I don't get what's hard to understand about the NBA not being the world championship. Europe has BY FAR the best soccer teams. And yet, when you win the Champion's league you're not declared world champ. And then the winning club goes to play the world championship, they usually play the substitutes, and they usually still win. It doesn't matter that you're better, you still have to win the games.

Their players and their insurance money.................................................. I don't know, but definitely would be an idea, however both NBA & FIBA have slightly different courts and rules, would they be able to agree? Also how to split the revenues? Currently not even EuroLeague take part in this, only second best European teams and also *NBA G League teams* . This is due to FIBA and EuroLeague and their unresolved dispute.... Recently they have started to include teams from Africa and Asia. "The champions of the Basketball Africa League (since 2022) and the FIBA Asia Champions Cup (since 2023) also receive a place in the tournament. FIBA has in the past announced plans to expand the tournament to possibly include the champion teams from the Australian National Basketball League (NBL), and possibly the NBA, at some point in the future."

@@samuelwallace2782 and it's wrong. The NBA champs can't be best in the world until they beat the best team from Europe. GSW were by far the better team in the NBA, but they didn't become champs. Phoenix in 22, 23, Heat in 11 and 14, and so on. Having the best players doesn't automatically make your team better as a while. It's been said many times - basketball is a team sport, and you don't win rings by just having best 2-3 players. Teamwork, chemistry and strategy are just as, if not more l, important to the team success. Lithuania just showed you guys that a very limited roster can win with good strategy and use of their advantages. Yes, it got close and the US team will probably win next time, but if you asked before the game which squad will win 99% would probably choose the US. So until the NBA champs beat a European champ they can't be considered world champs. It would be great to have an intercontinental cup, like in soccer, where different approaches could clash and everyone could benefit from it.

Who gave these so called 'anlysts' a 'job'? 'Loud mouths empty brain...' That being said we all know that in order for Lithuania to win this game they had to play a perfect match and all the stars had to be aligned at the same time. To achieve this victory against such a talented USA team with 12 NBA players... It's unlikely Lithuania is gonna manage to repeat it again any time soon, but that is exactly the reason why everyone is hyped and celebrating at the moment in Lithuania after 7 years without wining any medals at internatiinal level. Even if Lithuania doesn't win medals this year it's still acceptable outcome for us since this date that we beat team USA is going to be remembered and marked as an achievemt in our basketballs history. Nyles is actually 100% correct. It doesn't matter if US players are the best. It's still not a world championship if you are limiting the competition to only 1 country. For it to be a true world championship, there would have to be a competition with every other country in the world.

2008 Redeem Team beat Australia by 21, beat Argentina by 20, and beat Spain by 11. They may not have toyed with opponents to the level DT 1&2 did, but a 17.3 ppg margin of victory is't terrible.

Spain was in the game till last 2 minutes, you obviously didn't watch that game. Wade and Kobe hit some clutch shots to secure that win. Also 2 years earlier, that same team (minus Kobe) lost to Greece in Semi Final of World Cup. So no, neither American team came close to original Dream Team. And if you today send best players, A team, they would still have problems against teams like Spain, Greece, Serbia, Slovenia or Canada.

I watched every game. I said that Dream Team 1 and 2 toyed with their opponents, which by comparison, is different from how the Redeem Team fared in 2008. But I also felt that winning by an average of 17.3 ppg isn’t terrible. I did not comment on how the game played put down the stretch. I was focusing on the overall numbers.

NBA championship isn't a world championship... But team USA has shown time and time again we are the best not always but 80% of the times. I think Nick believes putting the most talented players on a team guarantees winning that is where I think he is clearly wrong. There is a world cup, it's literally happening right now! Lol. With your logic, any jamaican that wins their domestic sprint championships is a world champion. Or anyone who wins a domestic Kenyan marathon is a world champ. That makes no sense, even if you are better than someone, you still have to beat them to call yourself a champion. Otherwise you're just better than them. So yes, the Denver Nuggets can call themselves the best team in the world, but only the team that wins FIBA can call themselves world champions. @@loganleroy8622

It’s really weird that this is a controversial take. First off, it’s asinine to say that a team from a country’s national league should be considered world champion in the context of FIBA. However, there does exist a competition in which the most competitive teams from each league in the world participate, the FIBA Intercontinental Cup, to qualify you have to win a continental tournament first. Now, would an NBA champion win with relative ease, most likely, but have they done it of intend to do it? No, because they choose not to participate. So no, they aren’t world champions, they could be, but they choose not to be.
