Way to go! You really showed determination to meet that goal and even do your ebooks. I am focusing in 2024 on selective unhauling any books that I don't absolutely love because I have reached the point of having too many now that I moved to a smaller home and now share it with another reader. In the process, I am unhauling into my new Little Free Library. I haven't stopped buying, but for every book I buy, I do unhaul one. As of May 15, I've unhauled 155 of my owned TBR books; some of them I did read as part of the 75 books I have read so far this year. And I pulled out 30 more (so far) to go into my LFL over next month as space opens up in it. I am not counting my owned ebooks in this project nor my nonfiction reference books. It's not that I want a Zero TBR, but that I want to look at the shelves and feel joy. I am having fun as a LFL steward and getting to share my books with neighbors.

Thanks! Your project sounds great as well. I also didn't count any reference books or my husband's books, etc, since those really aren't things I'm planning to read. I did a bunch of unhauling too, both of read and unread books. We actually go through our books each year to do an unhaul of anything we no longer care to keep to make room for our new favorites. We feel the same about wanting to be surrounded by books that make us happy! And I think if your goal is focused on the shelf space you have, not counting ebooks makes total sense.

I'd love to have something like when I have a more permanent place in the future. I personally have sooo much unread books around me in my room, but I like how they constantly remind me that there are new things I've not yet explored.

I think that's exactly the thing, right? You just want to make sure your shelves are bringing you happiness. So if being surrounded by new books to explore is exciting, that's the perfect thing to do. TBR zero was a goal for me, but really doesn't need to be goal for everyone. I hope when you get a more permanent place, you're able to set up your bookshelves just as you like!

I knew you'd achieve this before long as it's something you've greatly wanted for such a long time now. You were making me feel wistful when speaking about your library as it's something I've lacked for so long sadly. At the highest about five or six years ago my TBR was at at least three hundred and now it's dropped to a much nicer forty or so.

Congratulations! In our household, we are in the process of decluttering, so we rarely buy books. I borrow books from our local public library, and I have library cards from three libraries that I can download eBooks from.

I'm so happy for you! I am also aiming for a zero tbr for the exact reasons you mentioned ❤ I also love Marie Kondo, and changed the way I organize what to keep and give away. I am not far from achieving my goal, I have 20 physical books atm and some I consider to be long projects, so in fact only about 8 are actual tbr. I hope to go through them all this year and I am inspired to see you succeeded 😊

Congrats on achieving your goal and have a happy new year, giving us many great recommendations as always. Personally, some years ago i felt overstuffed with all the books i had amassed, so one day i decided enough is enough, i unhauled the whole bulk of them and donated them to an animal shelter that happened to be having their annual bazaar at that moment. Since then I've switched to reading ebooks and nowadays the only physical books i buy are for gifts to friends.

I love that you did that big unhaul and I am the same in unhauling things I don't feel passionate about or have lost interest in. So impressed you achieved this goal and it's super admirable 👏🏾 I am very far off tbr zero and while I did reduce my TBR quite a bit last year it's still a long way to go. I am actually quite close when it comes to my ebook tbr though, as I don't read as much on there.

🏔 Tremendous achievement! I loved hearing your process, minimalism is so generally appealing. I am over here chuckling too, because I did literally the opposite when I bought my place😹 I had always wanted walls of books and not been able to, so when I got my place I started amassing loads of books every major charity sale to build up a library and years before I was able to get in the bulk of the shelves to actually house them entirely. I'm heading more toward curation now it seems like as I do constantly get rid of stuff I didn't love after I read it. I have been thinking of counting where I'm at in unread, but it's definitely hundreds... Maybe you will inspire me, but I don't know if I could ever get to 0!

Meh, I don't know if TBR zero is really a worthwhile goal for everyone. I think for you, it's a celebration of your love for reading to get the books, and a process of discovery to go to the charity sales and try things. That's also just such a perfect way to do things! And if you're curating after you read them and that's leaving you with enough shelf space, you're all good.

Yay~ you inspired me a lot on so many levels and one of them is how you organize your books! But I am no where near to a small tbr lol. But since last year I started to acquire a lot less books especially when I could borrow from the library, and this year I plan to buy even less! Congratulations on 0 TBR Shannon! 🥰

I think I'm going to do a zero-goals year in 2024 to give myself more space, in fact. And glad you're getting good use out of your library too! It really does reduce the need to buy books that you're not sure you want to own anyway.

Wow, that's great! My owned physical TBR is somewhere in the high 50s, haven't done the final year end check yet. A lot of them have been on my shelf quite long, and I find myself reading mostly ebooks and library books...

Exactly! Library books always end up getting priority for me, so I figured I might as well just switch to that entirely since I can get pretty much everything there anyway.

Wow, that is so impressive!! I'm prioritizing getting caught up on my physical tbr this year, but I don't think I'll ever catch up on my kindle books. But also, I get a degree of comfort knowing that I have some emergency reads in my back pocket if I'm ever in an apocalypse situation. 😂

I think physical TBR weighed on me much more than the ebook TBR, so I completely understand! And it is really nice to have good options on hand whenever you want them.

I think this was an awesome project. I have been trying to do something along those lines. Ultimately, I only want to own books that I love and want to read over and over again.

What a great achievement! Congrats! I listen to a lot of audiobooks so if there is one that I really liked I would then buy the physical copy for my collections. I remember when I started booktube I had one shelf of books. Now I have three! But I go through them regularly and remove books that I lost interest in or I wouldn't reread. (m)

I need to do a TBR Zero project. It will take a while! I have decided not to do a book challenge with specific prompts next year, because I can't seem to read the many physical and e-books that I own. I would also like to get to the point of reading more library books.

@@joycejarrard6958 It took me quite a few years to get to TBR zero - it's a big project! I think it's hard to balance all the reading projects and library books you want to read and also get to all your owned books, so it makes sense to focus on owned books for a bit if you want to bring your TBR down. It's been really nice to be at TBR zero this year since now I feel completely free to borrow whatever I want from the library.

Congratulations!! I just went through and logged all my owned books, and I have 86 to read (42 physical, 44 ebooks), which feels very overwhelming to me. I bought a lot of books this year and idk why since I primarily read through the library and prefer audiobooks anyway. So this year and the next I'm planning on not buying any more books and focusing on reading what I own so I can get to TBR zero as well! I also love the feeling of looking at my shelves and loving all the books there. :) I also have a great library system where I live so I'd rather read books from there first, and only buy books that I can't get through the library (like self-published books). A good number of the books I bought this year are not available from the library, so I didn't do too bad at least.

@@ThatsSoPoeyes! I was thinking about that too. I bought a book for a reading challenge last year that I read immediately after receiving, and that was such a nice feeling! It makes the book purchase feel more exciting and worthwhile. So I hope to do that in the future as well.
