I think that Nishinoya breaks his platform after receiving because it makes the spike looks more powerful visualy, it's like an animation technique to make the movement and strengh easier to understand

In 7:50, for exemple, he held it, because you're looking him from the side, so you can see the power of the spike in how much he bends his arms, so it's not necessary to break the platform in that case

CONGRATULATIONS!!! The only thing I will say about anime: they have this funny thing where in anime, time will literally slow down so that we - the audience - can "hear" what the character is thinking of in that moment. Sometimes the moments get a little ridiculous, but our thoughts are usually going so so fast, and we can recieve and process a bucket load of information before making those split-second decisions in real life, right? That's what those "slow-mo" moments -while the character thinks - are trying to emulate. Hope this helps clarify a few scenes. :)

  • @inxtrastic5072

I mean those slow motion kinda happens to me, it's like time stopped but it didn't I'm a badminton player and one time someone smashed and it felt like time stopped, I knew where the shuttle cock was gonna go but I couldn't move though I was still barely able to hit it back but it was out sadly, basically the mind's reaction time was just so much faster than the body itself

The reason why they show the foot with "ics" is it's a play on words in Japanese. Foot in Japanese is "ashi". If you combine "ashi" with "ics" it becomes "ashics" - Asics. .

I wish Eric could react to one of the anime matches, or at least one of the sets. For example, he could choose one of the Nekoma matches because they focus on receiving, like the Haruko qualifiers (Haikyuu!! Land vs Air OVA) or episodes 16-17 from Season 4 To the top, Nekoma vs. Sarukawa Tech. I'd love to get his insight on their game like he does pro volleyball reactions. Also, it would be easier for him to react if he knew the whole rallies.

Other than a few quick mentions here and there, usually from background characters, we the viewer don't get told just how good Nishinoya is as a Libero. Only once was it said that he was the #1 Libero when he was in junior high and I believe it was Daichi(captain) that said now that Kageyama joined they have another genius on the team. He isn't considered one of the best nationally in HS because his first year was on a pretty lackluster team. Maybe a little ahead of myself with this but I figured it a good way to let you know why Nishinoya does things maybe not even pros do all the time. In general I think the creator wanted to showcase proper/good technique, even if a little advanced for HS volleyball, so fans can appreciate both the manga/show and the sport itself more.

Erik, I love your enthusiasm and technical insight...with this anime. LOL If you get a chance, I would personally love to hear about how you scout patterns, read arms and offenses, and utilize anticipation to get to your spots to effectively cover balls. I remember talking with Jeff Stork briefly and he mentioned statistical analysis in terms of coverage areas, and I get that. Sometimes though, you come across these nasty hitters where they can turn and adjust so quick and hard that it feels almost impossible to figure out where they’re going. Thanks for taking your time to read this...

Its cause asahi was aiming for a heavy kind of ball one that is hard to receive, he's not mad at nishi he was just surprised that nishi received the ball so easily lmao and that made asahi more motivated

( 2:44 ep6) Asahi ,the server, wasnt mad at Nishinoya. He was mad at himself due to how easily his serve was dug up when hes trying to put for force/power behind his serves

I think he was talking about that though- that servers think it reflects badly on them that the libero could get it, but they should know that's the libero's job and it doesn't mean it was a bad serve

It's a pun too! 足 can be pronounced ashi, which means foot or leg - so with the foot logo it's ashi-ics, or ASICS.

Let me know if someone agrees, but when talking about serves and why they go where you don't want them to, i think it's because of where your focus is. If you focus on "i want to put the ball here" your focus is on the area of where you want the ball to go, but if you think "i don't want to put it here" your focus is entirely on the area that you don't want to hit, thus increasing the chances that you put it there.

A little background info about the low dives Nishinoya did, the team was training with a few other schools,, and as penalty for losing practice matches they basically had to do a bunch of drills over either certain moves or running uphill. At the time everyone was practicing new things, so they lost a LOT. So everyone on the team prob did over 200-300 of those dives during that time 😅

When i played i was in a youth league that comprised of kids from 12 to 18 without a lot of age division. My first coach took all the newbies and basically trained them as liberos to start then trai ing them how to serve. "If you start as a libero by the time your 16 you can be whatever you want." I ended up being a Middle for 3 years and a wing/outside my senior year but i cherished my ability to control the ball. When i went to college i played in the rec league for a while and kinda was known as the jack of all trades person. I could pass well, my sets were decent (not good but enough to get by), and my serving and spiking was in the top end of the players at the college. Blocking was always my favourite though. Being a middle blocker just felt so great. I would say i blocked like Aone with consistent form and good reactions. Not as intimidating though. I love your channel and good luck this year in the olympics.

For the asics, foot/leg in Japanese is ashi, so together it becomes (ashi)ics which is how u pronounce them in Japan. I realised is when I was watching one day and cracked up.

I was playing 3 men beach volleyball last year. I was 48yo then. This young dude kept spiking (3x) towards me in this one game. I was able to receive all 3 with no trouble and our team end up winning that play and eventually the game. I heard the young woman telling the guy on why he keeps giving the ball to me and she told him about me used to be a receiver/defense tactician(something like) back in HS and college. There's no libero during my time. I sensed the guy was testing me and there was somewhat arrogance in his demeanor. Take that!
