wow, I didnt expect this comment to be noticed by my co-swifties. It just melts my heart to see her past collaborators supporting her journey in owning her songs, masters. I just adore and admire them by doing that.

sure we don't want songs like this one to be underrrated, but some masterpieces are like a secret escape. Something not everyone knows about and you feel proud of your own little world with hidden gems!

It feels selfish to me to feel like that lol, but what I do think is that it's just not for everyone. 10 people 100 different tastes. But I want people that would like this to know about it so they can enjoy it as well and support or know about Taylor's gems❤️.

I like how their levels in the chorus are subtly louder based on who sang the verse before, it gives a feeling of the going back and forth as they struggle to communicate

Saaame, but i feel like i kno my reason. I liked the old version cuz i was listening to it as an audience hearing a beautiful yet sad story from taylor and admired her talent and the way she expressed it. It was beautiful in a way that how i got to listen to this story. But now, a decade later, it got more personal. I now know that how it feels to ask someone the last time, the very last time to ask someone to be top of their list. I now realized some things should be the last time no matter how i hoped it was otherwise. Listening to this album and this song is like a new experience once again. Sorry for leaving an essay just wanted to let u know i feel the same wayy here :)))

I must admit, the musical arrangement here slays me most. It's dramatic without being cheesey, floats to the top where it needs to without overpowering, and the string section is emotional, without being predictable. All the way, outstanding composition.

Gary fits this song phenomenally. His tone and pitch for that first verse is suited so perfectly to the character, and makes the desperation and loneliness really come to life.

The candle flickering for last time song is just beauty.

This was my favourite song on the original "Red" album (and still is on Taylor's Version) and I feel the song never got the recognition it deserves! Hopefully it will on this beautiful version. Very very happy Gary rerecorded as I was worried he may not have and I don't feel like anyone else could replace Gary with this song truly.

@@ecstaticoranges3497 Sure! So basically Taylor was signed under a label called Big Machine Records, and they essentially owned all of her music, which she wanted to own. So she asked them if she could buy it from them and they basically wouldn't let her buy it. So she is in the process of re-recording all of her albums - in which she does own and profit from, so anytime you see (Taylor's Version) that is just saying that it is something that she owns and not something the other company owns.

I really hope this time around Red wins a Grammy, it boggles my mind that it didn't win it all those years ago. Every song on Red sounds like a masterpiece, and that rarely happens to any artist but it seems like a trend for Taylor's work ❤ I'm so happy that she finally owns Red.

This song is literally a prelude to Exile and I love it. I just wish it hadn't taken so long for me to get into it.

Another hidden gem from red

I love they keep singing "this is the last time" over and over again. Clearly it isn't the last. :(

This is an underrated gem, I mean those harmonies though!!! And the lyrics, everything is on point. Chefs kiss.

It's actually better for Taylor to re record her songs for people like me who's just discovering these gems now.

IT HURTS ME SO MUCH THAT THIS IS SO FREAKING UNDERRATED LIKE WHY DO PEOPLE NOT NOTICE THIS MASTERPIECE

This is the type of song that constantly reminded me of how I gave my time, attention, and support to a person but after taking everything they would just walk away and give it to someone else.

These songs are notoriously different from the original version, taylor silenced all the radios in the United States that were not going to support it because they sounded the same original.

I'm sitting here comparing old and new for every song and yes. THey are different. Her voice is muuuch older and she's culled a lot of the backup vocals and other 'noise' in a lot of the songs. It really doesn't work for some songs. And her voice really does sound so much better inthe older ones where she's singing about teenage issues and IS a teenager LOL To compare the 2 voices now its like listening to a girl and a woman. Chalk and cheese.
