The Variations on a Rococo Theme in A major, Opus 33 (TH 57 ; ČW 59), was Tchaikovsky's first composition for cello and orchestra, written between December 1876 and January 1877.
For many years the Variations were known only in a version heavily edited by Wilhelm Fitzenhagen, to whom the work was dedicated. Tchaikovsky's original version was reconstructed and published for the first time in the 1950s.
Edited by Wilhelm Fitzenhagen:
• Tchaikovsky: Variation...
Пікірлер: 6
This version is so much better and truly captures Tchaikovsky. I think I read somewhere too that Tchaikovsky did not really like the alterations fitzehagen made
My favourite version and interpretation so far.
both versions are beautiful and authentically tchaikovsky. this version ive never heard before, but i really love the beginning of variation 8 that is distinct from the fitzenhagen version
I'm fascinated by this score. On the one hand, it sounds more authentically Tchaikovsky. On the other hand, great concertos often have the mark of a skilled soloist giving guidance to the work (as we see in the version of this work more frequently performed today, or even his violin concerto). I have to say though, in my opinion, the reorganization of the variations by Fitzenhagen is much more compelling this, Tchaikovsky's original version. The original sounds a bit random in the way it jumps from variation to variation. Fitzenhagen's edited version brings more logic to the sequence of the variations, even if it does embellish the solo part a bit ostentatiously at times.
Sehr große Sendung, vielen Dank
