Hi, I have a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited, I bought 2 years as a certified used car, 3.6 with the 8 speed, with 26000 miles, now has 38000 miles on it. question is I have always had a shift flair, first to second, when would be a good time to change the fluid? Any ideas what would cause the shift flair? P.s it has been to the dealer, they say it’s normal, TCM updated, and quick learn done, still does it. Help?

What’s up man! Perfect timing with these 2 videos I have the same issue with my 2014 Jeep GC, not going into a gear. It’s at the dealership now and they are saying it needs a new valve body...4K🤯. Im going to ask if there are any flash updates for the TCM and get another quote before I do anything. I was watching your 9 speed valve body replacement videos and you mentions a person could DIY but would need a good scan tool for the update after the install is completed. Is that also the case with the 8speed? if so can you recommend a scan tool? Or would I be better off taking it back to a dealership for the updates / re-learn if I DIY the job. I’m mechanically capable to do the job, just not sure about the computer stuff. Would appreciate any input you have, thanks for the vids!!!

Hey bud thanks for watching. Yes, there are updates to just about every 8 speed RWD trans out. But the updates are simply for improved shifting. If they recommending a valve body, they likely got a trouble code thats pointing to the valve body. Is this a DIY job? Sure, a guy with mechanical skills can do the job but like I said in those vids, thats where you stop. Unless, you have the proper scan tool. The 8 speed valve body is also the TCM so it would have to be programmed before the car will even start. What scan tool do I suggest? Dealer Wi-tech, which you will not have unless you employed with fca. That would make this a dealership shop job IMO. Thanks for watching the vids. I hope you giving them thumbs up and are subscribed to the channel, thanks

My Jeep 8hp70 TCM valve body went bad at 70k. It wouldn't start, so it had to be towed. There is a manual neutral release under the center console. Anyways, the part was over $1,000 to replace just for the part alone. Luckily, it was under warranty and I got a fluid change for free.

I beg for your help master. Ok so my local dealer diagnosed my 2015 Grand Cherokee Limted 3.6 9 speed ZF with a bad valve body which has the TCM integrated on the same valve body. Ok so I swapped the valve body with an identical factory valve body. You mentioned in another one of your videos that after installing the new valve body my vehicle had to get reprogrammed/reflashed. Well I just took my GC to the dealer today 1/29/21 and now they are telling me that the vehicle won't take the new reflash/reprogram that it keeps giving them error codes.??? REALLY??? Now what? I have never felt like this in my life, like nowhere to run. I beg for your help please sir. Thank you God Bless.

Hey bud, sorry you having theses problems. Now if this a factory oem valve body, im not understanding why it cant be programmed? One thing that will cause this is no bus reading. I have to ask this because this happens, are you 100% sure you pushed the connector at the valve body all the way in? It has to make proper contact with that digital plate. A lot of guys will mistakenly set the connector in place the twist it downward thinking its locked into place and it not be. Other than that, theres no other reason why the dealer techs cant reprogram the TCM. Replacing the VB fairly easy and it only goes in one way. Im hoping you do not have the shift overide activated also.

@@OnlineMechanicTips ohhhhhhhhhhhh darnitttt. Yes the shift override was activated. Thats the little handle under the center console that's wrapped around an orange tape correct? The dealer closes at 17:00 pacific time, and I got there at 16:15 so they had a non technician that's familiar with the program to try to reprogram it. So to sum things up, if that shift override is pulled up it won't be possible to reprogram it correct?

I could tell from experience that if you are lucky you end up doing this a t the stealership. A rare instant that you want this fixed there. My mechanic is excellent but was not equipped for this exact TCM problem. He needed to buy special scanner, buy special subscription and end up calling a chrysler master mechanic to program it. Well, although he assured me he wasn't gonna pass all the costs to me, I feel he did. Now he is probably equipped for the next durango, but I'm subsiding the next guy. But the main thing here is yiu guys have no idea how honest and knowledgeable this guy here on KZread because i went through this.

Don't go by the car manufacturers word. Go by the transmission manufacturers word. ZF says it requires maintenance. Don't remember exactly, but I believe ZF recommends fluid and filter every 50k based on driving habits. A lot of towing, do it sooner.

Looks way too complicated and poorly designed to me. Why put all the electronics in the valve body where they can eventually get trans oil into them etc. If the valve body is good but electronics are bad you have to replace the whole thing rather than just pull the computer from under the dash and repair or replace it without opening the actual transmission. I guess I'm glad I got a Nag1 in my Charger RT now as it's somewhat still self service friendly. If right to repair takes hold everywhere a lot of manufacturers are going to have to change the way they do things. Guys really lucky his car is still under warranty and hopefully these kind of issues are rare. Pretty sure repair parts can be found but you aren't allowed to play that game with customers cars at the dealership.

If it's new to them and not a in house design they are probably finding weak points to beef up and have some recourse against the supplier they get them from. Many times you really don't want to be the buyer of the first one of anything.
