WKF is karate that is focused on its sport. different from traditional Karate. JKA is the largest and oldest Shotokan karate association in the world. in the JKA match using the traditional method of shotokan. every style of karate has kumite like JKA and also like WKF. So depending on which angle we look at the difference in style of play

"Modern" Shotokan (JKA) focuses on but a few hand/punching/kicking techniques, ignoring many others and incorporates but a few kicking techniques ignoring the other kicks. This has very much impoverished the art. That is why very-very-very few Shotokan (JKA) practitioners succeed in the Octagon bcse they ignore very effective punches strikes and kicks and instead focus on the few techniques which the referees like in the JKA (and WUKO) matches

You are correct in ur comment. I am a jka 4 Dan and former state and national champion . Kyokushin is better suited to karate combat Jka kumite is not karate. Neither is kyokushin kumite or any sport combat for that matter. To be sure kyokushin is better suited to full contact competition. Here is the difference though. Shotokan karate is a foundation karate and was not invented for completion. Furthermore real karate is actually not found in any competition of any style. Unless u have practised karate ( any martial art ) for 40 years like me u won't understand this Regards

Shotokan Karate is the grandfather of American Kickboxing, so technically, theres a lot of Shotokan Karate in Kickboxing and MMA and you don't even know brother. Anyways, JKA is about simplicity and effectiveness, as Bruce Lee used to said: "Do not fear the man who trains one thousand of techniques, but the man who trains one thousand times the same technique.". That means that have a very strong and accurate straight punch is more effective than a spining back shit that never land on target and even expose yourself for a counter. It means nothing to know a lot of techniques If you don't mastered those techniques.

@@TiagoPortas Allow me to clarify what I meant in my 1st comment : Modern Shotokan Karate AS USED IN COMPETITIONS only focuses on straight punches/zuki to the head/torso, ignoring strikes like Mawashi Zuki, Uraken Uchi, Shuto Uchi while for kicking techniques it only gives points to Jodan Ura Mawashi/hook kick & Mawashi geri/roundhouse kick to the head/torso while simultaneously ignoring Mae Geri (front kicks) , Yoko Geri Kaekomi (side kicks) , Ushiro Geri (back kicks) UNLESS a Japanese fighter comes along who incorporates a (formerly ignored) technique like f.i. Jodan Haito Uchi (ridge hand strike to the face) and then suddenly that technique is given points by the referee (for a few years...before beeing ignored again). This causes karateka's to only focus on training in techniques which referees like and ignoring other techniques which referees ignore thereby impoverishing the art

@@hagaibinsealtiel3745 look, i train ALL those techniques and, the way i know, no one JKA Dojo trains only what is allowed in competitions, actually only few JKA dojos even participate of competitions. You sound like someone who never walk in a JKA Dojo and all your knowledge about it come from internet and KZread videos.

Taekwondo and Kunfu are good for performance, similar to dance, beautiful in their ways but Karate for combats. japan has been famous for effective, practical martial arts for combats. show in 元寇 or 朝鮮征伐. so both are good in their own ways. if you like dancing go for the former.
