Technics SL-1210MK2 vs1200MK7 can they hold a mix without drifting at all speeds

Музыка

In this video I play a same track on the MK2 and MK7 to see if the digital 0.02 pitch fader increments on the MK7 and analogue 0.000001 increments on the MK2 affects mixing. I play the same tune at the highest speed +8% to see if any drifting will occur for the whole length as you would expect it to with the increment differences. I then play another track mixed in to see if any drifing will occur or if they stay in beat for the whole tune. Check out the vid to see the results.

This is very interesting. I’m keen to buy a pair of 1210s but am put off by the suggestion that digital pitch faders are not able to provide sufficient resolution to always be able to get the perfect beat match (resulting in the need to regularly re-adjust would make me want to get older mk2 or mk5 models).

Have a look at this video. kzread.info/dash/bejne/gqmKz5KDpc6vmtY.htmlsi=COo8vLUx0Bvj6hZi it may give you an idea of how mixing is on the mk7. The mixes are roughly a minute long. That is the two tunes playing together for about a minute.

it may be that the pitch of the mk2 needs to be calibrated properly. Check if the platter's strobe dots lock based on the percentages written on the chassis

I sold my 16 year old 1200 mk2's 7 years ago to fund starting up on my own. I'm looking at buying a set of technics again as they've left a hole in my heart so these videos are great to see if I need to hunt for a mint mk2 set or chance it and buy a set of mk7 1200's.

@@martyncardno2172 I'll have another video up in the next day or two. I found a way to test which pitch fader is tighter. So I'll do that test plus compare the pitch faders with the strobe lights at +6 +3.3 etc.

I sent back the mk7s after I got them As the one row of dots on the platter should hold tight when at 3.3 But it had to be bang on about 3 to get the dots to hold still I knew strait away the pitch was dodgy BUT …for ripping vinly to WAV The mk2 had timing issues due to cogging and flutter when beatgriding the WAV file in Traktor Where as the rips on the mk7 bestgridded perfectly

There is a channel on KZread called Just Technics. In one of his videos he shows how to calibrate the mk7 pitch by pressing some buttons in a certain order and it works. It's by going in the service menu which he shows how.

@@Toskas I had the first generation of mk7s pretty much the 2nd they came out. I was backwards and forwards to technics and after them making me try all kinds of things like that it made no difference The black and gray one have the same faults which are a hardware issue The 2nd generation when they brought out the coloured limited editions I was told by technics would have this hardware issue rectified but I wasn’t willing to risk it It’s way better to get some mk2 or mk5 and get a pro service agent to upgrade a few components on the mainboard to stop cogging and flutter But the original mk7s will always have this fault as it’s a hardware issue Also, they are great for home use but the feedback in a club was a nightmare If anything I’d go for the new pioneers, but I can’t stand pioneers products

@@Toskas yep It will recalibrate But the dots and strobe will not stick at where they should be compared to all the predesessors After calibration you still have to put the pitch at 3 instead of 3.3 It’s almost like the pitch has a curve in it Also I would put timecode vinyl on it and watch where the pitch would be digitally in the software and they would not co-inside with each other accurately Where as a modded mk2 was perfect

You are correct. The first gen of the Mark 7 had pitch issues including the dreaded dead spot between 7 and 8%.. The Mark 7 from the Red Bull edition and later had the pitch sorted. Have you seen the video I posted after this one where I compare the pitch tightness of the 2 and 7? Soon I'll do a video of which turntable can handle louder volumes. Obviously it's going to be the 2 but it's good to have it on video.

@@Toskas the second I saw your video it reminded me of one i did I even sent the GR back as the platters where so poor My dots would pulse bigger and smaller as if they weren’t made by the same company that made the original platters Apparently all the platters for many of recent years turntables come from one company Relooop pioneer and the new technics decks have their platters made by the same place
