    I've found that both the SL-G700M2 and the SU-R1000 can be operated by Roon right now, as of this writing. It's a little inelegant, but running the USB cable directly from the components to the Roon core (an iMac in my case), and doing a little setup in Roon will allow you to play music and control the components with the software. With the R1000, you set it to "PC1" or "PC2." No Technics player app needed. With the SL-G700M2, you set it to "Chromecast built-in," (you don't need to enable the app or even use it though) then set up the device. It's a little weird with the M2...no Technics app needed but the unit's display is incomplete, and it downsamples the signal, but still works. With the R1000, it's flawless, and you can send it any format including DoP in its native sample rate all day...all the way up to DSD 256 without downsampling. I can't test DSD 512 since there's no ASIO version for Mac. EDIT: Now I kind of don't even need the M2 anymore 😆.

  • @stjernholmreviews

    Leeroy, yes you can always just connect a streamer that does Roon to the the amp, but it will always a extra step, and will not be able to control the volume in the optimal way. The direct built in Roon Ready support is almost always preferable.

    Hi Morten, love your reviews. I have a TDAI 3400 and looking to add a CD player (replace an Arcam CDS50). Did you use the G700Mk2 with your 3400 and if so how did it go?

  • @stjernholmreviews

    @stjernholmreviews

    7 ай бұрын

    Yes. We liked the neutral sounding TDAI 3400 converters quite a bit. But for some things in relation to the G700MK2, I would use both the balanced analog input AND a digital input, as some formats might sound a little better and with different texture when presented from the analog outputs of the 700. (will be converted again to digital in the 3400 for all its processing and so on being a digital amp, but its still like having two different signatures to choose from). The alternative would be to just get yourself a decent CD transport if you dont really require anything else than CD playing. Here you could look for a lyngdorf one if the integration is important to you or go for a clean, cheaper transport. With the 3400 the whole idea is to go digital right away, anyway. As always, just trust your ears in the end. Thank you for watching the channel! Keep those comments coming.

  • @leeroyjenkins8417

    Thank you Morten! Outstanding as always. You never disappoint. When sending DSD received in from USB-B over PCM to the amp, which cable are you using between the player and the amp? Toslink or coax?

  • @stjernholmreviews

    @stjernholmreviews

    Жыл бұрын

    None.. It is not possible to go digital, not even DSD to PCM. So users will have to go analog to the amp for DSD. The reason might be that it is a SACD player, and thus DSD is not allowed to move digitally….

  • @leeroyjenkins8417

    @leeroyjenkins8417

    Жыл бұрын

    @@stjernholmreviews Okay, I was wondering about that given the limitations of both Toslink and coax. Anecdote: What I tried to do with the DSD format actually caused the R1000 to glitch out. I loaded legitimate DSD 11.2 files to a flash drive, plugged it into the M2's rear USB-A port, then hit "play," sending the signal to the R1000 through coax. Well...the R1000 interpreted that signal as 176.4 kHz (direct enabled), and it WOULD play it, but if I tried to interact at all with the Technics app while playing the music, the R1000 would display "F61" and promptly shut itself off. On a separate note, can you give an example of the M2's preamp capability? I'm not sure I understand that piece. Thanks.

  • @stjernholmreviews

    @stjernholmreviews

    Жыл бұрын

    @@leeroyjenkins8417 That sounds interesting. I was not able to get any digital out when playing DSD files. The analog output of the M2 can be either FIXED or variable. When set to variable, you are able to use it as a preamp. It worked quite nicely, without volume jumps, noises, clicks or the like. So it felt good.

    Great review, indeed. How does this stand in comparison with Cocktail Audio when it comes to DAC performance? Does it play gapless music. I am reyconsidering this to potentially replace Marantz ND8006, especially because of the Chromecast option since some titles are available only on Bandcamp which does not support Upnp/DLNA. DAC section is very important to me as today I am using Hegel H190 internal DAC so wondering if the Technics will be a step up! Unfortunately, i did not test the gapless playback. There is a couple of owners in here, that might be able to answer that. In terms of the mk2 as a dac, it is insanely clean and detailed. It strips everything naked, where the cocktail is more velvet, the mk2 is absolute precision, with no real character like you typically have with marantz products. Check the sound segment for more on this, as there was a rocksters second opinion too.

    I just did a really quick test with the CD and 96kHz HDtracks versions of Tool's two songs Parabol and Parabola. When spinning the CD, the transition between the two tracks is as seamless as intended. When playing the digital files via USB-A flash drive, the transition is not gapless. In fact, one annoying thing about an otherwise wonderful player is the brief mechanical sound between songs when the source is USB-A. It's an improvement upon the original though, which was louder under the same conditions.

    Hi Rob. Always nice to be "summoned" 😄The most interesting thing in those two for me, would be to check out how far Yamaha has come in the future-fi department. The amplifier and analog side I know very well from the 3200 integrated that the N2000A builds on. I have and have used several RME products, that are very common in the pro world as well. The original "simple" ADI 2 lives in my rack and does A/D duties, and I also had a 2 FS for a long time. Those are really great converters, but the FS is annoyingly complex to use for most consumers, if they want to tap into all the features. I think the strongest use case for the 2 FS is for people that wants to be able to add DSP and L/R frequency corrections to headphones (like people with hearing loss on one ear). Has it got a web interface or a great app to control it in a faster, easier way now?
