I grew up in foster care. I called dcfs on my MIL because she abandoned my brothers in law. Now they all hate me (even though they begged me to call) but at least she's being forced to parent the boys now. I'm okay with it knowing that they're okay.

Taught at a school and one child was always dirty. We numbered the diapers we were given so we can keep track of how much each child had left and the parents could see (Ex: Diaper says #5 when they change them at home they know they are running low....yes they got a verbal alert too) One kid constantly came in with a clearly overly used diaper. Soaking and heavy and reeking of urine. Wasnt long I saw redness and a rash. I got fed up and called a manager to come look at the child and reported she comes in with diapers like this a lot and I was told the parent was struggling. I stated but she comes in dirty and sometimes in the same exact clothes as the previous day. Although I was a mandated reporter but I had to go through management who didnt do anything. I ended up keeping spare diapers I brought myself and a few things for a quick wash up when she got to school and would put her in spare clothes we kept for kids that had accidents. Upon pick up I would just state she wet through her clothes so we cleaned her up and changed her and sent the filthy clothes back. She never repeated the same clothes again, but I was still angry that no one did any follow up or something to help the family. I had 3 kids of my own at the time but my heart couldnt just let a child go dirty and uncared for.

In the tensest 11 hours of that server's life, we managed to get transport away, find temp housing, find a lawyer related to someone on the server just in case, and get all of their documents out of the house before helping arrange them to move out of state. There is a reason why they say abuse is a cycle. When a child is beaten for infractions real or imagined, they are being taught to use violence on others. Abuse is normalized in the mind of the abused and in many cases, the abuser. That's why it's so difficult to address and correct.

Be warned if you ever look up this book cuase it's known to describe several things that should defaintly be considered abuse or signs of abuse.for example hurting a freaking baby for biting during breast feeding or a child expecting to be hit bending over and hitting themsleves to punish themsleves due to how much they've been hit.

What is abuse to me is hurting your child with no reason to it(yes people in this video are terrible and do not have excuses bit I don't mean literally burning your child or whipping your child) for example a parent spanks their kids but once after Timmy punched his sister. Unfortunately in a lot of cases teachers do NOT make reports, either because they are afraid of the parent's reaction, they do not believe that a parent can be an abusive piece of shit, or simply don't want to get another adult in trouble with the law. Sometimes the teacher is also sympathetic to the abuser themselves because they might support the abuser's methods.

I was an abused child but I was manipulated to never speak about it because my brothers are my world. My mom although knew she was bi polar would beat us , degrade us, lock us in rooms , and very rarely starve us. I did everything I could to take all the blame because my brothers were premature children with medical issues . At 19 now I have a demeanor of stone , but the last time she tried to strike me . Not long after I turned 19 she was in a fit and zoned in on me because I'm the " root of her anger." I grabbed her wrists and squeezed an I saw fear in her eyes . I told this and I quote. " you take you drugs and sleep on the couch every night, I can take you out when ever I please. I let you live after what you've done to us because my brother have a fucked up adoration for you and theyll resent me for it if I killed you. Dont try it again" Then I let her go, she scrambled off to her room and stayed there for a few hours . I have more accounts if you wanna hear , we are too old for CPS just autistic.

Let your brother know the reality of the situation he's in. When hate arises, Remind him that no-matter what. His mom is still to be respected as his mother. His blind love could very well get him severely hurt like what I experienced. My neighbors neglected to even feed their two kids (whom come over to my home very frequently just for food and a loving family) and the younger one still loved the mother so much he was too oblivious of the danger he was in and fell down a flight of stairs and sustained head injuries and became autistic. I say became autistic because this kid could hold real mature conversations (I'm a former tuition teacher so this is not an exaggeration) with me at the age of 4. After that he can never even speak whole sentences (he's 14 now) and became completely inable to communicate due to lack of emotional understanding. Do not underestimate the power of truth, extenuating circumstances do exist but your brother could do something completely and utterly dumb under your radar and hurt himself more than what was needed.

For the tarantula kid, I thought that the kid may have had an intense fear of tarantulas/spiders (borderline phobia) and so the parents would lock him in the closet with the tarantula running around in it. Librarian here. There was a genuinely horrible woman at my library who always brought her kids, and the ONLY thing she EVER did, was scream at her 3-year old son what had to be every five seconds. I mean to the point where you could hear her from three floors down, it was that loud. Oh, and she's the kind of non-Parent who'd rather play on her phone or the computer instead of comforting her crying baby. And, like morons, we let her do that for a while because we were afraid of her. What changed? Well, one day I heard her yelling at her son, again, this time to the point where he started crying. Hard. And she was not letting up. So I got brave. I went up to her and asked her, politely, to stop doing that to her son, because it was making us all very uncomfortable, and frankly that she should know better. Was it comfortable? No. Did it result in a complaint to my boss? Probably. (He never talked to me about it though, so I presume he realized she was full of it.) And she came back, but thank God, she doesn't yell anywhere near as much as she used to. I still make it a point to observe her carefully at a distance every time she comes by, though. I'm not letting my guard down around her.

They started an after-school "program" to give what I guess are middle-school or/and jr. high kids, to give them a safe place between when school lets out and when their parents come home. A good thing - but...nobody has taught them library manners. So they talk as if it's their cafeteria, with loud laughter and raised voices. And we patrons apparently don't matter a damn. (I found that out, though in much nicer language, when I asked a worker.) I'm sure my husband and I aren't the only patrons they have lost. Oh, well, more $$ for Amazon, through my Kindle, and less for the library. (I'm not famous for strict punctuality; I decided late fees were how I donated.)

You have to understand these people are just beating the kids senselessly. I am 13 and if I did something wrong my parents would spank my butt twice. They didn't like it but I needed to know the consequences as a kid. You might say that's abuse but they cried most of the time afterwards because they didn't like it. Yes you should take classes to learn how to be a good parent but people who claim they are good parents don't even give the kids consequences, which I personally I think is abusing your child by telling them they can do whatever they want. I am perfectly good now and I'm almost as tall as my father who is 6 feet tall so they take away video games which make me a lot. So I think discipline should change when you get older. As a kid you're a bundle of energy so you need stuff to do so you get spanked. As a teenager you kinda get stronger and more resistant to pain so take away( video games, movies, hanging out with friends, etc.) cause those are important to you. As an adult you obviously can get arrested.

I Have a degree in memes... it's the best way for most children to learn because a lot of them are still learning about good and bad and how sometimes there is a little grey area also many children are more often less verbal in understanding. And how is it lazy? Lazy to me is doing nothing at all to discipline your kids and my parents only did it if it was necessary. Yes there is times when it isn't necessary like how it is rude to point when I was little because people were in wheelchairs. Yes they did spank me like when I was 5 throwing pencils at my sister trying to hurt her( she's 4 years older) and other stuff like that. But in no case is it lazy. Again lazy is letting your kids do absolutely anything and not getting in trouble. You need a combination of both. But I understand why people don't want to spank their kids. But it raised me to be respectful. That's my personal experience at least. People may be more intelligent than others and understand why their parents told them not to do it. I was a stupid little kid. You may view it in the wrong way and many people do. I'm not going to get political it's just from my experience it was best for me. (Also note how people who were spanked most of the time in the past was [ again most of the time] more respectful) . But You are entitled to your own opinion as so am I. It's my freedom of speech.

He currently is 16 and lives with very good parents don’t misunderstand me please because I was actually trying to help him not do something bad

Ok, the Child Labor one is understandable, in fact, in some countries (Particularly un-developed countries, or war-torn countries) it is almost necessary. The reason most families in these countries tell their children to work is because A. The parents are too old or caring for babies at home or B. They have been damaged physically or mentally One country (I can't remember the name) made child labor illegal once, and the death rate increased rapidly due to these families not getting enough income to support the family. However, due to this immigrant family owning a business, it is possibly un-necessary for the child to work until 1am. I believe the parents probably didn't have enough income to hire a chef or anything, but if they did, then they should probably not force a child to work for them just because they wanted to save money, because that's Forced Labor, if you ask me. But, this is how life goes on. Its sad, but its true.

Thankfully I haven't but a teacher in hs told the class a story from one of his former students who is now a cop and what he found some rich lady was doing to her son. The former student was dispatched to a well off area with big houses and the lady was trying to keep him from her backyard where her son was. Cop went back there anyway and found the son naked and chained up like a dog, like literally being treated as an actual dog. The teacher ended it their but needless to say that lady was arrested for child abuse, and knew full well what she was doing and that it was very illegal.

so when i was 14-15 my mom was abusive as all hell. i was in different programs because i would seek attention from men because my mom would only give me negative attention and beat me etc. so CPS was at my house all the time. they never did shit until i threatened to runaway (ended up doing it alot bc of placement thats another story) i told my safe house worker i would runaway to a mans house that i met online. (he ended up kidnapping and raping me (look up Noble Suazo missouri and im the 15 year old girl from NY)) so i ended up in a homeless shelter and when my mom picked me up she stopped at a gas station and tried to fight me in the store! so drunk guy stood up for me i shouldve gotten his name... but so we get home and she hits me and leaves a bruise. i go to school the next day show my counselor and i got sent to my dads which was bad too he is a deadbeat and blames me for my moms actions. then boom placement and running away and now im 18 free from all that shit and living my best life!

My boyfriend and his siblings were verbally abused by their parents growing up. He said that they never physically beat them, but they would always call him and his siblings things like worthless, the r word, and would sometimes wish that they would die. My boyfriend said that he would actually pray that his parents would physically hit him once, just so he could have physical proof to show to a teacher. His younger and only sister gets treated the worst out of them. She’s not allowed to get grades below A’s, she has to go to the college they choose and major in what they choose, and she’s not allowed to have friends over, date, or even have friends that’re boys. I told my bf that I could call CPS since I knew what was going on, but he told me not to because he said that in the past, one of their neighbors called CPS because they saw his dad drag his little sister by the hair into the house when she was walking home from school, but there was no video evidence of it happening. My bf tried to tell CPS that their parents were verbally abusive and it was affecting their mental health, but they told him “Sticks and stones. Insults here and there build character” and they just left after that. He doesn’t trust CPS so he puts the responsibility on himself, as the oldest, to make sure his siblings are doing good and will even fight his parents on their behalf. I’ve tried my best to help out. Whenever she feels unsafe and my bf isn’t home to watch her, I’ll go and pick her up and take her somewhere until my bf can come and pick her up. He’s been trying to move out and he wants to take his sister with him

Not rarely kids are unwanted accidents, in most cases they get accepted but still there are more than enough where parents just do not accept their children and let them feel that. Then another "reason" is if you are overwhelmed with your children, if something happens it is easy to blame the kid, the even worse thing is that CPS fails badly in many situations if they even get informed. But that is the reason i think that there should be a test if you are a responsible parent and if you are able to handle this, kids shouldn't get taken away, but at least support or observation, this would probably save many children from such situations.

But it's not funny when you have to call CPS becouse the parents don't care for the safety of the kids or them becoming "brain dead " becouse if it. This stuff needs to stop. Please for the love of everything. Don't make a bad choice and hurt you or your family.

One day the youngest shows up at our door 6 am saying her mother beat the shit out of her, we called the cops, she did but because of her mental disorders the police returned her so we called social workers on them and I haven’t seen them in nearly 7 years now and they are both doing so well living far away from there mother.

Have to say, whoever commented below the "under the thumb" one boils my blood. Many people forget that an abusive mother (or any parent) can ALSO be abusive to their spouses, causing their spouses to be unable to feel like they can do anything either via threats of losing custody of the kids, financial abuse, emotional abuse, even physical abuse. An "under the thumb" parent is equally as much a valid victim of suspected abuse as the children and treating them like they are the same as the abuser whether because of gender (the instinct to misjudge fathers due to "deadbeat/useless" stereotypes) or not, it's disgusting. We don't know who the people are, but anyone reading this comment should consider this side of the coin when encountering something similar.

CPS does fail people. I have a connection to a family where the parents divorced but the courts banned the abused father from raising his children. Instead they Wye given to the mother. She hoarded things and animals and the carpets and walks were soaked in urine, the kids were abandoned at the house for months at a time and had to somehow pay the mortgage and food and bills themselves without cars or jobs, and were forced to live with a stalker of one of the kids who promised to marry his victim on the property, and when the mother was home the kids were beaten. CPS was called on her dozens of times, but she pretended to be nice in public so the never visited the house or spoke to the kids and the father was banned from visiting to "protect them" as the mother claimed he was the abuser. CPS is underpaid and overworked so that get burnt out and don't care or put effort in to do the job properly anymore.
