it would be very useful to see you rebuild one of these, and particularly how you bleed the shock, manual hand bleed or vacuum bleeding. maybe a video on both to compare and contrast the differences.
So incredibly helpful to learn this, THANK YOU!!!
Even though the shock is damaged it would still be cool to see you rebuild it (with the used o-rings not new obviously). It's always been the rebuild that has caused me trouble in the past. I'm so careful to not scratch the innards I take way longer than you but all I can think is I still must have scratched something or nicked an o-ring where the air can screws in and the oil/grease is forced out when I pump it back up.

Just need sharp/crisp needlenose pliers...mine weren't "grippy" enough so I modified them for the job.
Thanks great vid. Really needed the extra help . Why rockshox does not tell you everything????? How long does it take you to do a complete rebuild ? What do you charge ? Thanks!!!

It takes a ton of time writing instructions, making videos, etc. There's always gonna be some stuff that can only be learned from doing over and over and over... A full rebuild on one of these is usually around 90 minutes, depending on how dirty it is or how many hours on it. I charge $150 labor and the seal kits are around $57.
3:20 how do you remove the c clip washer? Are you pushing down on it or prying it upwards the lip? This c clip washer is not plastic which makes it hard to pry out. Your hand was in the way during the recording and the camera man didnt focus the lenses

It's hard to remove for a reason, 250psi! You can gently use a metal pick to pry it up, I use a Schrader core tool to push it down, but I'm SUPER CAREFUL to not scratch the inner bore of the reservoir body.
Hi! Why could shaft with piston go up and down during bleeding with high amount of resistance? Pressing down is much easier, because you can press it with your weight, but pulling it down nearly imposible.

It might have a light compression tune with a heavy rebound tune.
Great video! Could you also discuss popular issues with this shock and how to solve them. It looks like there is air in oil in rebound assembly. Which o-ring is responsible for this issue and how i can solve it? Thanks!
@ButterSuspension

There are 5-6 o-rings that "could be" the cause of air into the damper oil, but most likely it's at the main seal head/damper shaft or on the IFP. Both come in the full 200 hour kit and a full rebuild with all new seals and oil/grease will solve any issues.

Awesome videos! I'm in the middle of rebuilding an rc3 plus. I took the rebound assembly apart to replace the orings and thought I put it back together correctly but when I went to bleed the air out I couldn't pull the shaft past half way. It was hydraulically locked. Any thoughts? Blue center shaft is in place and all. Did I put the check plate on backwards? Thanks!!!

Most likely the rebound "needle" was pushed all the way in (full slow rebound) before the bleed. If it's not adjusted all the way fast before you take it apart it won't bleed right. I need to make a video just about rebuilding the rebound adjuster...

@Butter Suspension that was absolutely the issue. It is bleeding normally now. Thanks again!!!
I have just ourchased a second hand frame that came wirh this exact shock after bukding the frame up, I noticed the shock make a sqelching type soind on compressing and decompressing. Is it normal for it to sound that way is it the air passing throughout the system? Or do i have a leak somewhere maybe? I have serviced my own front forks before and never had thay sound beforenor after.
@ButterSuspension

Not normal, most likely has air in the damper. Used suspension almost always needs to be rebuilt, so I'd look into buying the tools and seal kit or sending it off for service.
i have a 200mm x 55mm travel rockshox monarch. Is it possible to reduce the travel to 50mm without affecting the shock length?
@ButterSuspension
2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can put a 5mm travel spacer on the damper shaft to limit travel. Since it's only limiting shock travel it doesn't change the eye to eye measurement, but it can only be installed during a full rebuild.
Do you know which seal would cause all the oil to come out of the air valve?
@ButterSuspension
Жыл бұрын
The valve core itself has a small rubber seal. Valve cores are replaceble, so you can either check to make sure it's tight, or just replace it. Additionally, the valve tube that the valve core sits in usually has a small oring as well, but it's less common for those to fail.
Mine is brandnew and is leaking a bit of oil on the shaft after every hard drop. Is this normal?
@ButterSuspension

Yes. Almost all air shocks come with both grease and oil inside the air can for lubrication; it will take a few rides for the oil to stop weeping. You can just wipe it off after every ride until it stops.
I have an issue with my rc3 sticking or sucking down every once in a while. Seems like I roll an oring in the outer can? And all the negative pressure sucks my shock into itself. Any tips on how I can keep this from happening? Thanks 2016 santa cruz bronson

When was the last air can service? It does seem to happen more with Monarch air seals...an air can service should solve the issue. Just be sure to grease the o-rings and I put a thin film of grease on the inside of the outer can so the o-rings don't roll...

@@ButterSuspension the can was serviced last year and this started happening shortly after. I've done what you have said and it does last quite awhile. It's definitely due for another service. Thanks for the tip.

There could be many reasons why there's bouncing, without seeing it i'm not sure I can help. Does it have any rebound control at all when you adjust the knob?
