    The gain should be tuned with a multimeter. It’s easy. The square root of your total wattage multiplied by ohms. Example: 1500W x 1ohm=1500. Square root of 1500 is 38.72. Hookup multimeter, turn your head unit to clipping(or 80%of max volume if you don’t know). Gradually increase gain until you meet the number(this case 38.72). If you don’t know the square root. Simply type “square root of _____” into google and you’ll get your answer.

So I’ve been researching and for equalizers so with that I can most likely be able to tune my radio to my door speakers and the eq for my subs right ? If I wanted to then add tweeters can I put them on the same eq even tho im not going to want the settings the same as my subs? With just having the tweeters for just highs and subs for just Lows and then door speakers ran off radio for mids

  • @Silentjustin06

    @Silentjustin06

    3 жыл бұрын

    The 29.61 hz your referring to is probably the fs of the sub. Which is what you use to help build a box specific for that sub. Almost every subwoofer should be set to 80-100hz. Your subwoofers should have a frequency response specification in the information that came with it. Probably somewhere between 30hz-300hz

    Its a 3/4 octave below tuning. So port tuning x .75 gives subsonic frequency to set too. Below that can cause loading issues and damage the sub. Nobody plays bass from a sub over 60hz, setting at 80hz is nonsense, 60-70hz is somewhat decent to give you overlay for when midbass drivers pick up.

    Dont shut it off. Just set the amp to 80z. Set the radio LPF to whatever you want. You said it has 80-120hz. 80-120hz is well within range for a subwoofer. The radio LPF is the master settings and will over ride the amp settings. If your radio gets messed with the amp settings will act like a safety

    When it comes to subs, u can find clipping points by ear very easily and reliably. But your 4 ch. I wouldn't recommend by ear. Always use multimeter on your 4ch. Since you have it out you might as well use it for the sub amp too.

    Like there's a right way and a wrong way to set gains by ear. The right way, is to play test tones and find every clipping point. The wrong way is to play music and use the gain as a volume knob. But having a multimeter is the most helpful tool you can have.

Your radio probably distorts about 35. I'd turn your amp settings all the way down. Bluetooth to Zero and turn the volume up 75% of the max your radio has. Slowly turn your gain up until it sounds like its distorting. Then back it down until it sounds good again. I would do highs first if you have a amp on them. HPF set to 150-200hz should be a safe crossover. Then do the same with your subwoofers. LPF should be at 80-100hz. The goal is to match the amp volume(gain) to the radio.

    Great video. "Trust Your Ears" cannot be stressed enough. You can get detailed and use a microphone, but I bet you will find it may NOT sound quite as good as the settings you choose using your ears, or change the crossover setting on your amp much at all. Regarding the low pass filter at 80 HZ. That's too low if you wish to get a good bass drum sound as bass drums have frequencies generally 100-150 HZ. I would recommend something around 120 HZ if your subwoofer can handle that frequency. When purchasing a sub, finding one capable of 200 - 250 HZ is highly desirable if you wish for your subwoofer to be more "musical" in nature. That means you need to have an amplifier capable of a LPF in that same 200-250 HZ range. This will give you a tight hitting subwoofer without the muddy ooze found in so many other people's subwoofers. It's good to have a speaker driver capable of playing a higher frequency even if you do not plan on using that speaker at its top frequency. So getting a sub that can go to 250 HZ, but setting the low pass filter at say 120 HZ means you are not taxing the speaker. You are playing it right in the middle of its capabilities, the "sweet spot" so to say. This is also true for tweeters. Buying tweeters with a top frequency above 20,000 KHZ like 25,000-30,000 KHZ means that you will not experience distortion because again you are not pushing the speaker at its top capability. It's when a speaker is pushed to its limit that you end up with distortion. In all audio, it is nice to give yourself some room, or excess capability with your speakers, and then only use 70-80% of that capability for a better all around sound in your system, as well as longevity of the speakers. Theoretically speaking. lol. (but honestly, no BS). PS you should for the most part when purchasing a subwoofer to find one capable of below 40 HZ if listening to electronic EDM music for the best experience.

    On a Subsonic Filter 20hz - 50hz What would it be at 12:00 position? 35hz? 20+50=70hz 70/2= 35hz Thanks for anybody that can’t help me figure it out.. Also, LPF 20hz - 200hz Half way would be 110hz and 9:00 position being 55hz?

    Subsonic means filtering out inaudible frequencies, not audible ones. That's why you filter them, you can't hear them anyway, so why waste excursion or power on them?
