Because D&D isn't the only system, and in fact is one of the least well written TTRPGs out there. 5e is dominant, but by far from the best system out there.

Absolutely love how the creativity just seamlessly flows between them all and Robert just mentally sighing and going with it rather than what he had planned lol!

Was very happy that they stopped to do the glasses bit with Rowan and Alan. One of my favorite Bored moments. Can’t blame Rowan for not remembering, so I’m just happy Alan caught it!!

I really enjoyed how Ben's pic, name and shiny new "Helmsman" title popped up almost immediately after he made his uninformed decision. 🤣

According to the liner notes of the "Star Trek Sound Effects" album, the noise was an airgun played in reverse. Listen to the actual sound. There's a screech that sounds nothing like paper being pulled against paper.

I love how excited Rowan and Ben are. You can see it in their faces. I mean, Rowan actually said "I'm excited".

@@RobertHartleyGM This, for some reason, reminds me of the card game Doom Machine, aaaand Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic. The latter one was pretty straightforward. After playing IWD2, it was strange not having to calculate the damage potential in head, as they just simply did it for me :D That said, the guys are still not done with shouting over each other.

Does anyone really appreciate how insanely high Rob's IQ is and how awesome his creative brain is? To not only be able to create these worlds from the multiverse he has living in his head, he also has the ability to keep up with the quality and investment energy and fun in every single episode. I love the passion and how real everything always is with the campaigns, and it's nice to see how adaptable he is as a dungeon master. Major respect!!

What an amazing start to the show. I couldn't stop laughing the whole episode. I can tell this is gonna be a fun few weeks.

Adam roleplaying a timid person after watching nearly 150 episodes of him being Baradun... it just feels weird.

This is absolute chaos. This feels a lot like how home games go, when the homies all get together and suddenly the average IQ in the room drops by 20% but the fun goes up by the inverse square law.

7:40 Rowan has been to Azarim before; I would’ve loved to see Rowan’s character express anger/frustration towards Allen for trapping everyone in a video game instead of actually working. Awesome stuff still guys. Can’t wait to see new tavern!

Ben’s right, it was indeed worth it.

As usual, loved every moment. Also, mad props to the subtitle writer. I love the side notes and background details that go into so many clips VLDL makes. The subtitles nail it.

dont make a micro-seires out of it, this deserves a full roll-out. You're just great, guys. Bored got me to VLDL and seeing you guys performing a Bored/Startrek-RPG out of the box is simply amazing. I'm already addicted :)

How naturally they all just slide into the Bored characters. Alan and Rowan bickering, Bens on the fly complaints, Adam doing the thing with his hands. They just don’t leave character. Tells you how much they love the series and the characters within. So lovely to watch. Though I must say it’s hard trying to pretend I’m a mature serious adult at work with these middle aged men making fart jokes through my earbuds. It was an Alan level struggle to bit break into a giggle fit.

So excited to watch this, unfortunately at work will have to wait til later, sigh. My two favorite things D&D and Bored together at last. ❤

Tron was the original getting sucked into the game film, I hope they feature a lightcycle quest. The recent Jumanji films featured a console rather than trons arcade machine. Then there was an episode of Black Mirror called "USS Callister" that featured getting their minds copied and put into a game (Black Mirror is such a great show, it's on netflix and each episode is a different story about the what if of technology going too far) which also featured the game being a spaceship startrekish game.

I remember it. I never got to play it, but I knew someone who had, and he said it was really good. Just simple rules, and lots of scope for imagination. Tunnels and Trolls, too. So much was about having an imagination, back before video-games came along, and encouraged players to expect finite limits. A TTRPG really HAS no limits.... especially with VLDL on "Bored". 😁

The first gaming console was created in 1972... Magnavox Odyssey But the Atari console was released in the late 70's as consoles became cheaper and more affordable for the public

This new series seems like it will be really fun to watch. The first episode was great and it seems like the whole group is really enjoying it. Cant wait to see what happens next.

OK I've had a BLAST watching this!!! :D :D :D If this catches on and you end up continuing it after the first five episodes of course I'd love to see greenscreen parts as well, with Star Trek TOS-like uniforms (red shirts!!!), but this works incredibly well even without greenscreen because of the immersive acting at the table! Loved it!!

Agreed, I love the green screen stuff on NPC D&D, so seeing it with this RPG would be cool, also seeing 16bit characters too, even just a picture!!!

I love that Rob came up with his own system. There are a lot of small creators out there coming up with some great and innovative settings and systems. D&D is great, but getting other flavors (Cyberpunk, Sci Fi, Modern Fantasy) of TTRPGs is fun and refreshing.
