As a youngster Ed Roth was one of my hero’s, I did his models etc. Then after becoming a Pinstriper, actually came home one day and my mother in law said “ somebody named Big Daddy Roth called you” I immediately said no way, it’s gotta be a prank call.. So I called the number and said who is this really?he replied “its Ed Roth” I responded “bullshit”, and hung up the phone…thank God he called me back, and said “ don’t hang up it really Ed Roth.. I replied “Oh my God I’m so sorry” he said where are you going to be next? He said “ I saw your pinstriping work, and need to film you doing it” next thing I know is I’m doing a bike show in Bakersfield and Ed shows up with Bob Spina as the cameraman , and after the entire place applauds him ,he films me pinstriping and tells me “ You have to come to the Rat Fink Reunion”

I'm 37 and Roth has always been an idol of mine growing up on the back of one of the VW trikes and being around and building them for all our friends and family. Which naturally led to appreciating the pinstriping, which then I learned who you were and about 8 years ago maybe, my uncle bought an 80's gold wing and the first time I saw all the custom pinstripe and scroll work on it blew me away and then I found your artist tag hiding on there and then all the scroll work made sense. Small world

I think you may be wrong about getting the Olds motor from Mickey Thompson if I remember correctly he got that motor from my Dad Les Dixon he drove car number 68 at Ascot park in Gardena CA. my Dad traded the motor that he put in the 2 wheel motorcycle for the pin striping on my dad's Harley he all so built a radio console and scoot boot for his Harley. I was born in 1955 too and big daddy gave me and my little brother a chrome German helmet. I remember him having a dog that he had to have his barking because of complaints about the barking. Good memories

I'm honored to have met Dennis and Ed in Chicago the year Dale Earnhardt signed autographs. My son stood in line and I hung around Roth's space and listened to stories. I was there when the guy came in with all the scale models of Ed's cars. Many fond memories of that day.

I met Big Daddy at our cars how in Lewiston Idaho, he autographed his picture I framed it had it in my shop on the wall for years. Then I had a shop fire it got destroyed of all the things I lost, which was almost everything ,losing that picture and autograph bummed me out the most! I loved Ed Roth he was my hero, im retired now in the Philippines 68 years old and Big Daddy was the best RIP friend.

If it wasn't for Ed "Big Daddy" Roth I wouldn't be the car/motorcycle (especially 3 wheelers) junkie I am today. I started with model cars and worked my way up to hot rods. RIP Big Daddy, you will always be number one in my book!

Ed and Larry Watson have always been the two most inspirational people to my life. Thanks to "Little Daddy" for keeping the magic and tradition alive, I'm trying to do the same for my Hot Rod family. 🖖 Roy was my Grandfather's best friend, the Bell info is correct, I have loads of photo evidence.

This production begs for more inserted photos ! I built every Big Daddy Roth model available and even won a First Place prize at out local 7-11 ! I grew up in the Auto Wrecking yards my family owned in Orange And LA Counties California and met most of the Automotive Artists of the times . Dad donated many parts . I didn't know that Ed worked at Knotts Berry Farm the same time I worked there ! I was honored to attend a Memorial for Ed Roth in Huntington beach in the parking lot of the Doughnuttery , the intersection of Adams and Magnolia . Thanks for the memories !

I was really into Big Daddy when I was a kid in the 60's. So much so that my folks let me draw Rat Fink, the Timing Judge and a few others on my bedroom walls and closet doors. I used permanent magic markers. 20± years they had to cut the drywall out because they kept bleeding through the primers lol they WOULD NOT BE COVERED!

Little daddy said 1955 was the greatest year for chevys 'so no doubt he would have dug ed's orange 55 chev with a 427 ci ford fe big block. Iv'e only ever seen one photo of it' it would be interesting to see more photos and info on it. Any chance of that mr Roth?🙂👍
