Teach Sit Pretty
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
Dog tricks Sit Pretty - The trick 'Sit Pretty' is one of my favorite exercises to teach dogs. It is not only an adorable trick, but it has many benefits that make it a must to train. Teaching 'Sit Pretty' increases your dog's balance and body awareness. It also builds your dogs core muscles which protect the spine from injury during dog sports or playing fetch. 'Sit Pretty' is a trick for healthy dogs. If your dog has pre-existing injuries, consult a physical therapist to inquire if this trick is safe for your specific dog.
Most dogs do not have the muscles to be able to sit pretty without support, and it can take 2 weeks to over a month to build the muscles. To do this you can practice short sessions of 'Sit Pretty' daily until your dog builds up the balance and strength to hold the position.

Update on Ace - I have gotten him involved in playing some of the games kzread.infoUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU and I can see a difference in his confidence already! My other dog played along and he became intrigued - now its a daily part of our routine - about 3 times a day we do the shell game and the muffin tin game. I am so grateful for coming upon your training techniques!
I feel like shes the only one who actually admits that their dog already knows that trick xD
What an adorable group of dogs

Exactly the video I needed, thank you. The bonus tricks at the end are ridiculous!
This helped me train my collie so much easier! I’ve watched multiple videos to teach my dog sit pretty but she always either falls over or doesn’t hold it, she can actually hold the position now which is a great improvement!

Hey when you first started would she lift up for literally a split second then fall back down? I'm training my BC and currently at this step
My jack russell taught herself this trick at 8 weeks. She just started to sit pretty when she was pegging for food, haha.

Awe :) I bet she's cute when she does it too
The large number of tips in this video is fantastic. Didn't realize how much I was missing or doing wrong. Thank-you!
The dog hug end ❤️
The trainer is so pro that it makes it look so easy. My puppy is 2 and half months and can already play dead but sit pretty is hard on his muscles. will begin taking baby steps and the suggestion to make them sit properly is very good too. Thanks
The hug at the end was adorable.
Excellent training video for sit pretty. Thank you for breaking it down step by step to help the dog be successful. I am looking forward to seeing my dog sit pretty.
Very cute and a great reminder to recheck, retrain and reproof and I love standing behind them for support, that is a great technique to have someone check their bellies that they are okay like when a doc needs to examine them if they are okay. Blessings, the dogs are too cute.
Omg!!! The hugging part is so awesome!! Imma teach my French bulldog and my Malinois to hug each other now!! Haha
This video has really helped me with my cross breed dog Jack he is a 6 year old Border Collie/ German Shepherd. For years he would go unwalked and knew nothing but the back yard. no mental training or physical either. one month ago i took him off my parents hands who obviously could not handle the whining and the high energy of him. Now he goes' for 5 walks a day all lasting for 30 mins apart from his "big" walk of an hour. i have taught him spin, walk by my side, play dead and currently working on sit pretty. this channel has gave me confidence to train him, so thank you.
I love, love your videos. You are such a great trainer. thanks for helping us novices out.
Great training video! I loved how you broke down into small, easy to teach, steps, very thorough! Also interesting to hear the benefits of this trick; building up the dogs core. Im having fun learning with my 6 month old Mini Aussie.
Thank you! Amazing tutorial as always. We will try 'Sit pretty' this week..

My 1 year old Volpino italiano couldn't keep his balance so I thought we had to give up on this trick completely. Watching your video was very helpful, now I let him put one of his paws on the hand I hold the treat with and with that little help he finds the perfect balance. One hour training and we master it pretty good, with a daily training and patience, hopefully we can get perfect. Thank you very much!
awww I loved how you teach the trick! keep going!! 💖
You are so precise and acurate in your steps. Thank you!
Thanks so much! You answered all the questions that come up in each step of the process!! Keep up the great work!

Nice! You are awesome helper for people who has a dog!
Wow! You are so amazing! I love how you explain! It actually makes sense the way to explain it! Really, you are an amazing and awesome trainer! 1 million thumbs up! You know so much and are really good at telling us how to train! Also, I love how to give more than one way to train!
Awww so nicely done and explained. Thanks for sharing
you always seem to know just what I am wanting to start teaching my Berner. Thanks!
I love your videos very easy to understand
NIce! I can't wait for our foster Pit Charlotte to learn this!
Thank you! This was very helpful. I've been trying to teach my cattle dog pup to "sit pretty" before a "wait" every day while giving him breakfast for weeks/months. It unintentionally evolved from him using my hand to balance during the "paw" or "shake" command. He recently started trying it without support from my hand but slips sometimes on our tile floor. I didn't realize I could be causing him damage by not providing him more traction first or making sure he's sitting straight with his feet planted symmetrically.
Ive never seen a dog catch a ball like that ! that's awesome thanks for the videos
You are amazing! This has helped me a lot, thank you 😊
The last part is so cute!
Love this video & send it to my clients all the time for dogs who hurt me when they jump excitedly. Building those doggy abs helps so much & takes the strain off their ACL/legs, they can even take treats more nicely since they don’t have to grab them as they’re falling.
This is great! Prior to watching this I got her to do the trick with the lure but wasn't sure how to get her to do it without. Something to work on tomorrow :)
Awesome as always!
I juste love your videos! Thanks and keep up the good work.
he is sooo focused on you, good jobb!!
Great video Kiki! I am going to be working on building the muscles for a while, especially since my dog is only 6 months. And then build the behavior up! Thanks for the video!
Seriously love your content, thank youuuuu!
"Meerkat" funny I like it lol
Awesome! Selma already knows the trick and it's her absolute favourite trick to perform. I never did know of the benefits it had though, but that just makes it all the more awesome. I might try and teach Lykke it. :)
Awesome great job! Love it
That hug at the end!! Wow, another great video 🤩. Not to dis Zack George but your videos are so much more thorough. Really appreciate that and now I can more confidently (and consistently) get my pups to sit pretty! And maybe some of those other tricks later down the line😉

Well, my videos are just like informational educational videos, they are not meant to be entertainment. So a lot of people do bug me to smile and make the videos more entertaining, but its just not my style.
P.S. Emily--you are a woman after my own heart. I too, have rescue 4 dogs, and they are a somewhat similar assortment to yours: a border collie, and aussie, a terrier mix, and a Havanese/terrier mix. Thanks for all the excellent positive training info!

Its cute 😎😁but I wish my dog did that
My first dog was a mixed breed (german shepherd and some kind of sighthound, perhaps whippet, probably other stuff too) and it was very easy to teach her this trick so it never occurred to me that it might be difficult for dogs to do. Then I got my second dog, a (mostly) boston terrier (a little frenchie's in there too), and I saw when I tried to teach her this that she couldn't maintain the balance to do it. I could tell it was because of how she was sitting, she seemed to actually roll back on her bottom instead of resting on her heels like my other dog, but I figured this was just an anatomical issue since she's so rounded and sausage shaped instead of proper dog shaped, so I just gave up on it. It never occurred to me that I could try to teach her to sit differently.
Great video! The end is AMAZING! :)
i'm so trying this!!! thanks
Beautiful instructions

Tug catching that ball is just adorable! My dog already knows how to stand on her hind legs, will these tricks interfer her learning sit pretty?
Love it!
Hi! I’m so glad I stumbled on this video and your channel and website etc. love this style of teaching. I was wondering if you could share which clicker(s) and treats you like to use for training? Thanks!! Just adopted and rescued my latest fur baby from a shelter. Pom/papillon type - She’s so calm, loving, smart and the sweetest and somewhat trained but her separation anxiety is the worst I’ve ever experienced with a dog. Working on it. Hope you have some videos in that topic too! Thank you for sharing this way/style with the world 🙏🏻💛🐾

Fantastic video
hehe, i always just gently took the paws of my dog and lifted them, said the command, then she got a treat. after ten times of this i said the command and she did it alone xD but very nice tutorial, i'll do it like that if my next dog if my method won't work ^^ and you have beautiful dogs :) i love how different they are

The difference is she allows to the dog to offer her the behavior which builds a different relationship with the dog. She does not force but allows the dog to choose to give the behavior and she works at the pace of the dog's ability not on her agenda's time frame. I've found her approach extremely helpful for teaching my dog to trust me and to want to please me by doing these kinds of actions but I believe in allowing the dog to offer .
Thank u so much for this video. I find ur videos to be very helpful because you're so thorough and clear in ur instructions. I wanted to take the sit pretty trick a bit further and teach my dog to hug. If u have time, can u post a video on how to teach a dog to hug? I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks for your great videos. I have taught my border collie, Kaylie, to sit pretty but she is only doing it for the lure. As soon as the lure disappears she quits doing it without a release cue. If I raise the treat up she stands up on her hind legs. I will try what you say about offering an empty hand and giving her the treat from my other hand. Thank you! Your videos are wonderful! Keep them coming!
your are so great!
Thanks for adding that they have to build their abs first 😩 my standard poodle is new to learning the trick so she’s using my arm to support her weight. I couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong.
u are very good trainer i m from Pakistan and i following your trick's thank you
Nice shirt! I have the same one!
one more subscriber. u r a nice trainer
Hi Kikopup, thanks for the wonderful tutorial. My pup has been checked by a vet and is healthy, yet when I try to do this trick with her she watches my hand and the lure for 20 seconds or so, and then she jumps up and holds on to my arm, even though she doesn't need to jump to get the treat. She doesn't take her feet off the ground until she jumps. I'd really appreciate any tips to mitigate what I am doing wrong if that's possible!
so sweet
would a Alaskan malamute be able to do this safely? (with training of course lol) just worried as they can develop hip problems
this channel is amazing !
my little italian greyhound/chihuahua mix still needs time to get this down. he still falls over and cant quite balance himself. this has helped a lot for future steps though!!

You can practice the trick say your prayers where he rests his paws on your arm to begin with :)
Tnx from algeria
i have a question what if your dog doesn't fall for the lure? My dog has fairly strong legs and spine and shes able to stand for quite a bit but will not follow the lure into the sit pretty position
I noticed how all the dogs in the video had tails. Does it tend to be a bit more challenging with a dog that has a no tail aka DOCKED? My aussie's tail is docked so I know she has less balance than a ton of other dogs, and makes it more difficult
Brilliant : )
Love this! Will try it from behind her, right now she mostly jumps or lifts her butt instead of just her paws. Any tips to keep her bottom planted?
How do you phase out using your arm for balance? Is that just something that happens with more practice and as they develop the core strength?
Do you have any tips about if your dog sees the cue as a cue to jump up, out of the sit? I'm currently marking when he raises his front paws as part of the jump but I'm not sure whether that's making it worse, or whether he'll eventually get what I'm really asking him?
Super mam
how do you teach them to hug
WHOOOAAAAA. I REALLY NEED TO WORK ON FETCH, BUT THIS IS JUST COOL... I'MA DO IT

Is it okay to do this trick with "lowrider" dogs? (I have a Havanese mix who is nearly as long and low and a dachshund, though not quite.)
How do you differentiate the hand signal for sit and sit pretty?
Very nice keep it up
