Thank god you guys made this. Perfect one stop shop for sand information.
Definitely what I wanted to learn more about now that Dune season is right around the corner. Can’t wait to meet some of y’all in camp rzr 👍🏽
Dune season is turning into snow season here in MI. Might have to take a trip to the west coast this winter Fo sure! Thanks gentleman for the great info!
Great vid Guys!
Great info. Thanks
Will say very happy with my sand slinger sport tires with metal fx wheels on my pro R the 33s seem sweet vs oem 32s they measure true at 11 psi
Your tire pressure vs traction video changed my life! The pack bounce on low pressure was a real thing, adding pressure made a huge difference in the "whoop bounce" on my scats.. HUGE!! 12psi was the magic number.

Bad ass man. So glad to help. 🤘🏻
Nice video. 👍
Love my STU 1300 #1 comp cut with the mohawk in the Oregon dunes. Cut Tribute fronts. Tried the higher pressures after your last video and 10-12lbs seems to works best for me. I do dial a little extra ride height in my ST sprung X3. Appreciate your videos. I measure to the tip too 😎🤙

Sandcraft Destroyers all day I run 32" 11 paddles on method wheels perfect for my 2020 rzr xp4 turbo super light weight
I run the SS360's on the front of my SxS and straight paddles on the rear. I really like the turning and traction combination I get from the 360's on the front. They also improved my SxS's ability to turn uphill.

Do the front tires kick up alot of Sand?
I am intrigued about the Vara-A-Trak tires from STU, but i cant find a single thing about it online. Would be cool to see it used and your thoughts.
That tensor tire was so bad on my pro r I sold them. Everyone was faster then me everywhere.
On my KRX I run the Tusk paddle 32" 8psi and that seems to work the best for me

Keep the air pressure above 10PSI or your shocks won’t have a handle to work properly on compression

@@ShockTherapyllc I'm in the same boat. Any verdict on this yet? Also in the video you say the Tensors are every bit of 33" but some others say they measure smaller? Have you actually measured them?
Great video guys, I really appreciate it. I just picked up my 2022 Pro r two seater. What setup do you recommend? I ordered some 30-30 10-in wide rims for the rear and 9 inch wide rims for the front. What tire setup do you recommend? I will be riding Winchester Bay and Glamis. Thanks in advance

Sand craft has a great package. The Tensors worked killer too.
I bought 32" paddles for a stock 17' XP4-1000. Have clutch kit for 32" dirt tires. Will the 32" paddles be too big regarding power and wear/tear on components? Can I trim the top of the paddles if I'm low on power?
@ShockTherapyllc
Жыл бұрын
Height is not an issue. Wear and tear is not an issue. Paddle height is the factor to work on. Just depends on what you have compared to the power you make
ST Needs to add a Polaris Race Car🤘🏼🇺🇸🤘🏼
So what happens if you don't add power but you drop a gear 🤔 can you run a bigger tire or paddles
@ShockTherapyllc

Dropping a gear is the same as adding more power.
Where in NC is your new shop going to be? I’m on the coast of NC and plan on doing some suspension upgrades to either my current XP4 Highlifter (trail use only….no mud) or I may sell it and go to a pro XP4 or turbo r4

I've spent decades running in Glamis on a built ATC250R, running Skat Traks. Recently got into SxSs, and have a 2020 Turbo RR, stock drivetrain. I'm leaning heavily towards the SS360s due to the predictable nature; I'm not interested in sliding. However, is the 195hp from my car enough for the 32" SS360 "HP" model in the rear, or is that too much paddle for the car? 2nd question: Air pressure for SS360s in the sand (Glamis)?
@ShockTherapyllc

Yes. Your power is perfect. That’s what Jon has who called in on those tires. 12-16 psi should be killer

I’ve ran the same setup for two seasons on a four seat model, love it for 95% of the duning experience. But, borderline spinning in certain areas. Recommend leaning towards some sort of a straight paddle. Just saying 🤷♂️
If you run a buff razor tire would you still have the car in 4wd or no?
@ShockTherapyllc
Жыл бұрын
Buffs have traction. That’s how they can turn. Obviously they don’t have as much bite as a paddle front tire does like a STU or an SS 360 but they have some. Try dining in 2 wd and 4 wd see which you like but 4 wd will always be faster.
How about importance of actual rollout and matching front vs. rear? Is this really not as critical as originally thought? I was shocked when measured my old STU's and found rears were 105in and front's were only 93in at 11 PSI in each yet ran these for many years and often in 4wd! Any further insight on this topic?
@ShockTherapyllc

From an engineering stand point it should be very important but in actuality there is very little traction on the front tires especially under acceleration and the front end is light. This makes roll out a small factor. My evidence is only that years and years of 4 WD driving in the dunes does not add load or any extra wear and tear on the front diff or drive lines. Just what I have seen 👍🏼

Most people don’t use them. Too heavy. Tire psi should be 10-14 psi
Will those tensors be a good choice for a stock Pro r4?

I have driven them and they work great on a four seater if it’s stock. But if you have a two seater (lighter) or a little more power the. You will need a little taller paddle. Tensor is working on those right now. Should be out soon

How did the tensor sand tires hold up at Glamis? Also- there is a lot of information in this video that is directly contradicted by the sand tire manufacturers you reference. For instance- running 10 psi+ is not generally recommended. STU and Tensor very regularly recommends 8-10 psi, it’s even on their website. Also- the width of the tire and traction is completely opposite of simple physics. Why does everyone run 10” plus rear wheels on vulcanized tires (specifically designed for straight line speed) if skinnier tires gives more traction? This is a common disagreement by Skat trak and sand craft, which is why you see skats have a wider and more square carcass than sand craft. I will not run sand craft for this exact reason. Just seems like a lot of BS being pumped out by shops that are making up their own narrative and not actually testing their tires with solid engineering principles.

Hi Drew. Great questions. What I say is nearly my opinion. Everyone has one. It is however gained from experience, testing and conversations with people much smarter that me. For instance, my air pressure theory. This is derived from testing and lots of conversation with Mark, former owner of Sand Tires unlimited. He is a huge proponent of higher air pressures no matter what may be on the site. I have tested pressures too and found that lower air pressure gains floatation which is not traction. That’s another misnomer “ traction” does not exist in the sand. “ acceleration” does. If floatation is not an issue “utvs don’t have this problem” then acceleration is gained through the proper balance between tire speed and sand displaced for a given horse power and weight. Lots of factors here. Too many to type. Round tires don’t slide like flat tires. This means if they cant slide all they can do is forward acceleration. This does not mean that round tires have better acceleration. Lots of factors here too. Too many to type. Real world testing is needed. Not much out there. Have to try yourself and see what you like. I love the Tensor so far. Best front tire I have tried. Killer rear for 185 hp utvs. Might be a little small of a paddle for 225 hp utvs. That’s the only thing I would like to see, more paddle choices in the Tensor. Hope that helps.

Appreciate you taking the time to respond. That’s definitely what I’ve been reading about the tensor- they can great for a stock 195hp can am but maybe not much over that. Now to decide between STUs and Skats.

@@ktmracr3 not to pick sides. But I run a STU #1 paddle with comp cut (like a lighter # 2 paddle) on the rear of my X3 that makes 230 hp. I am now testing that on my Pro R. Love it so far. Still Tensor fronts. 👍🏼
