Mirror mirror is a piece of spoken word accompanied by physical theatre, featured in Ella Dorman Gajic's 'Did I Choose These Shoes?' - a thought-provoking spoken word show exploring the themes of feminism, media, love and nature vs nurture. Told through a series of poetic narratives, this performance focuses on the struggles of growing up in the 21st century and the choices on offer for young women. Deals with topics such as objectification, empowerment, dodgy periods and ill fitting shorts. Through the exploration of different characters, we see how gender stereotyping can dictate the self worth of both men and women. Did we really choose the shoes we walk in? Or are we just following the paths that have been marketed to us? Incorporating elements of film, music and physical theatre by Niamh Brangwyn and Rosie Austin. After winning an award from The Pebble Trust, this show has achieved a sell out house at the Brighton Fringe and now comes to London for the first time.
Ella is a 19 year-old emerging spoken word poet and actor who has been performing around Brighton and at festivals. Her writing expresses strong political and social messages that reflect the lives and struggles of real people growing up today.
