He's said he flips the phase on the distorted kick - which causes some cancellation with the main kick, yielding a peculiar, somewhat hollow sound.

The Decapitator is great, not much else plug in wise that can do what is does.

Question-at the 4:48 mark, with the akg414's you never said what you set the 414's in. Cardiod, Omni, etc.? I'm going to assume that it's omni though, as if you like the sound of binaural audio, you'd want to go Omni(cant remember the last time I didn't use Omni on drum overheads). Oh wait, it was when I was forced to, and I hated it. Spent a month trying to get it to not sound the way it did. Terrible!

They were Omni yes. I don't think it works for every flavour of sound but it's an interesting option. not long after this I used it in a busy loud rock track with the drummer hitting hard and didn't like it at all. Might have been better in a bigger room but way too much small room choke for my ears.

I stole quite a few things from Tchad as far as mixing is concerned: Sans-Amp (both hardware + plug-ins) Sony Lavalier mics, Soundtoyz Devil-Loc, Sonnox Inflator on the master bus, etc. He‘s s real inspiration, check out the ‚Dark-Mix‘ version of the latest Peter Gabriel album.
