Thanks for the detailed teardown! It would be nice if you could also look at the USB connector. Dell is doing something proprietary with their chargers and others have found that replacing the USB connector on the end does not let it charge correctly. Perhaps you could see if there is a proprietary chip on the USB-C side that could be taken off and soldered to the new USB-C cable.

I currently have 3 of these units where the cable from the charger to the laptop is damaged, and it is this cable that I need to replace. In order to open this without damaging the outer casing with a "Dremel" tool, slide the blade of a screwdriver (or a "Stanley" knife blade between the end cap at each end of the unit and the body of the outer casing and ease all the way round to loosen. Do this at both ends and then ease the end caps out. At the mains end, there is part of the heat sink which you can then use to lever out/push out the transformer. The unit will then slide out of the casing relatively easily and will not be damaged. Now all I need to find is a replacement cable with a USB type C on the end of it. Thank you for the insight offered on what's inside the unit, it's helped me figure out how to open it without damaging the casing.

I find that gently squeezing the end that you're trying to open with a vice opens the gap up so its much easier to get the blade in and pop open the case. I have three dead ones that I'm trying to fix. Not the most reliable power supply.

@@BravoMx Would it not be as simple as cutting off the old end, soldering the wires together and heat shrink it together, that way you don't need to open the charger at all? I did it with a non Dell cable with an E Marker chip off Amazon and it would not power neg the current so it would not go over 5volts. I put this down to not having the dell chip.

I really enjoy your videos, your detailed explanation of the chips and how frecuently upload new vídeos. It’s difficult to learn about chargers but you make it easy. I would like to see a video about making your own gan charcher, making like an open source charger that you could download the pcb and send it to print. It also could be modular, depending of what are your charghing needs make it bigger or smoller and print the case with a 3d printer. That would be awesome. Love your videos carry on :)

@bigbrobropro2152 : So what kind of a charger are you trying to use. If it is a dell intelligent charger then I doubt that it will work as it sees no communications to it so it's output stays at zero volts. The usb-c plug of the charger also has some little circuit in it to which I am not sure what it is for. Just use a switching power supply instead with an output no higher then 24 vdc as you can adjust them down to almost 20 vdc.
