@@Idontknowmaybejohnsmith I agree 80s music is really amazing. But if you take the time to look around at the music today it's really amazing. So many talented people. Especially a lot of younger artists who could've never made it before but can publish and even record their own stuff now because of the technology improvements. 2010s we're pretty bad for music but 2019-now has been quite amazing I think. Have you ever heard romantic homicide? Street that you live on? Sunset by the midnight? There's some really great stuff
The best part about this song, is it doesn’t get old. It just gets better with each listen.

Im 50 now and the 80s is like some wondrous dream I woke up from early and wish I could fall asleep and return to. I know the worlds needed to move on in the decades since, and not everyone sees it through rose colored glasses, but what an absolutely magical time. It was all like some dream. If time would have just stood still in those magical times. I am 60 now, but I look back on the 80's as the time I really grew up. I graduated high school in '79, but I had the best years of my life in the 80's! I think back on those years with such a variety of emotions. Sometimes this music brings me back to that time in my life and I feel so sad that those times are gone. Some of the people are gone forever, some are still around, but we've all moved on and hopefully look back fondly on these memories. I miss those days...best years of my life!
A classic! Loved the 80s. Best time to grow up, for real! ❤
The '70's and '80's rule the music industry even more so than the '60's, for different reasons. The '80's was the MTV generation and made music so accessible.

@bluebirdconundrum

Back in the day, Curt Smith seemed to get a bit more publicity as the "lead" in Tears For Fears, but I have always thought that Roland Orzabal is both the more talented musician and the better singer. This is not to take anything away from Smith, but in modern performances the mild deterioration of Orzabal's voice - which is obviously understandable - noticeably reduces the richness of the band's vocals. I think it is amazing that they still perform with the quality that they do, but Orzabal's voice had an unmistakable resonance that simply can't be replaced.

I went to see Tears For Fears in Detroit when they reunited for the Everybody Loves A Happy Ending tour. Not only were they amazing, they sounded great, put on a great show, played their hits & some other stuff, but it was one of the best shows I've been to. After the show I went out back. I had bought a poster of them that they were selling at their merch booth & thought I'd try to get it signed. Not long after, Roland & Curt came out & were super nice to the fans that were waiting. I got my poster signed by both of them & pictures with each of them. I was so excited cause I had such a bad year before this. I had lost my father to pancreatic cancer a few weeks earlier, & suddenly I was transported back to 1985, when my dad bought me the Songs From The Big Chair cassette. They were so nice & humble & it is a memory I will never forget. That is why I'm still a fan until this day. As a side note I love this song.

"Head Over Heels" I wanted to be with you alone And talk about the weather But traditions I can trace Against the child in your face Won't escape my attention You keep your distance with a system of touch And gentle persuasion I'm lost in admiration Could I need you this much? Oh, you're wasting my time You're just-, just-, just wasting time Something happens And I'm head over heels I never find out 'Til I'm head over heels Something happens And I'm head over heels Ah, don't take my heart, don't break my heart Don't-, don't-, don't throw it away Throw it away Throw it away I made a fire, and watching it burn Yeah, thought of your future With one foot in the past Now, just how long will it last? Now, now, now, have you no ambitions? (Mm, what's the matter with my) My mother and my brothers used to breathe in clean air (Nothing ever changes when you're acting your age) And dreaming I'm a doctor (Nothing gets done when you feel like a baby) It's hard to be a man when there's a gun in your hand (Nothing ever changes when you're acting your age) Oh, I feel so Something happens And I'm head over heels I never find out 'Til I'm head over heels Something happens And I'm head over heels Ah, don't take my heart, don't break my heart Don't-, don't-, don't throw it away And this is my four-leaf clover I'm on the line, one open mind This is my four-leaf clover La, la, la In my mind's eye La, la, la One little boy, one little man La, la, la Funny how time flies

Lol it absolutely can, it's just gated reverb which was accidentally discovered when I believe the drummer for the Eagles played drums during advertisements of a radio show they were on, and the vocal mic which was outfitted with a gated reverb picked it up and someone listening liked the sound. it went on to define the 80s, and is still commonly used today just not as exaggeratedly.

So my wife and I are almost 40, and somehow missed Donny Darko- just discovered it this year. How could we have missed it!?!?
I was in my early 20's when this song hit the charts. At the time, watching this video on what was then a novelty - "MTV," and seeing that last scene of the married couple in their old age, I thought - "How sweet. Someday, far, far away, that will be me and my wife." Now, near 61 years old, I realize that it's really not "funny how time flies." To all of you young people: enjoy your precious youth, my friends. Hold it more precious than gold, because "it slips away - like dust in the wind."

I don't mean to be a spoilsport or anything but I don't think it is helpful for anyone to fetishize one generation or another as being superior to the others. I personally love 80s pop culture, movies, and music, but the 80s had its fair share of struggles and strife. A lot of the wars were still fighting today were born from conflicts that began in the 80s and earlier. During the 80s everyone thought that the world was going to be imminently ending in nuclear fire from the conflict with the US and Soviets. They used to have kids do nuke drills in school. Definitely not like it wasn't just as terrible in the 80s as it is now, you were just a child then so you don't remember the bad, you remember being a child.
