TCE Talks Episode 08, Part 2 - Articulation Techniques, Tongue Stopping and Use Of Air

Hi everyone,
This is Part 2 of my talk about putting together the various aspects of TCE into a complete system. I talk about Bahb's 5 articulations, doodle tonguing, tongue stopping and correct use of air. There's also a bit of commentary about teaching ideas.
Thanks for watching. New episodes weekly!

I'm very much looking forward to your take on the super chops material. For me that is probably the most confusing part of Jerry's pedagogy. I'm also interested in hearing what you have to say about turning on the lips and hope that comes up in the next video.

Looks like it's turning into a series... I've recorded four parts so far and I'm pretty sure I'm barely started! First part out tomorrow. It doesn't answer your question, but I've been meaning to email you about it so I'll do that!

I went decades without even thinking about how to stop tones. About a month ago I saw a vid where Louis Dowdeswell promotes using tongue stops. I found my upper lip gravitating into the mpc, preventing me from playing in the red. I am experiencing dramatic increases in flexibility and range. I would like to try and refine my articulation with TCE. Will check out the 7 Bugles.

I don’t know if Louis talks about touching the lip with the tongue, but that’s how I’d recommend doing it 100%. Tonguing through the teeth has a remarkable effect on a bunch of face/embouchure related parts. Unless you’re going after TCE I think the question for most players isn’t “do you tongue through the?” but “can you tongue through the teeth?”. Let me know if you come across any issues, or breakthroughs!
