depends on the angle of your arms and what position you are playing from, are you passing or playing defense. If you're going to receive a ball from a spike there should be little movement up down with your arms, the only thing you should change is the angle of your arms

+Benny Garcia There is a technique which allow you to absorb its speed by pulling your arms with the same direction of incoming ball. that's what I am looking for in video to see

+bandar al-tayar if the blockers cannot block the ball, they can at least decrease its speed by touching it by their finger, so the ball will decelerate and it will be much easier to receive the spike.

I wonder if he still thinks you also need your hips to redirect the ball?

+JM Mallari if your hips are facing the wrong way but your platform is aimed @ your passing target, what do you think will happen? The ball only knows the angle your platform reflects to. I agree that your shoulders & spine influence how much angle you use in your platform, but have you ever watched a game of sitting volleyball? They don't use their hips to redirect for obvious reasons yet they pass the ball to target.

Wait don't you want you knees behind your toes not in front?

+Syvlan Raine No i believe not. because if you have your knees behind your toes you´ll have to bend the hip and that would put your hip higher than the ball or unballence backwards. it's what i think

Pedro Moreira err shouldnt you just lower your hip then? You/re balancing on your ankles then. This posture puts more strain on the front bones

+Syvlan Raine so if you lower your hips to be balanced your knees will go foward. because, in the ready position, you also want your ankle off the ground, it's easier and faster to move. And move in volleyball is crucial.
