Teaching English in Thailand Q & A | Ep 92

I am teaching English in Thailand at 45 years old. In this video I answered questions people sent me (and some they didn't).
Here is the organization I used to teach in thailand: www.ciee.org/
Hi, we are Will & Lisa, two empty nesters looking for new adventures. In 2020, we sold our house in Southern California and quit our full-time jobs to spend less time working and more time trying out new things. In 2021, we built out a Ford E150 van and visited 9 states with our dog Teddy. In 2022, we walked the Camino de Santiago. And in 2023, after spending the winter in the Pacific Northwest, we’re on to the next adventure.
You’re never too old for a new adventure!

Well done! After taking the risk to move to Thailand, it wasn't so scary after all. I lived in CM too. I lived at Wat umong a few times as a lay man. It's was wonderful experience, l would highly recommend visiting this Wat- near CMU.

I feel like youve gotten markedly better at editing. This video has a really nice simple style with not too much music. :) fun!

the US must be the most pedestrian unfriendly country in the world. try walking in LA! chiang mai is actually quite walkable.

Yeah perhaps I should have been clearer about my small town and the lack of side walks or infrastructure. Going to Chiang Mai or Bangkok is different. But I have also walked all over parts of east LA, Little Tokyo, even downtown LA so I am quite familiar with walking in LA and using the metro system there. I even took my students on field trips there. Here in this small town intersections don't have pedestrian signals and many parts of the town have no sidewalks.

The pay was 33k baht + rent for my apartment. I don't have any prescriptions but the program I went with had a reimbursement based healthcare. If my contract was directly with the school, I would have got the health plan from them.

I was 3 months in Thailand and I have to say nobody speak English in Thailand or don’t want. With so many foreigners teaching English I don’t understand why Thais don’t speak English.. I am in Bali now and even a 2 years old has basic level of English.. wishing you all the best in your journey.

Oh really? Do you live under a rock or something? English is spoken with frequency in all of Thailand. In Thailand even a 5 years old kid, and a 90 years old woman will respond to you in some English, even though English is not their local language. Now you try to communicate with someone in Vietnam. In Vietnam nobody understands any English. Even the restaurant waiters at the tourist places will have difficulty in communicating with you. Thailand is way ahead of Vietnam in terms of their English skills.
