TC Electronic Flashback 2 Delay and Looper Pedal - In-Depth Review!

Музыка

The new Flashback 2 serves up a sonic buffet of expressive delay by infusing the pressure sensitive MASH technology with our renowned delay algorithms.
We completely redeveloped our Tape and Analog algorithms from scratch, recreating the tones of old school echoes with unheard realism, including every little eccentric behavior inherent in those legendary designs.
We also squeezed in a shimmering Crystal delay, made with our own polyphonic octave algorithm from Sub 'N' Up into Flashback 2.
And finally, with 3 TonePrint slots in total, you get more flexibility than ever, and all the legendary delay sounds that TC Electronic are famous for.
Express Yourself!:
MASH reacts to the amount of pressure you put on the switch. The harder you press, the more intense the effect.
We made MASH controllable through the free TonePrint Editor which means that, you can assign to any parameter and up to 3 parameters at once.
For each delay preset, MASH will control a different parameter and let you express yourself without having to bend down to turn knobs and without the trouble of getting a dedicated expression pedal.
For example, you can assign MASH to raise the delay time as you press down, subtly increase the delay feedback into full-blown self-oscillation, or gradually add and deepen chorus modulation for out-of-tune flutters.
New Tape and Analog Algorithms:
We seriously improved the Tape and Analog algorithms to make them more realistic than ever, displaying all of the idiosyncratic flutters and warbles reminiscent of the old days.
Twisting the Delay knob while playing will alter the pitch of the repeats and cranking the feedback sends the pedal spinning into self-oscillation ecstasy.
With MASH added to the mix, you no longer have to strain your back to reach down and twist knobs while mid solo. Just set MASH to control the parameter you have in mind and rock!
New Crystal Delay:
The tantalizing Crystal delay takes advantage the same cutting edge polyphonic octave algorithm that made the Sub 'N' Up Octaver a succes.
By shifting the pitch of the delayed signal up an octave through each feedback loop, we've created an immaculate shimmer.
MASHing in this setting sends the delays into self-oscillation, providing you with surges of incandescent tone.

It’s cool that they added a looping function, it would just be a lot cooler if you could actually use the delay and the looper at the same time

I've watched most of the review videos on this pedal and nobody is showing the looping function. I know you're most likely better off with a dedicated looper pedal, but seeing as how it's a part of this pedal, I'm curious how well it works and would've liked to see it.

Can you store any presets or toneprints with this pedal ? I have the Mini, which is great for storing one setting, and having access to tone prints, but for live use I like to have a couple of presets, or at least 2- 3 easily accessible delays. Is that possible with the Flashback 2 ?

Just a heads up for people thinking about buying this pedal. As an owner of the original Flashback, I recently bought the Flashback 2 so that I could make use of the external tap tempo jack. However, I was disappointed to hear that the FB2 did NOT sound as good as the FB1, to the extent that I unfortunately had to return the FB2 for a refund. The FB2 is a tad more open sounding, but the repeats are thinner and just weak sounding compared to the FB1. Also, the FB1 creates a subtle and pleasant pad-like sound when the repeats are turned up high, whereas on the FB2 the repeats just 'thin out' without creating any kind of ambient oscillation. NOTE that I set both pedals up exactly the same within the toneprint editor, and even had confirmation from TC Electronic that the circuit was tweaked for the FB2. I was really gutted about this because I was desperate to have an external tap!

All Expresion pedals on digital pedals seem a bit strange. Older analog effects that use them all had "sweet spots" you just couldn't dial in. but between the precision of digital controls and dynamic tap tempos out now i just dont see the point.with tc at least you can easily set the paramiters. Id still use the tone print to switch to tap tempo though.

@@michivanhalen7086 yes but you have to set it up for that in The tone print app. This serues of pedals is awesome btw. Tone print opens up crazy posibilities. I got a shaker vibrato and it can be so much more than it apears to be.most of the presets are slight variations on the same 3 things but starting from default I made my own tone print that. Gave me the vibrato i bought it for, completely replaced my chorus pedal and i got a great univibe sound as well. Took a few hours of fiddling with everything but it sounds awesome. I bought the flash back 2 hours after i got the shaker. I want to get there pre/amp di but i want to play with it first.
