Tchaikovsky: Variations on a Rococo Theme - Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra - Live Concert HD

Музыка

Inspired by Mozart, Tchaikovsky wrote this gracious piece for cello and orchestra. There are eight variations on the original theme. Cellist Pablo Ferrández is soloist next to the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. Ferrández is known for his emotional play and his love for interacting with the audience: he always tries to look people in the eye while performing. Conductor Elim Chan is conquering the world with her work - in 2014 she won the prestigious Donatella Flick LSO Conducting Competition. The concert is performed live in the Great Hall of The Concertgebouw.
The musicians:
Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra
Elim Chan [conductor]
Pablo Ferrández [cello]
The musical program:
Tchaikovsky - Variations on a Rococo Theme
Recording: The Sunday Morning Concert of Sunday the 20th of January 2019, live in The Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.

Starting about 7:00 until the end of that variation really reminds me of Tchaikovsky's beautifully tragic "Francesca da Rimini." (Specifically the middle section of it.) The first time I heard this piece, it had come on autoplay while I was riding my motorcycle and I couldn't look at the history until I stopped. Saw the composer and knew this was the one I was looking for!

Geweldig cadeau om dit te mogen luisteren! Deel VI behoort tot de mooiste melancholische melodielijnen. Ook waard om te luisteren is de uitvoering van Sergei Nakariakov, uitgevoerd op een speciale Bugel (extra register).

Why are they not playing the original score by Tjaikovskij? In stead of the cellist, W. Fitzenhagens old, abused "version". In the comments it says, there are 8 variations. But they play only 7. Fitzenhagen has cut out the 8th intirely.
