TDG: Triumph & Tragedy
World War II was the most destructive event in world history. It also led to some really awesome board games! Is this latest offering from GMT Games among them, or is it destined to be merely a footnote to a footnote in gaming history. Cody investigates.

Cody I hope GMT know you're their greatest asset. I got this on a p500 order this week. I know that your video is now 6 years old but it still provided me with the context enough to know I wanted it! You have really nurtured my love of GMT

Using a counter clipper to round the corners of your chits really improves their looks. Recommend.
Excellent review. I love Triumph and Tragedy. The 1st edition is sold out and GMT is running another P500 for the 2nd Edition with a mounted map, better counters, and some other improvement I can't recall.

Another great review that may cost me money. It looks like it may be a streamlined version of GMT's Europe Engulfed (2003).

+Dean Liggett I remember looking into Europe Engulfed back in the day, but it was already out of print by the time it caught my attention- so I cann't speak to that. Triumph & Tragedy is a great game, however.
Great review! I will probably buy this. And of course, Chamberlain is vastly underrated as a political leader. His politics gave Britain a moral high ground that helped swing the public opinion in other countries (especially the U.S).

+Karl Stengård Interesting point of view. Certainly, had he moved to go to war over Czechoslovakia he would have been subject to a vote of no confidence in the House of Commons and then someone like Halifax would have become PM, someone willing to come to terms with Hitler.

It was probably very convenient to blame any early issues on Chamberlain? Like Norway....

Here's a trick war gamers have known for a while. Get yourself a sheet of plexi-glass. It helps protect the paper maps and helps keep the creases down so pieces sit properly and aren't tilted or kiltered and fall over. A real annoyance with games that have cardboard chits. The blocks of T&T might be okay on creases, so if anything it helps to protect it.

Remember how I said this was expensive? Well, I got one for a total of 78 dollars which is like 40 dollars less than most. I'm very lucky I found out about this game before the biding ended, and I'm gonna play it for the first time today! Thank you sir!

I actually haven't played it in a while. I have a copy of Conquest & Consequence, the sequel, that I haven't gotten to the table yet.
yeah, I hate paper maps but I'm just used to that with my war games. I bought a sheet of plastic just for my paper map games -- flattens it out and provides a smooth uniform surface. I didn't hear about this game, but it looks interesting. If I didn't already have Unconditional Surrender: Europe, I would pick this up.

I'm starting to wonder if there's a way to stop, consistently, the West sprint-to-nuclear strategy. Go very aggressively after technology and let the Soviet Union keep the Axis honest militarily and diplomatically. That said, I break the other way and prefer this game by a hair over Churchill, precisely because I'm charmed at how the game allows for strategies that break profoundly from the historical unfolding of WW II.

In the search of a wargame that play 4 people I must have watched at least 4-5 of your videos. I gotta say you produce very high quality content and you deal very well with the camera. Keep up the good work! Any indication of when the 2nd edition of The Lamps are going out comes out? It keeps getting pushed. Its one of the games I have shortlisted (alongside Friedrich on the back of your recommendation, QMG WWI, 2 of the COINs and 878 Vikings).
