This song is like reputation, the short version.

I think the reason we as her fans love this song is because she is talking about everything that happened from 2016 and and joe ( Reputation Album), but instead of going in deeper like songs before, she says long story short because she knows that all of us who went through that hell with her( And it truly was hell for her) know what she is talking about. All the "Reputation" references. She really was in the alley surrounded on all sides. Like now she is throwing the sword in the bushes ( in reputation: I bury hatchets but I keep maps of where i put ´em) and also "Getaway car references . It is sort of like she is putting a bow on that whole timeline and when she says long story short (like we don´t need to get in to it) " And we live in peace but if someone comes at us this time i´m ready" and " Long story short it was a bad time...Long story short I survived" it is a great release for all of us. I hope that makes sence to those who feel the same way.... But I guess that is the deeper emotional layer that only fans who know the whole story would understand.

i´m obsessed with the bridge "past me i want to tell you not to get lost in these petty things, your nemesis would defeat themselves before you even get a chance to swing" i feel like we would all want to tell that to our past selves sometimes we get to caught up in the drama with bad people

I love this one so much, I was looking forward to hearing your reaction! I was never really a Taylor fan pre Folklore but these two recent albums really sold me to her, she's a lyrical genius!

Welcome to the world of Taylor, you really should give her lesser-known songs from her previous albums, I am pretty sure you will find some gems in every single album. I also, love this song.

“actually, I always thought I must look better in the rearview” is one of my favorite lyrics from taylor because I think it wraps up her entire discography so well. She mentions rearview windows a few times in her songs, one of which being in White Horse (off fearless) where she says “there in my rearview mirror disappearing now”. Especially considering how often she uses cars and driving as metaphors or motifs, I think it’s beautiful. The idea of looking better in the rearview has a couple meanings to me. The more obvious, of being left often and having so many breakup experiences. The second one makes me think of her introduction to Death By a Thousand Cuts in her tiny desk performance. she talks about being scared of falling in love because she’d never be able to write breakup songs again, which have been a staple of her career for 15 years now. The idea of looking better in the rearview symbolizes how she thinks fans and listeners will only like her when she’s struggling in love, rather than truly fallen in love. I think those fears have been proven wrong through Lover, folklore, and evermore, in which she’s able to not only write about true love, but other non-romantic topics, and fictional breakup songs.

@@JuliaAlves-vk7xj if i’m not wrong dbatc,the archer and cornelia street are his favorites,he did not hate it but you know he thinks that her songwriting is incredible to come up with songs like i think he knows or paper rings however he actually enjoyed london boy

this song is so clever. Tells the story about 2016 (as does evermore). The first verse she is surrounded in an alley, sees Joe walking by, and like she's ever known before she'll walk in those shoes until her high heels break. Second verse, she throws down her weapons and knocks on his door. Third verse, tells herself to put down her weapons (as she does in verse 2) and to notice that guy walking by (as she goes and knocks on his door), and she now changed the lyrics to she'll walk in the shoes forever. Basically, verse 3 is telling her what to do in verse 1. I love it. Evermore is folklore's EXPERIMENTAL sister album. they are in the same forest, but evermore is very much more diverse, different sounds, pushes it more so than folklore, and mixes up genres from folk, pop, to country all in one album. IMO, evermore has better storytelling than folklore. About 1/3 the songs on folklore and evermore are personal (directly or indirectly). Folklore: my tears ricochet, epiphany, peace, invisible string, mad woman, the lakes, hoax. Evermore: happiness, coney island, evermore, long story short, marjorie, closure, its time to go. IMO.

This is in my top 5 from the two albums haha! I just think it’s really fun to sing along with :) I agree the vibe is a bit different, but I also felt like I needed an upbeat pick me up after cowboy like me and this was it! Love your reactions & you’re healing up great!
