Alot of people think this song is about America's war of 1812. However, Tchaikovsky was definitely Russian. He wrote 1812 Overture to commemorate Napoleans defeat in Russia.

Noah Thornburg lol just because it has the year 1812 in it doesn't mean it's the war of 1812 and why would a Russian Mae a orchestra about an American war

Nobody thinks its about America. You can clearly hear La Marseillaise(French Anthem) and God save the Tsar. I appreciate music & art regarless of nationality.

And shiot you out in the 16th shot.
I can't imagine how hard it must have been for those musicians to keep playing with stuff exploding on top of them. Brilliant performance.

It goes along with the beat so I doubt the musicians were even flinching.

This is one of the most spectacular, beautiful performance for peace!!! Good job! Orchestra & Fireworkers!
Goosebumps.
This is the kinda thing that you watch, and it makes you happy just to be alive. So beautiful.
the synchronized fireworks make a nice touch. i love the 1812, particularly when it is done with actual cannons.
I literally just cried.

badass conductor 0:31
Story through music (finale) bells & Orthodox hymn about people praying, French march (Napoleon retreating from Russia) then God Save the Tsar (Russian Empire). But however play Tachaikovsky's 1812 Overture it's about people praying & victory.
I like the sounds of those fireworks shooting
Should play this every new year in Hong Kong!

Beautiful
Wow... Increible. Hermoso! No me alcanzo a imaginar cómo se sentiría el maestro Tchaikovsky al ver este digno homenaje de su obra. Sencillamente Espectacular.
Wow! This video shows the most perfectly timed explosions to go with the great 1812 Overture than I have ever seen. July 4th is not complete for me until I listen to the whole 1812 Overture. I love its peaceful beginning. This is definitely the "money shot" though. Great job Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and Conductor Perry! Now, I will listen to the Overture in its entirety.

Absolutely stunning! Tears to my eyes!
I just loved this piece, utterly brilliant, and I've lit a few 1812's in my time.

That was awesome.
V would be proud.....
So we went from 1812 overture with no cannons to 1812 overture with cannons, then 1812 overture with fireworks. What's next? Nuclear arsenal?
I've thought that maybe a building behind will explode. ;D
@Bingo1059 ..and also. It's because music knows no boundaries. No culture. No affiliation with political standpoint. And no nationality. It should be enjoyed by everyone who shares the same sentiments.
Это было круто! Китайцы молодцы!

masterpiece
Es impresionante!! me encantaria poder ver esto con mis propios ojos!!
awesome!!!

This is NOT about the American War of 1812, nor is it about the Chinese, nor "French Ass Kicking". It is about the defeat of Napoloeon at the hands of the Russians in 1812, due more to the harsh Russian winters than the overmatched Russian army. Do some research.

Didn`t Napoleon and Hitler know that there are winters in Russia? As for French army - they can fight only with bare assed natives in Africa. They capitulated in 10 days in 1940 and are winners in WW2 . Why? Yugoslavs had more rights to be winners than French
@meeethya

Mickey Laszkiewicz No winter approach Russian victory so how the army's leader does it with his tactics and the army does it completing it. Kutusov had to surrender Moscow to Napoleon because he knew that this way Russian army would be save and able to get more power for make Napoleon's army going away from Russia. Otherwise, if Russian army tried with all the powers to not to make surrendering Moscow possible, it could be lost. Yes, Stalin acted vice versa, but he used other opportunities being in the other situation... And the victories of Russians wouldn't be possible without the heroes who defended Russia bravely and selflessly.

not that diminishing racist western bullshit about "General Frost" again... Napoleon took Moscow in fucking SEPTEMBER, and his army was ALREADY decimated to this point. the losses from the winter were on his RETREAT. who the fuck made him to retreat, I wonder?

@Bingo1059 You realize that Tchaikovsky composed this. he was RUSSIAN and composed it for a festival commemorating the 1812 battle between the armies of France and Russia. the Americans have just as much right to use this as the Chinese. in fact, America caused Russia more trouble by freeing Napolean by diverting the British in the war of 1812.
The Gunpowder Treason and Plot, I know of no reason Why Gunpowder Treason Should ever be forgot.
Tears
Magnánimo!!!!
sorprendente en verdad!

And wow
hong kong is a my city...its a great city.
@luisir2 Those are also computer-generated for perfection. I'd say this is done pretty damn well for real-life fireworks set to live music.
single manly tear
@Bingo1059 Thought this was an account of the 1812 battle between France, led by Napoleon, and Russia where the French army of over half a million were successful in sacking Moscow only to be defeated by the cold weather, much to the celebration of the God loving Russians who sees this as a divine intervention.

better with cannons, but still good.
Remind me of V for vendetta
@iter68 you are right, i think the the timing of the fireworks is not march with the music....... those in V for Vendetta is much better.
That was crazily in sync. (Y)
Look at all those V´s :)
"Remember, remember the 4th of June..."
He was Edmond Dantès...
And people are complaining that Eminem's concerts have too many gun sounds!
Just missing the canons now
I doubt if it was real ammunition though.
@rviolinfiddle55 yeah i was kinda thinkin that too

@Bingo1059 Culture is not defined by its national boundary lines. What would you say about native-american culture? The "apaches" or the "tupis" - in South America - had no notion of something as a "nation". Finally, there is much more to culture than music. Actually, the language itself is much more important than music.
I don't think they quite did it justice. Too fast at the end, needs to be more triumphant... but the pyrotechnics were very impressive.
??Its like watching V for Vendetta :) nice
why is it the chinese and japanese are good at music and here in america we get a bunch of damn office workers
@Bingo1059 Cultures influence the type of music. It defines it but it is not the culture itself. If your argument is to be taken, then what you're trying to say is that other cultures have no right to play a certain piece because it's not their culture and that it unsettles people? That the chinese people, despite being in a country that has yet to be in a democracy, cannot be given the right to play this piece just because of that reason?
@Goji73 V for vendetta
Great sound...a lil bouncy...but good
