    Great knot..been using these leaders for couple weeks or so now brilliant and its about time a manufacturer made a tapered leader to 100lb as some of us need to fish big leads on some occasions!

    Ive been using Asso tapered leaders for a while, I trim a bit off the length as you did in this video, but have been tying them onto my mainline with a simple blood knot which hasnt let me down yet. I used to use the knots shown here when using straight leaders, but the albright part tied in the leader to connect it to the loop was really thick. Will have to give this one a try with tapered leaders though, see how it fares on the Thames Estuary👍👍

    Great video, just getting back into fishing after a break of 20+ years and suffering a heart attack last year, plenty of time on my hands now that I've also retired. In regard to shock leaders what ratio is best for 15lb mainline, also does unused mainline break down over the years. Thanks for the info 😊😊

    Thank you. Shock leader should be 10lb of breaking strain for every ounce cast. For example, if casting a 6oz lead, use 60lb shock leader. Monofilament will deteriorate through use in saltwater, UV also reduces its lifespan. Keep spools of line in a cool dark place away from sunlight.

    Great video, I'm just getting back into beach fishing and was wondering what was best, A tapered shock leader vs none tapered? Thank you Andy

    Thanks Andy. If you’re using a fixed spool, then a tapered leader is best. It creates a smaller knot, so the line has less chance of fouling it on the way off the spool when you cast. A standard (parallel) leader can be used on a multiplier and is what most anglers would opt for on these reels.

    Great video! Not quite the knot I was expecting, I’ve not long gotten myself some of this leader to go with the 20lb Varivas Green Sport, and used a double uni to attach it. Will have to give the knot a try! I’m guessing there’s no trouble with the loop catching during the cast using a fixed spool?

    No issue so far Andrew, I’ve been using this knot on fixed spool reels for more than two years now and can’t recall any issues on the cast. Jansen

    How does the strength of the spider hitch compare to the allbright knot which is the knot i prefer as with a tapered leader you have only one knot and is very compact and i find it a very strong knot but am always willing to try different variations

  • @VealsMailOrder2898

    @VealsMailOrder2898

    In terms of strength, I’d say the Spider Hitch comes out on top. The Albright is probably a little neater, but I’d trust the Spider more out of the two. Jansen

    @@VealsMailOrder2898 The machine testing says otherwise. Really it's down to personal preference & skill level FG will beat both hands down but if you can't tie one very well it's not gona be as secure as the machine tests show. I personally use the GT.

    Hi Martin. I would go for the 25-100lb Seadra Tapered shockleader. Cut a few feet off of the thin end before tying it on. These are pre cut lengths so you can’t go wrong. www.veals.co.uk/product/seadra-tough-taper-tapered-shock-leader/?aff=27

    I always like your videos, so thank you... but why have 2 knots & a loop travelling through the rings, when a simple double uni is so small & strong, and up there with the strength of allbright, this also looks tricker to tie. I appreciate this is a heavy shock leader, but have you seen this - kzread.info/dash/bejne/ioymks6IYdCsZs4.html, wouldn't buy Seadra without some kind of personal liability insurance!!

    That test is never going to be accurate at point blank range like that any knot will snap. Uni to uni is strong but it's not as strong as the spider hitch as it doesbt cut across, line to line like the uni... The spider hitch hitches so it much stronger if you pull it at point blank range it will however snap like any knot will

    The Spider Hitch is the strongest knot for its size and the most reliable I have found to date. When the Seadra Tough Taper was first introduced we had a small rogue batch that we thought we had identified, regrettably it looks like some spools got past us and one made it on to the video you mention. I’d honestly disregard that. I’ve found the Tough Taper to be very reliable and I’d never recommend anything that I didn’t feel was up to the task. Jansen.
