In the long pond studio sessions, Aaron Dessner says that when Taylor sent these lyrics to him, he thought immediately of his own experience of living with depression. This is how I've always interpreted it as well. From my perspective, when you're prone to depression, it makes you feel guilty when another unexpected episode comes, and your partner has to go through this with you. It was heartbreaking for my partner to see me in my suicidal state and for me to see him so helplesss. And although I'm much better now, we're both aware that I might go back to those thoughts if I neglect my mental wellbeing= 'the rain will always come when you're standing with me'. So, although I know that Taylor wrote this song about her not being able to give her partner peace due to her fame and everything that comes with it, I appreciate that the lyrics are open enough for me to interpret it through my own experience. It only shows that despite that many songs being written about love, there is still a lot to explore within this topic. I'm sure there are other songs like 'peace' but they're not as prevalent or easy to find as other love songs that tackle other struggles in relationships. Sorry for this essay 😅

I love this song. Its , i guess one of the only personal songs on folklore. Also I loved how you said peace>>>happiness. Never thought about that .

Hard to know, as the kind of listener I am, if the lyrics are about a story she is just telling or one that is more personal. If I imagined it were more personal, I might have connected the dots to it being more about her life. Thank you! I think that is one of the most common misunderstandings out there. Naturally, I think people end up chasing the wrong things due to this misunderstanding of happiness.

Yes, it's about how her life and everything around it would affect her lover. And she actually has a song about it but that she wrote years ago (when the relationship was just starting) it's called 'dancing with our hands tied' but it's a more pop kinda song so idk if you'd like it. But still I find really interesting to parallel the way she describes the same situation and feeling in different stages of the relationship. To dance with the hands tied in the song has a meaning of just trying to enjoy the love they were building in spite of whatever other people were doing to harm them. But now in peace, she loves him so much and so deep, that she's worried if being with her it's worth all that and if he's sure to do it.

I fall asleep to this song alot: the main melody just seems like a gentle lullaby. It is kind of peaceful. I see that steady pace in the background as this constant beat that toes the line of being too fast and disruptive as the further emphasize the point of the song: my life is chaotic and will prevent yours from ever being truly peaceful. Is that ok? Will u brave this storm with me?

When you saw the storm clouds did you realize the song called Peace wasn't going to be about Peace but about not being able to give Peace? Its about how she could never give her boyfriend the peace and the normalcy that they both want, because she is who she is and she can never live a normal life. She wants it and wants to give it to him, but there is only so much she can control. Someone is always going to write some tabloid, or media will attack her. So she is asking if everything else that I can give you... is it enough to make up for the fact that if he's with her, they will never live that normal life. there will always be stalkers, media scrutiny, crazy fans, etc. There is always going to be something, so is her love enough to make up for it.

Wow! Yeah this feels like another example of me not taking Taylor literally enough. Should I start trying to? I'm not really used to taking her lyrics as something so first person and literal or true to her own life. Good insight, it makes perfect sense. Appreciate your feedback, as always!

@@JSteezy Up until Folklore, I would say most of her lyrics were almost entirely autobiographical. She is trying to get away from that, and folklore and evermore have done that but there are still a few personal songs and this is one of them that is very personal.

It's about Joe Alwyn and they wrote the songs Exile and Betty on Folklore Champagne Problems, Coney Island and Evermore on Evermore CD Alwyn has stated that he finds it flattering that Swift write songs about me He has been referred to in much of swift's recent music, most notably on her albums 2017 Reputation 2019 Lover 2020 Folklore & Evermore She confirmed that William Bowery is actually him. He chose that name so nobody would know it was him

yeah I loveeeeee this song, sonically as well but also just lyrically it's beautiful (i relate a lot as someone with mental health issues and anxiety etc) it really is like a poem and i think the simplicity of the instrumental compliments that and makes her vocal shine too, but yeah was cool to hear your thoughts can't wait for more reactions from this and evermore x
