Teardown and Repair of a Galaxy's Edge C1-10P Droid

My C1-10P droid from Galaxy's Edge has always had an issue with its head. Whenever reacting to a beacon the head would turn all the way to its left and then get stuck there when it should normally turn back to its right. In this video I take apart my droid to try and solve the problem with Chopper's head which includes using an undocumented debug mode that is built into all Galaxy's Edge droids to verify the issue and whether or not the repair worked.

    I think the best thing I learned from this report, besides the "test mode" is the proper way to reinsert a screw into a plastic socket. I know I have double threaded some in the past. I also noticed two other things, the first being that the legs seem to have five electrical contact points while the options socket just have three. The other is that it appears that the leg cover panels are still inside choppers head.

    Love your work on the galaxy edges lightsabers. I believe what you call a brush, is a wiper. This looks to be a rotary potentiometer, similar to what is used in game controller joysticks. I've replaced many of them, and is seems that they tend to wear down easily. Hope this helps.

    How vary informative.....I Was hopeful to find someone like you doing a detailed deconstruction of a Droid. I'm looking to modify my Droid myself and wanted to find some tech specs. You mentioned a discord group would you be possible to post their link. Please and thank you. 😎

    Do you know of any videos that show us how to clean the rollers on the feet of an r unit? I just got one and it keeps picking up hair off my floor. I'm afraid it will damage the motor.

    Can you please do a video on repairing a Wheel of a r2 series droid ( for example if hair gets wrapped around a axel and have to take it apart, or if one of the wheels stop moving) I would really appreciate it there’s 0 videos on KZread on how to fix it!

    if you remove the leg from the body and look on the side of the leg that faces towards the body you will see 4 screws around the wheel housing. Remove those 4 screws and the inside half of the wheel cover will come off. that's about as deep into it as you can go to clean any debris from the wheel. one side of the wheel shaft is exposed and easily cleaned. The other side of the wheel shaft has very little access. Perhaps with some small tweezers and maybe a hobby knife you could get in there and pluck out bits of debris. But to fully clean it you would need to somehow remove the wheel itself. I believe it's a friction fit, but to pull the wheel you would need something like a wheel or bearing puller to get it off. I'd start with just seeing how much you can clean out by taking out those 4 screws. You could go further, into the gearbox itself, but if it's hair, it'll be around the wheel shaft and not inside the gearbox.

    You did a video on micro arcade secret hidden games. How did you solder something so small? Can you show your process? I tried and completely destroyed it. Can you share your tools and techniques?

    I have two micro arcade videos. I do show my process in the first one which you can see here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qmiWpJWoj9G3fNo.html i find a lot of problems are caused by the kind of solder used. i prefer a 63% tin, 37% lead solder with a rosin (flux) core. i specifically use Kester brand solder (www.amazon.com/dp/B00068IJWC/), but I do not think brand is too important. Although if it's solder that you received bundled with a soldering iron, especially if it's a Chinese made iron, you probably want to throw it away regardless of what it claims to be. I also use extra flux. flux is your best friend. It helps to reign in solder. I use both flux pens (www.amazon.com/dp/B07B53LNGX/) and flux in a syringe (www.amazon.com/dp/B00CM2A97S/), usually no-clean flux so if I don't want to clean the board I'm working on, I don't have to. There's really no such thing as too much flux. To clean up extra solder off the board I use solder wick (www.amazon.com/dp/B0195UVWJ8/), which is a copper braid (sometimes) infused with flux. Place the solder wick over the pad(s), press down on it with your iron, and the solder will melt and be wicked up into the copper braid. Last is the iron tip itself (components101.com/articles/commonly-available-types-soldering-iron-tips-and-which-one-should-you-choose). My main soldering iron has the ability to change tips. If I know I'm working with something especially small I will change the tip on the iron to a conical shaped tip with a very small point, but for most of my work I use a long, narrow, beveled tip, which is what I use in the video I linked to earlier.     This is off topic of the debugging but my droid will be my first mod, and the main thing I want it to do is follow me as I walk around. I know there is something called Arduino that you can get a GPS module for, but I have no clue how to hook them up to my droid!!! I have yet to see this done and would love some advice? Thank you!!!

    there's no quick and easy solution for what you're trying to do. you'll have to make your own solution. i think you should start with getting familiar with arduino. watch a couple intro to arduino videos on youtube. go online to amazon and pick up an arduino starter kit, and start playing around with it. watch some more youtube videos. make some LEDs blink. maybe buy an arduino sensor kit that'll come with a dozen or more different sensors. try hooking some up to the arduino and make them do stuff. more youtube videos. doing this will help you get comfortable working with arduinos, with sensors, with programming. maybe start looking at line-following robot kits, maybe something specific for arduino. watch youtube videos about the subject. make one. at that point you'll have a pretty good idea of what you can accomplish and you might start trying to prototype (by modifying the line following robot) how you might make the droid follow you. and GPS might not be the answer. you might start looking at raspberry pi and using a camera to track your movement (an arduino isn't powerful enough to do this, you'd need a raspberry pi). there's a lot of different ways to approach making a droid follow you. there's no one answer. and i haven't tried it myself so i can't really say how to proceed. that's something you'll need to figure out.

    you will need to power the droid off, then on again to take it out of debug mode. once that is done, the remote will work with the droid.
