Teach your horse to stand still: trail and arena Episode 3: The Trail to the World Show
Фильм және анимация
"Do you trail ride your show horses?"
Yes. And I take the training I use in the arena out on the trail to strengthen my communication. In this video I explain emotional control training, training cycles and the cue I have for teaching my horse to stand still.
This year I've decided to invite you in for a behind-the-scenes look at preparing and taking two horses to the Western Dressage World Show in October 2019. In this video first video, I will introduce you to Willow and Gabby, tell you a bit about them and then tell you the plan. It is April right now and although I'm welcoming you behind the scenes...I can't tell you exactly how the story will go. That's the fun part. All the twists and turns that happen along the way to a big goal.

I do love the concept of queuing for a halt! Makes total sense! I know we have always traditionally done the "whoa, release, hope" method in the past LOL
Love how you pack so much information into such a short video! I'm going to take these ideas and work on applying them to my horses! Thank you!
Wow, what a beautiful buckskin! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks a lot for sharing your experience with us.
The out takes were a blast to watch 😂. Marble is soo cute! Also its fun to see the progression in the horses from square one to thus far :)) congrats!
Thank you Stacy :)
ENJOYABLE GREAT JOB AND KNOWING YOUR HORSE
Well, thank you Stacy! I never had a good reason to hold light pressure to hold that frame, but it sure makes sense now...esp with the halt. I’ll be doing 5hat now instead of releasing everything
I wish I was closer to you and could go trail riding with you. 'Outside' is my nemesis and I get nervous. I know I just need to go do it. I have a young horse now but he has a good mind. Willow looks an awful lot like a horse I had a few years ago. Same color, same size, same disposition. Now I have a much more confident guy and I need to step up!
Great work, great video! Cheers from Russia
Thank you for sharing, very informative and interesting as always. And Marvel (?) your cat, awwwww 😻😻 did I get the name right? She is looooooovely. Please more, cannot wait.

Hi Stacy! I love this video! I'm an avid trail rider, but I'm transitioning into competing young horses. Could you clarify a few things about your trail training? Do you go alone on your horse's first trail ride? Do you worry about trail riding with sliders on?

I think that each horse is different. I have the ability to pony my young horses (as shown in the Stacy's Video Diary series here on KZread). So on my first trail rides I often either have my husband pony me or I follow him as he rides a horse my horse knows well. Really, it depends on how much riding time they have before I go to the trail. If they have a lot of arena time, I can go alone or off line. If I want to go out but I don't fully trust them, I add more steps, like being ponied. When I first started trail riding with sliders I was worried. I think the footing matters. Our horse do fine here in Ohio. If there was a lot of smooth rock it might not work. On the dirt under these trees we have no issues. The most slippery place with sliders is a parking lot! Once they can handle sliders on pavement they seem to understand quite a bit about 'how not to slide'.
