Wow was listening to this and was shocked when you mentioned baking cakes in Kigali! I read this a long time ago after the potatoe peel society book. Was in a phase of deeper reading lol. I don’t even remember her cakes but aids was rampant and I vividly being in the edge of my seat when she was invited to a female circumcising’ceremony’. My disgust with the father I remember and the bodies covered in lime unburied. I’m still fairly sheltered but reading all this and knowing this woman is pretty solid was pretty memorable. Strong women

Thank you for mentioning Greengage Summer! I somehow lost track of this (wonder how that happened, lol!) and it would be a fantastic book to add to my summer stack for #tbr24in24. I too started reading Diary of a Provincial Lady (2 years ago?) and got distracted with other reads. What I read was fabulous writing! I’ve pulled that one and put it where I can see it. 😁

It sounds like it will be the summer of the greengage. Between that and Provincial Lady I think we both have some good reading ahead of us. Thank you for watching!

When you mentioned that you might read “The Greengage Summer” whilst sitting under your own greengage tree, I almost jumped up off the couch in glee. (Had it not been for the steaming cuppa tea in my hand, that is.)🍵 I’m an “under-a-tree” reader and I’m waiting for our weather to warm up enough to permit this pastime of mine. If you go ahead with that plan, please take a photo of yourself or some video footage, reading beneath the tree.🌳

A great selection for the challenge, Jen. Thanks for telling me about Joan London and Gilgamesh, which I heard about and then lost track of. Thanks for explaining "green gauge " ... reading 📚 under a tree is a marvellous pastime. I hope you will share with us your takes on the Kgale novel...I am intrigued. Thanks again. I look forward to each of your book chats ❤😊

Clara Callan has a very nice audiobook narrated by Cynthia Dale, Jennifer Dale, and Janet Wright. Interesting book, both painful and hopeful story of two sisters.

I have not read Clara Kellan, but is sounds like an old movie I saw about two sisters who share a ratty apartment in NY, one is an author of news stories and the other an actress. Called My Sister Eileen. You might look that up. I did read Peace like a River and it was so different and quite a wallop of a book. So much to it. I would love to discuss it with a book club!😊 Thank you!😊

I will definitely look up that movie - thank you for mentioning it. It might be fun to watch it and compare it to Clara Callan. Now you're making me think I should find someone to buddy read Peace Like A River with so we can discuss it. Thank you so much for watching!

Great selection of books for the year. I just finished 'The Austen Escape' by Katherine Reay - enjoyed it, as I have all of her books. I have those same editions of The Queen and I as well as Diary of a Provincial Lady. I searched and searched for that copy - as it is so beautiful! Currently reading Lilac Girls, not sure what took me so long to pick this one up? have a great weekend! ( among some books! 📚 )😊
