Tech Talk: Explore AN-X

Ойын-сауық

The AN-X engine brings analog sound to MONTAGE M. An AN-X Part has three oscillators, a noise generator, five waveform choices, pulse width modulation, oscillator self-sync and much more. Adding MONTAGE M’s Motion Control system offers classic sounds with modern modulation and control. We explore the AN-X engine in this MONTAGE M Tech Talk.

Looking forward to the potential of importing custom waveforms support to the three oscilators. That would take it to the next level!

Finally, someone giving an in-depth look into AN-X editing, thanks! One question: When you edited the sound with the subscreen, you were continuously hitting the same note. Does editing not affect the note that is currently played? So, can't you just hold a note and edit the tone, like you could with an analogue synth?

Awesome engine! 🎹👍 But I continue dreaming about the AN-X engine also for MODX+ as an update. Think, it's possible... And, maybe, new black UI from Montage M... And drum machine function with step sequencer)) Thank you, my fav Yamaha!

They ahould definitely do it. You have the MX range which is the equivalent of the cs1x from back in the day. The modx sits at a similar price range as the an1x did back in the day.

There is no real AN-X. Or to say it another way, the Montage M AN-X is the real AN-X.

I don't know why it took Yamaha decades to do what Korg has done so long ago.

Very , very booooring and 1995. Yamaha need to up the game! For example where are the EX, VL1, CS70M, TX81z, SY99,VP1, etc models?

  • @AudioAtmos

There’s no need for something like the VL-1 or VP-1 with the amount of AWM memory and the number of elements possible in a part. The amount of acoustic expression that can be achieved with the Montage M is light years beyond those solutions. Not to mention what can be done with the other engines combined. You walking rain clouds need to get a little smarter otherwise you really just look sort of moronic.

@@supercompooperyou have to remember Yamaha has primarily been a workstation keyboard company for the last God knows how long - they feel like they need to slowly reintroduce this stuff to their audience who have been programming with AWM2 which is complete ass.

it was the right move to attack the weakness of the montage by adding an analog engine. however, it still does not sound like an organic analog instrument. how could it? it is digital at the end of the day. if the next montage would integrate a 2 or even 3 osc analogue module, it would probably be the greatest synth ever made. behringer is producing analog gear for a very low price, yamaha would definitely be able to do the same. a six voice native analog module with a cs like filter in combination with fmx and awm would be the game changer. anx is a step in the right direction but it will never replace a true analog unit when it comes to sound quality and organic behavior. anx is not bad, but endless editing possibilities are not that important if it does not sound organic at the end. the sequential take 5 is a good example for a modern native synth that is no "cheap" replica of a classic synth. it sounds amazingly alive and rich, the korg minologue is another good example for a real analog unit that is still affordable. imagine a montage with a real analog engine that sounds like signature yamaha with the aftertouch. i am sure that yamaha would be capable of producing a unit that sounds spectacular even if it does not come quite close to a vintage cs synth. pretty sure that customers would spend a few hundred bucks extra to have "real" analog yamaha sound on board of the montage. great video though, i will buy the m8x when its released in germany, hoping that the montage will have a full analog unit inside with the next generation👍

@AudioAtmos that must be the reason why music sounds so much better nowadays compared to the 70s and 80s right? if you are not able to hear the difference in quality between a cs70m and the an-x engine, why the hell do you even open your mouth from your high horse speaking down to other people?

Please add the an-x engine to the ModX range with half the poliphony please! Apart from awm vs awm2, there isn't much difference between the MX range and the ModX range. The modX range NEEDS AN-X engine please!! With half the polyphony compared to the montage range
