted hadn’t been a “helpless romantic”. Even though Ted can be seen as the bad guy, it’s the perspective that makes the story so real
I think it's more like he can not accept what is happening to him and always trying to change reality which we see in the episode where they all try to jump to the other building( god I love every second of this episode), the one where ted learn the it's okay to not be the successful architect he thought he will be , ted have been always struggling with not being able to let things go, and only when he truly accept his destiny and decide to move on with his life. He meet the love of his life. Of course I am ignoring the massive screwed up ending.
Ted is the definition of "Nice guys" . I'm not sure whether he deserve Tracy or not. Barney on the other hand, is bad and pure evil but he never claim himself as a good person.
These are stories told by his older self. He's making the stories interesting for his kids. There have been multiple instances where he wasn't telling the right story or messing up details
Someone play that clip of the rock telling a woman to stop talking in an aggressive manorb
Lilly was the villain. She lied about everything and manipulated everyone to get what she wanted.
I might not to able to sleep tonight.
Okay i was thinking... what if Ted had always been a womanizer in their gang and a non romantic guy(like how they showed Barney) and all the romantic side he told his kids about him is just about Barney. What if the playbook was Ted's not Barney's. What if Ted had a shot with Robin first as they showed us. And he screwed it. He always disappointed Robin. Because? He was always hooking up with girls and Robin always wanted kids and that was the last thing Ted wanted. He hated kids. So Robin chose Barney because he always wanted kids and he was the romantic guy who was emotionally available. Then later, after breaking up with Ted and getting into a relationship with barney she announced that she can't have kids so Ted wants her back but tooo late.....Barney planned to propose Robin and asked Ted to bring her to the romantic building but he made his last move by saying he is proposing to Patrice at your favourite romantic spot and you should come with me it's a big night then Robin says it's just a building i have to go to see Barney and ask him but Barney was already there on his knees and told her Patrice helped him plan the proposal and told him Robin's favourite romantic spot....She says yes they got engaged.Barney finds out Robin's lost locket that's why she decided to marry Barney but Ted was still in love with Robin and he wanted to get her back without being a bad guy so he makes a second playbook and makes a plan "THE ROBIN" for getting Robin back. He tried to take the credit of finding the locket by asking Barney to lie to Robin that Ted found the locket because he forgot to buy them a wedding gift(like he never gave that coffee maker to marshal and Lily he just made that up so his kids don't hate him)And Barney was a good guy so he lie to Robin for covering Ted's ass. But later she finds out it was Barney who found the locket because Ted said he found it in lily and Marshall's basement but when Robin asked Barney he gave her the pigeon story. And Ted tries to convince Robin to run away with her but she refuses and he grabs her hand and makes her run away with him. Then they bump into tracy. And Ted pretends to be convincing Robin not to run away from the wedding think about Barney before Robin says something tracy agrees with Ted she says i don't know you but please think about it close your eyes and take three deep breaths and she leaves and Ted becomes the good guy in Tracy's eyes. Robin shouts at Ted and leave.Robin still decides to marry Barney. After getting married they danced with each other and tracy was there so then he meets Tracy who has the exact same personality of Ted (that he made up in front of his kids, just to be a good guy) Ted came up with a new idea.Ted goes to Robin and apologizes for his behaviour and tells her that he was drunk and it was stupid of him to say such things and he is happy for her and Barney. The whole gang loved Tracy because she was a sweetheart she consoled all of them Lily, Marshall, Barney and at the end Robin(when Ted made her look like she was running away)He acts to be in love with Tracy but she told him about how she loved max and he died and she tried to date louis it was disaster so she is not dating anyone. He try his tricks from his playbook to trap her she falls for it and kiss him. He pretends to be in love with her and gets her pregnant so that she will have to marry him.(So Robin and everyone believes that Ted has moved on and is in love with tracy)They get married and then Ted kills Tracy and gives her death's reason to be a disease or some sort of illness. Then he created problems in Robin and Barney's married life( just like how lily used to destroy his relationships) they got a divorce. Which makes both Robin and Barney depressed. Barney went back to his old habits to distract himself and Robin gets lots of dogs to console herself from the drastic change in her life.He can finally have Robin but there was a problem HIS KIDS he could've killed then too because he hated kids but then it would become suspicious to everyone so he made him look innocent in front of his kids and made his kids propose the idea of him going to aunt Robin. And he finally goes there without the French blue horn because? ( that was Barney who did steal the horn for her not Ted he just made that up)
The show is being retold by him, of course he’s gonna exaggerate some things and the whole show is Ted’s character arc of him learning to be a better person If you think Ted is a bad person then Barney is a sinner
Totally disagree, but respect this opinion.
you guys sometimes look like you watched only 2 seasons at max. Yes, he does all that stuff but he got what he deserved, specially after Stella. After that, he grows as a character
Look, Ted loved Robin from the start and okay he seemed selfish at times but it's only cause he truly did try to let Robin go. He was just trying to fill a void, and sometimes that means meeting the best people for you but still feel it's not enough, it's not selfish at all
Being a Ted is actually a curse now. Because you women much like Robin would typically fall for guys with nefarious intentions and when they dump you, you start crying about why you couldn't find a nice guy. Such hypocrisy!
He see Robin suffering in the future and he sacrifice everything he had to stop it. What are you talking about
I think himym is based on this flawed concept of dating where you sleep around and pick up girls at bars. You cant really just juge ted for this, this is how everyone acts. I love himym even tho i think the way it shows dating is flawed, it has heart and it shows love in some of its purest forms.
Bad guy? Really? Narcissistic? Wow, this means I got the entire show “wrong” LOL
Come on. He wasn't that bad on those women. He just went dating with a few women it wasn't meant to be. He was a little focus on himself doing so, but there he is now of a victim of his own nature rather than a villain
Wrong analogy Ted is real. He is realistic yall just being a hater

Barney has a playbook. He took advantage of the women. He will do anything to get in the bed and you are saying Ted is the worst. Even though Ted and barney made mistake , they have grown at last. Stella is the worst character. Go find another job other than KZread
Yikes. Bad take my dude. Wanna take a look at a narcissistic guy who paints himself as the romantic protagonist? Ross from Friends. I can jump on the bandwagon about Ross being a bad person, but not Ted. Ted is a very romantic and passionate guy. In the beginning, maybe he didn’t have the best approach, but who the hell is perfect in a relationship? Sometimes you’re the problem, sometimes they are. Which is how it goes in the show. Demonizing someone for being passionate and wanting to be happy is ridiculous.
What a horrible video.Wouldnt every human do that and be that and go through that...Imperfect ones atleast, madam butterfly?
I don’t think he’s a bad guy but he’s over obsessed with finding a romantic ending and finding the perfect girl. He wants to everything to occur poetically and perfectly and he constantly strives for it. I don’t think it makes him bad, he’s just immature.
Unfortunately the show doesn’t think so!
