Teardrop Camper Build: Let's put on the Filon!- Part 14

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I've been apprehensive about how to put the Filon siding on the camper, ready or not here I go... I've seen some people spray the adhesive on, but I'm going to roll it on. Lets see how it goes...

Nice job! I built the same camper in March of 2021. Had a lot of people say not to glue the Filon, but I believed Oregon Batman. I didn’t use the 3m adhesive but instead found a local product Wilson 600 . Basically the same ingredients and mine had held up very well. No bubbles, warps ect. You picked a good glue. Thanks for sharing your videos. John H

I always put two coats of adhesive on the wood. The adhesive can really soak into the wood and give you an adhesive starved surface.

Coming together and looking real good! Once you get all the filon on, set it in the sun for a while and let it warm up, then take that roller over it again to get it pressed down tight. It'll last for a long long time! :)

Hey Steve, Great video. What's it been about 3 -4 weeks now? how has the 3M 1357 been holding up, any pockets, bubbles, or separation? I'm about to do the same to a wall I replaced and ordered Bender's adhesive but after watching you use the 3M 1357, the process is much easier than the Benders but just want to be sure it's a good adhesive for Filon going on Luan. Thanks

Hi Fred, it has been on for over a month and it's good shape. I did double coat the luan because it seemed to be too dry with one. When I did the the roof section a few weeks later I only did one coat (I was running short on the expressive product) it it seems fine too. I hope it all works out for you. -Rincon Steve

Looks like it’s been at least a year since the build. Has the 3M1357 been heat cycles in the weather? How is it doing? I’m considering using it instead of the Stabond T440c which is hard to get and $$$$. Great video, Thanks!!

It is doing ok. The hatch has ripples when it gets hot pretty bad. If I were to do it again, I would I would buy the best adhesive possible and make sure I had plenty. I would coat everything twice before adhering. I was always a little short. Sides have held up great, curved areas show ripples in heat at times, when coo,l they lay down.

Hi Daniel. Gluing directly could be an option in some cases. In this design I had to be able to cover the ends of the roof spares that sit on top of the first piece of plywood with more then just the filon.
