@@jdez2701 Projects help tremendously, focus on how YOU were able to contribute to the projects completion and also your role in solving any issues that have come across. Get into the practice of documenting everything, from the software being used, to your daily accomplishments, this will give you a reference when being interviewed. I sincerely hope this helps you, feel free to reach out if you'd like more advice.

@@jdez2701 kevtech's IT youtube page, on playlist look for active directory, do the labs, and learn a little about SCCM/MECM- is just a remote software. then you can put it in project section on your resume. couple interview ask what I did during my freetime how i learn. I just said i spent about an hour a day learning, doing projects. also if you want a job in hospital IT, learn a little about citrix workspace- basically just remote apps nothing crazy. they usually ask wat you do on your free time. you wanna frame that you enjoy learning tech an hour a day. also watch professor messer a+ videos. you'll learn good amount that's related to level 1 suport

This is a really good video! Coming into the IT field after 20 years in the military is tough. I got my A+ and Net+ and will get my Sec+ after a little break but trying to get that entry level job is tough. I’ve had one interview for a help desk job and may have another coming soon thanks to networking. All this to say, there is definitely not one answer to get in, you just got to keep your head on a swivel, consume all the content you can, and grow your way into the space.

I like the guest's humility, but I am going to add a few things: Many job postings have a high likelihood of being fake. I am seeing some be more reasonable but they are still very much the exception rather than the rule. And they get literally thousands of applicants. So it is still a problem Maybe this is mentioned but don't discount small companies. The hiring people often aren't or can't be as divorced from reality as like at the big companies Look for tech meetups in your area and go to those. Going to one of those is better than a hundred job applications, but only if you actually get to know people. Don't go just to collect names and linkedin connections.

I'm transitioning from the construction field and want to work in SECOPS but know I need to get some type of experience and to stay motivated making the switch. I hear ally types of things like you are wasting your time and you can take the Sec plus yet you need to have experience 1st or have a Sci Tech degree. I've heard others say in the IT field of its a cert and market driven field now. I try not to listen to the noise and press on. Appreciate your content and motivation to help out.

It's true that many certifications is frowned on. It often leads to the rejection pile, and I disagree with the heuristic. I've seen it happen numerous times that the person with fewer certs is selected simply because they have fewer certs. I've seen it that two coworkers would be up for the same job, and the one with less experience gets selected because of fewer certs. I've even seen teammates get hired because they failed a cert and "trying and failing is an admirable quality, it shows perseverance" while another candidate had the cert that the person failed but doesn't get the favorable nod

@@emmanueldark993 in the video around 26:30 he said "10." For me I'm at over 30 at this point. I get scoffed at for it and the assumption is "no practical skill, just good at tests." And numerous times I've had people downplay my experience due to having certs as a way to validate their disdain. For example "yea but you have no experience" I reply, I've done a lot with a home lab, they reply "a home lab isn't real." me: I bought enterprise grade equipment (multiple proliant servers and also power edge servers, enterprise level cisco and juniper equipment, created an actual home domain, etc)

this is the main issue with todays job force. those of use who want to get ahead or do other career paths cannot because we do not have the experience in the field nor do we have the money to spend on doing these projects. and most of us in the Gen Z crowd do not want to slave away at some company for 10 years at 40+ a week to barely make money.
