Tech Insight: the Features of the Ferrari 499P V6 Combustion Engine
With the advent of the top class known as the “Hypercar”, prototypes competing at the highest level of endurance racing can have a hybrid powertrain that combines an Internal Combustion Engine - ICE, transmitting torque to the rear wheels, with a front axle-mounted Electric Recovery System - ERS. To create the engine of the 499P, Ferrari took advantage of experience in both racing and road-going cars. From the V6 platform used for the 296 GTB, Prancing Horse's engineers derived the engine for the 296 GT3 and, with appropriate modifications, the unit for the 499P. The 499P is an amazing masterpiece of engineering and technology but I really wish that FIA would raise the maximum limit of horsepower from 670 hp to at least 800-850 hp. The F1 cars are using 1000+ hp so it would make more sense if the WEC Hypercars could use at least 800 hp.
Would love to see a glory run of the 499p with unrestricted energy deployment of 1000 HP.😍
